As someone who has been involved with our MB since 2012, the donation of the power bank to them is fantastic. Unless someone has ever been involved, they have no idea how hard the activity actually is. Anything that can help make it easier for the kids to improve is awesome. And there is never enough money in the budget, so thank you Cap, that is a huge and awesome thing you're doing.
I was a proud band parent from 2005 to 2009. I agree it is a lot of logistical work and never enough money. Just hauling the instruments around and props took three pickups with trailers every away football game. Then there were the competitions. Those band kids worked hard and so did the parents…Kudos to Captain Kleeman for the donation!

Love the work bench for the portable bandsaw right next to the vice. That's the universal bench/cleaner model, awesome😮. I only wish with my 18yr old son that I had as much working space as you Mike.
I bought my LED shop lights from Harbor Freight. They daisy chain as well. I really like them. Plus they come with chains so you can hang them at the correct height.
Mike! Good for you for donating that power bank! 👍 I have the exact same lights in my shop, they don't look like they put off much, but once they are all up it is quite bright. A LOT of people order them after seeing them in my shop. They are also quite handy as under hood/cabinet/shelf lighting.. have a great one!!
Hi Mike. Nice thing to do, to donate the Bluetti to the marching band. Good thing its "portable", otherwise it might be too hard to tote with them when they are marching! Old bed rails are made from a decent quality steel and suitable for many projects. I've made a bunch of roll-around dollies using them for framing. Plus, you can often find them for free.
I love the 'free solar lanel rails'! As someone who picks scrap metal up from time to time, I can't begin to tell you how many dozens & dozens of bed rails I've picked up on curbs all over the place, probably 100 plus sets if not more. I keep some of them for various angle iron fabrication uses, and add some to the scrap pile going to the scrap yard for money. Its crazy how many bed frames get thrown away on a regular basis. Its good angle iron for light duty stuff especially if you have a cheap welder to glue them together.👍🏻👌🏻🛠️🔧🦺⚡🔋🔌 ✊🏻🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲✊🏻
Hi Mike if you use a shop vacuum on one side of the conduit and some string on the other it should suck the string to the other side. This might help you on other projects.
I installed 4 bars of 220V LED lights in our 2 shops/garages. Everything works fine until you 10ft up in the roof on a wonky ladder. Had my heart reset by 220V a few times.
Captain, 1. I use the LED lights from Harbor Freight. They can daisy chain and are super bright at around $50 each. 2. Marching Bands are one of the most overlooked sports activities in school. Thank you for supporting them. 3.

You need six to eight panels a minimum. In the UK we run houses totally on solar and sell spare electricity to the grid. The UK is farther north than any of the USA.
My parents bought a house and it had two barns on the property and the far barn had a long three wire the kind that you wire a house running from it to a little A frame up on the hill about 150 yards in the ground!
For those LED link together lights be sure to pay attention to the lumens and the color temperature. Not all are created equal. I personally prefer a cool white light (higher color temp) and for lumens the higher the better because your ceiling is fairly tall.
I installed five Harbor Freight, BRAUN 5500 Lumen, 4 ft. Linkable LED Hanging Shop Lights in my attic and they are pretty impressive. At $22.99 a piece they are inexpensive. They have a 3 prong standard 5' powercord and use 55 watts each.
Those are the same ones I bought for my new garage. I was dissappointed as well and reordered the 8' 100w units - 10 pack. 5 of them light up my 22x30 garage great! You can use the rest at the world headquarters basement.

Cap’n here’s a bit of trivial information for ya… The steel used in bed rails is unique… it’s classified as ‘Re-Rolled Rail Steel’. What makes it unique is its origin and properties. Back in the late 18th and early 19th century American Steel Factories started popping up all over the place (wanna know where… just go to the Rust Belt). American infrastructure demanded billions of tons of structural, cast and rolled steel. Chief among them was Railroad Rails. Every steel mill had its own recipe for making them… so, there was a huge variation in the purity and properties of from one manufacturer to another. And also from one rail to the next. It caused countless problems when building tracks and also with durability and failure of the rails themselves. As a result, there eventually became a huge supply of old rails lying around. These could not easily be melted down and recycled. They were too awkward to fit into smelters and besides… their contents varied all over the place. That meant it was difficult to use them to make steel of reliable tensile, chemistry and malleability. One company came up with the idea of cutting them into three parts… the cap, the web and the foot. They then placed each part into a separate furnace and heated it. Once it was hot enough, it was sent through a series of rollers that shaped it into various configurations. There were three that became ubiquitous. 1 - Sign post - used for every stop sign in the country! 2 - T-post - enough said. 3 - Angle Iron - not good for fabrication or structural use (too brittle and ranged from hard to soft).. but perfect for bed rails! And, best of all… it was cheap!!! And that Cap’n is why bed rails are plentiful and cheap! Enough of the lesson about that obscure fact…. I like where you are headed with your own private Power Grid!
Oh my god, this explains why when I cut up a bunch of bed rails during for project not long ago, one of them absolutely cleaned the teeth off my dry cut saw blade, it was like hardened tool steel.
@ yup… have you ever been driving a T-post and had the top of it shatter when the driver hits it??? Same steel! LOL I worked 22 years for a company who bought a small rail steel rolling mill operation. My employer company was the world’s largest manufacturer of bed rails and bed frames. We installed bullet proof glass around the stamping presses that trimmed and punched holes in the rails. When you got a brittle rail, it sounded like shrapnel flying!

In the Netherlands we use PVC tubing/piping you can bend it by hand and it's not conductive.... In this case we would pull a ymvk though it with open bends. 5/8 or 9/16 in metric 16 or 19 millimeters.
@Captain Kleeman - The next time you have the boom lift/man lift around and 2 hours to spare at the same time, you should trim the trees around your garage/barn. I saw all the tree shadows on the solar panels while you where working and figured I'd tell you since your reading the comments again. Good luck and God Bless you and your family.
I would like to add that a 10% shade coverage on your panels will drop your power output by 50% so if you're able to keep them out of the shade... probably for the best. Keep up the great work.
Just shows how nice a guy you are, that gesture is really going not help the community buts the kids as well. Problem with lighting is not only the amount of wattage used to run them, but what sort of light you get as well. Mines only a small workshop, but I've got a day light led bar really cheers me up when I'm out there in the winter. Who doesn't like a metal metal roof, for safety purposes you want to place one of the small trampolines. Might help with your gymnastic capabilities. 🤣👍
I am surprised the lights didn't work for you. I have 8 strips in my 900 sq foot garage and am very happy with the light. Never felt the need for more including task lights on bench
Depending on the jurisdiction He is in it may or may not be a code violation for NMC cable to be in conduit. Except to protect it where it might get damaged from activity around its location.
when you said don't run your tape into your electric panel it reminded me of the time 1 of the service guys at our shop did just that 480 volts will vaporize 24 inches of it in millisec
I dont know if you know it but with solar panels on a metal roof you should ground the roof . not far from us a barn burnt down because a panel shorted out
I find that those stick lights are great at about 3 ft. I mean 3ft from what you're wanting to see. So I use them for work bench lights and countertop lights. They tuck up under shelves and cabinets very well and hide great. Best application I found for those.
Mike I started off with those low power 4 foot LEDs too, I still use em on desk top spaces, but for the shop I switched to these 8 foot bad boys. Use em in the woodshop and in the mechanic shop. (10-Pack) 8ft LED Shop Light Fixture, 120W 19000LM 6000K, Cold White, V Shape, Clear Cover, Hight Output, Linkable Shop Lights, T8 LED Tube Lights, LED Shop Lights for Garage 8 Foot with Plug
Hi Mike , if i might suggest checking into some 12v auto led flood lighting . I got some cheap ones from harbor freight. They provide great lighting i believe they are 4-5 thousand lumens each . Low draw for lots of light cheap. I believe you said you have 12v supply , i use a small dc converter. Hope it may help and cheap for you to try !! Bless you and your family !!! And your donation to the band was a great thing buddy 👍
the hotter the panels get the less efficient they become your better off with a larger air gap between the panel and roof you can just look up (heat and solar panel efficiency)
great video Mike, your generosity will be appreciated for years to come, and you know what they say what goes around comes around, thanks for sharing your good fortune and your great videos 👍👍👍👍👍
I used 4' 4500 lumen led strip lights from Menards 2-pack for $14 in my garage. They work fine. But, for my barn shop, I used Onforu 60W 6000lm outdoor floods. @ $35 on the jungle site. They light uo the shop like daylight!!
Rural King 4' LED Shop Light, 6000 Lumens - SL-006BMCL-50 for $20. I've tried different lights and these were the brightest by far and they have been lasting for the several years that I have had them.
"Internet advice," kind of similar to that advice you can get while sitting at the little breakfast place at 5 a.m., where some groggy people are having coffee before work. Some good advice, some bad advice, and some of those folks giving advice are still dreaming. Thanks for the video (because I can drink coffee at the house and watch advice get tested), and take care.
I was wondering how this was all working out in reality. That's awesome that it's useful and good on you for donating to the marching band. I have those daisy-chain lights, but I'm using them for work bench lighting. They seem great for that but I have bigger ones for lighting the whole shop.
I put them in my wash sewing room and it goes, you know, she's got six windows, but it's still, it makes it brighter and all get out in there for a little bit of money
I have used lights in series that we got from Rural King and they have worked well. At the time we got a deal at $25 a piece and I am sure they were bigger and brighter than the ones you are currently using. You might check them out. I don't remember the lumens, but I think they would do the trick if you can find them. Actually, I just looked at the website and the first one up was a linkable shop light 45" long and 10,000 lumens for $24.99!
Mike-Mike! You have two RUclipsrs that have already installed shop lights, Matt from Deisel Creek and Clint from C&C. It's time to rewatch their episodes and listen to them . I can see from the progress on the RUclips yatche, retirement is a long long way off. By now, you should be building your second one to increase your retirement funds. 😁😁
@@CaptainKleeman 14 Years multiple by 14 weekends between the summer holidays, multiplied by days of rental equals a nice nest egg of retirement money, just saying! 😁😁
I'm looking to get another solar generator. Might try the ole Bluetti this round. If I ever do the round for sure. I saw a guy use the Harbor freight panels. They worked better than the increased prices ones! Nice setup.

I just ran my romex alone the walls and stapled it every so often . might be against code but works
Thanks for sharing how you set up solar panel and hook them up. Nice of you to think about High School Band. I volunteered for choir trips.
👍🏻👍🏻because one is never enough 🤛🏻🤛🏻
Make sure your filming so the deductible is covered!😸
🤣
Mike I started off with those low power 4 foot LEDs too, I still use em on desk top spaces, but for the shop I switched to these 8 foot bad boys. Use em in the woodshop and in the mechanic shop. (10-Pack) 8ft LED Shop Light Fixture, 120W 19000LM 6000K, Cold White, V Shape, Clear Cover, Hight Output, Linkable Shop Lights, T8 LED Tube Lights, LED Shop Lights for Garage 8 Foot with Plug
Keep your cables up off the roof and tidy. Otherwise they'll catch a ton of leaves and you don't want that. :) Good video.
Fair point
I would love to do this as well. Just so expensive still
Yeah, if I was already on grid power, it wouldn't make sense. But having to pay for something either way, it seems to work out
Hi Mike , if i might suggest checking into some 12v auto led flood lighting .
Old bed rails what great idea! My kids would get so mad at me for picking the road side.oh well good stuff!! Mike from Peabody,Massachusetts 24:21
My harbor freight lights work great and theÿ are low cost
That is such a great idea to donate that to the marching band! That is awesome! Your such a good man! Much love and respect from Henderson Ga USA
the hotter the panels get the less efficient they become your better off with a larger air gap between the panel and roof you can just look up (heat and solar panel efficiency)
great video Mike, your generosity will be appreciated for years to come, and you know what they say what goes around comes around, thanks for sharing your good fortune and your great videos 👍👍👍👍👍
Captain Kleeman I'm like you , take all the scrap metal people offer . 😊
That's right!
My only critique would be is, you need to put a cover on that outlet. Better safe than sorry, especially with little ones around.
I put them in my wash sewing room and it goes, you know, she's got six windows, but it's still, it makes it brighter and all get out in there for a little bit of money
Keep an eye on the shading. Depending on the control system it could lose you power.
That's a good price!
9:20 think its going to rain ?
Mike, solar is only needed for off-grid, even then only if hydro electric isn't viable.
BUT, it sure does reduce the monthly power bill.
good show, capt!👌
Thanks!
harbor freight 48" led shop lights $20 ea.
@@rons3103 well I'm not pension eligible for another 14 years. So looks like we're right on schedule.
@@CaptainKleeman Hyperlite are what Clint used.
Nice setup.
Thanks!
