Balto vs History (Movie Review)

- Here’s a look at how far the movie Balto takes the “Based on a True Story” premise, as I compare the events in the film to the original 1925 Race of Mercy. This is my very first movie review and it took a heck of a lot more work than I thought, but I certainly don’t regret it. It may not look like it but I did a lot of research to put this together. I only wish I had more time to elaborate on some of the events, but if you want to know more check out some of the links below or, better yet, give the books listed a read!
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch! It means so much to me!
In loving memory of James Horner (1953 - 2015). You graced the world with your amazing music and you left us far too soon.
As this is a review, it is a form of criticism and interspersed usage of footage from the original film should be considered fair use. Nevertheless, I give all credit to the film’s original owners and distributors (Amblination (A subsidiary of Amblin Entertainment) and Universal Pictures) - No copyright infringement intended.

There are still a lot of “academic remnants” on this site, as it was started out as an assignment for a college class, so I am still in the process of cleaning it up. “togo didn’t live for running , togo lived for his owner”😢😢
Thank you Balto and Togo, those children would have been lost without you 2
It's sad that 'Balto' got overshadowed by 'Toy Story' and Ablimation was shut down.
Oh sadness :(
Lone Wolf yeah
fire foxx Ik I could never get tired of Bolto and May Bolto and Togo for ever be at peace for they will always be remembered as great heros
+fire foxx You shut your mouth right now! Without Toy Story, we may have never (or perhaps it would have taken more time) had the advent of CGI.Toy Story was a genuinely good story. I agree Balto is good, and I feel bad that the animation company was shut down, but that doesn't mean Toy Story was worse or terrible.
Agreed!
Thank you for mentioning Togo!
Absolutely, thank you!
Of course! Togo was amazing! ^_^
+David Moeller can you please have a movie review on Balto 2? Thank you!
Thank you so much indeed ! Togo never got the credit he really deserved !
I will be reviewing both Balto sequels
Who’s here in 2019 after seeing Disney+ Togo? So happy he has his own movie!!
Togo deserved that.... Finally, he got the great one.......
Soo which story is real? Why are they similar? Why
I figured it out
"Togo" was a fantastic movie. Great action, great acting, great visuals, great emotion. And, obviously, it sets history straight.
Jon Dez happy you did!! Sorry I didn’t reply sooner 😅
Steele is the dog version of Scar
The voice of Steele (Jim Cummings) was also Scar's singing voice in the Lion King
David Moeller Ah ya see I knew it
Man, I've thought the same thing since I saw Balto as a kid!
Nah, he's more like a dog version Gaston. ^_^
I thought he was the dog version of Kanye West.
And finally... Togo will get the recognition he deserves.
The "Togo"movie is fantastic.
almost 100 yrs later!
“Togo’s story alone is enough to carry a movie”
Disney+: don’t worry, we got you covered
I would love love love to hear your thoughts of the Togo movie!
Perhaps I should make a review of it
Togo is the real hero but doesn't get remembered
ErinThe Erin
an Unsung Hero
erriiinnn who’s togo
Actually I read a book that talk about Togo although it was shortly after seeing Balto
who is togo??
now i know
Wait wasn't the white wolf his mother ???
yeah, i think her name was anui or something
Yes the white wolf was he's mother but i don't know her name
Yeah, but now with the history of Balto hes actually not a wolf.
Yes I know cause he told us all in the video
The director made a statement that there is no canon justification to who the white wolf is in the story. It could be a figment of Balto's inner spirit, it could be his mother coming to redirect his motives, or it could be hallucinations from his fall that ultimately spark his motivation.
It's sad that this event was overlooked it's so sad it's one of my favorite historical events in life
Captin Quark same here
Same
Bolton & Togo we’re both amazing dogs and the mission wouldn’t have been possible without them.
I wanna make a remake of balto but with Togo
It would then be a dramatic story not only about the harsh conditions of th journey, but how it effected the friendship between Togo and Balto and the rest of the team
Wellington Annex I'm really thinking about writing a fanfic with Togo in it
Wellington Annex Who is Togo?😂
Yeah
@@lunestrex Togo was a sled dog that crossed the dangerous area over the medicine for the people of Nome. Balto started the race, and after Togo had got it, Balto finished too. They both were heroes
Togo is the real hero, and finally has his own movie which was really well done.
Amazing review, you did a fantastic job, and I hope you've reviewed more movies since Balto. I love your animated wolf character, it was adorable watching you wave goodbye and dig. I agree completely with everything you said and my own research over the decades since Balto confirmed the same things. If you or anyone else is interested, Disney+ has a movie called Togo out now, I saw it when it was just released and it's amazing, staring Willem Defoe as Leonhard Seppala, and tells everything you mentioned. I never knew Gunner Kaasaan drove past his relay man and fought through all that weather, amazing.
R.I.P BALTO AND TOGO
+BALTO Pasquale Poor puppies...
There were two lead dogs on Balto's team... Balto and another dog named Fox. They thought the public would think of him as a real Fox... So only Balto would be mentioned for his work.
I named one of my plush wolves after him as well, so i wont judge
so did I xD
Lol, i guess we all have XD
I appreciate that!
illy Wolf: Who Hasn't?
illy Wolf I made a character who is his sister, don't judge me! Also, I was named after Jenna in the movie.
I like both Balto and Togo, for me they're both heroes as well as all the dogs who took part in the serum run during the diptheria outbreak in Alaska.
HOW CAN THIS ONLY HAVE 901 VIEWS
Now it has over 9000
Oh happiness ^^
That random white wolf is his mother. This is mentioned in the film but boris mentioned a dog can't do it alone but maybe a wolf can! Then when Balto fell of the cliff he found his mother and she tries to show him if it wasn't for the wolf part of you you would never make it! Balto realises his mother is right then they howl and Balto makes it!!
That's when he realised the wolf was his strong point !
14:54 I got chills at this part, I like how the epic music from the white wolf scene was queued up perfectly when you started talking about Togo. Nice commentary and music on Togo's dedication I loved it.
Who else thinks that Disney should have a movie about Togo. "Togo The Wonder Dog"
They are making one! :D
@@kalitheorcatrainer3224 it looks freaking amazing!
And now Disney made one showing tomorrow at Disney+
Can confirm they did an amazing job on Togo
Crazy Bc now they do and it’s amazing
I got my name from the movie Balto.
That's really awesome! ^_^
Nice one my dog is also called Jenna
My dog is named Aleu (from balto 2)
My wolf/dog is Tinnos from Tomb Raider 3
@@AyOoDaLoBo33 did you played that game? I'm playng it with my parents
Gunnar Kaasen was my great-grandfathers brother
Oh wow! That's awesome! :D I am sorry that I didn't try to pronounce the last name, I am sure I'd've butchered it. It must be amazing to have such a legacy in your family ^_^
David Moeller No worries c: Nice video by the way!
Thank you very much!
Charlotte Kaasen he and balto are true heroes
Wow.... wow
Now we all know. Its togo not balto who saved the run. Thanks togo 😐
They are all heroes Togo and Balto.
Just finished watching “Togo” on Disney Plus and came to this video......anyone else?
Yep! Great movie!
"the dogs did not really talk" (it was this moment i subbed)
That makes my day!
I believe it was a team effort all the dogs are heroes
I never TRULY, even as a kid thought Steel was a villein. and I love the bear. I wouldn't bear the thought of them taking them out of the movie.
this is still my favorite movie
If anyone is in December 2019 do you know that Disney was this new app called Disney+ and they're doing this movie but it's with Togo and it comes out December 20!!
And its a great movie. This is coming from a guy that loves scifi, superhero movies and action movies. Anyone who subscribes to Disney+ should see "Togo".
Thud Thud if only I could watch it!! I hear it good but I don’t have Disney plus. Glad other people are enjoying it tho
I came here specifically for Togo and you delivered. I’m glad he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves. Thank you!
Thanks man for mentioning togo. Youre a hero too.
Aww thanks!
But Balto had never lead a dog sled before, and he still managed to lead the team through a 80m/s blizzard, and managed to navigate!
Wilhelm Stenvall I agree with you
Yes, exactly! I hate to see people hating on Balto just because Togo did most of the run. They both deserve recognition!
I never knew Togo even existed. Thank you.
the Balto movies are on my top favorite movies list, though i agree that the polar bears are quite annoying
Dylan Clarke My favorite was Robin Hood.
Watch the movie togo or watch till the end of this video cause togo is the real hero
21:08 Random wolf?! THAT'S HIS MOTHER!!!
yep
It wasn't specifically stated that the wolf in this movie was Balto's mother. The sequel has a very similar looking wolf who is said to be his mother and she may be the same wolf that was in the first one. However, if we're just looking at the original movie on it's own, that wolf is just random.
The white wolf was asked to Simon Well the director of Balto (the first one) and Simon's reply:
"Whether the White Wolf is Balto's father or some kind of ephemeral Spirit of the Wolf is deliberately unstated. The White Wolf Sequence is still my favorite part of the movie, and James Horner's extraordinary score that accompanies it still raises the hairs on the back of my neck.
We wanted to keep it mystical and vague - is this a real event or is it some kind of hallucination that Balto is experiencing? All of these were reasons to not have the White Wolf speak or in any way explain himself. Perhaps the Wolf is a manifestation of Balto's inner voice, telling him to take ownership and use that part of him that he has always been ashamed of - certainly that is the message Balto takes from the encounter, real or not.
(And by the way, if it was really his dad why didn't the old man help him drag the antitoxin up the cliff?)"
Nitro Zeus To answer your last question, the parents are probably dead
Very nice review! Thanks for linking me, sorry took me a bit to getting around to watching. The facts about the true story were great. As much as I enjoyed the film, I agree it would have been amazing to actually see something more historically accurate.
+Mithmëoi Art Thank you very much! ^^ And no worries, I am honored you would take the time to watch it! :D
Shouldn't a dog be able to smell his own scent on the right trees separately from the other dog's scent? You can't fool a dog's nose
Very valid point! ^^
Oh boy, I see the World Trade Center in the background...
Let’s appreciate the fact he still comes back to like the comments
😁
Hope they make another movie, about the friendship of balto and togo
Not only Balto.. Togo also is one of them...
also balto wasn't even the sole leader on his team, he was a double leader with a dog named fox, who you can see in photo's directly after the run. most retellings either say fox refused to move or gunner never took him neither is true. the team was made up of 12 dogs this mean you have an even 2 dogs in each position.
They finally did justice to Togo and I am happy I missed this movie watched Togo first and then saw balto and your video I am thankful mate
Balto one of the best and underrated movies.
Actually Steele might be fictional... but he wasn't completely... there was a dog like Steele during the time, but wasn't big... 😁 search it up
Who's here actually running dogs afther watching balto and togo in 2020
I had this junket webkinz stuffed animal I named balto and it was my favorite thing in the whole world and wouldn’t go anywhere without him....
I still have it
Great video! This review had everything! It was right on point, it was funny, and you made it so awesome to watch!
Aww thank you so much! I put a lot of research and effort into making this. I am so glad you enjoyed it! ^_^
Jarrett Winstead its cool I'm a fan of balto
David Moeller I'm a fan of balto you're cool
... Because my creative writing side is too strong, I whipped up a scenario where Togo's the paragon character to act as the counter to Steele. The noble, heroic dog who was probably the only one who immediately believes or trusts Balto. Make him a Good Boy, basically.
She was keeping him warm when she went on top of him because he was in the freezing cold water !!!
I should let you know that most sledders would buy dogs from various Native American groups. They weren't against letting their dogs to interbreed with wolves. Many mushers would get dogs that were mixed UNKNOWINGLY.
I know this because here in Canada we still use sled dogs and wolfdogs aren't honestly believed to be not useful in sledding.
Though to be fair Canadian arctic wolves are more likely to kill than mate with a dog (which they suggest in Balto, but mating could happen if a lone arctic wolf, that was lonely, came upon a team of dogs and one or the other was in heat). This "instinct to kill rivals" isn't as strong or as true for the Timber wolves and Grey wolves that live closer to that town or other sled dogs south of the arctic tundra here where I live in Canada.
Wolfdogs were used in Sledding, even if the owner might not have know their true lineage. But some sledding mushers perpetually breed their dogs to get the "right amount" of wolf in them (this is true even TODAY). Truthfully each wolfdog is different regardless of the percentage in their blood.
I know because I worked at a Veterinary Clinic 3 years here in BC Canada and the wolfdogs that were "trouble makers at home" due to their blood percentage were all very sweet and knew what I wanted them to do or behave if my back was accidentally turned to them. I even did my first year of University in a prestige Pre-Veterinary program before I decided to change degrees.
I still volunteer as a pet foster parent, but more towards the Neonatal kittens & puppies because I am knowledgeable in their care with no mom available, as wildlife or cars does kill them often enough unfortunately.
But I still go and give the wolfdogs love and attention when I need to pick up supplies for my little charges from the Humane Society I volunteer for.
I really do see your point but this movie is always going to be a piece of my childhood as I watched it when I was 4 (born 1994) and it never gets old...besides it reminds me of a dad figuere I had and always brings tears to my eyes haha
Oh I love the movie to pieces, I wouldn't have wanted to talk about it otherwise ^^ It is a cornerstone of my childhood as well, I just found of the real story equally interesting and worth mentioning.
Same here! I watched it when I was 4 and became obsessed with it for at least 3 years. All though, I was born in 2006, and still have the VHS tape for the movie. I recently rewatched it, and cried. I wish the movie got more attention, but maybe if some company makes a remake, where Balto and Togo are in the movie, then it probably would've gone down as a classic.
I'm 2 years late tho so lol
20 teams participated in the serum relay. 19 ran an average of 31 miles. 1 team ran 264 miles…. End credits scene from Togo. This line impacted me the most and most definitely put into perspective how far Togo and Seppuella ran at the risk of their own lives. But the movie overlooks a few complications as well, including Balto’s side of the story. For example, it implies that Togo and Sepuella did not gain the fame that Balto did. This is true, however they DID go on their own tour, as stated in this video. Anyways, well done. You explained everything without taking away from the original story of Balto. And it was great to hear this again (after watching the movies both Togo and Balto).
My childhood movie
For people it's a pet to some a friend but to a dog you are their universe.
I wonder why they left out Togo and why there was so many fictional characters.
Balto's AWESOME,COOL AND AMAZING
both dogs are heros lol stop favoring one over the other, to jump on a bandwagon over a Disney movie.. rip the 5 dogs that died on the run
Not only was this video interesting to watch but your positive attitude made the experience so much better :)
Muk and Luk being ignored?but it's Phil Collins from Genesis
I know, I actually really like Phil Collins! ^^
Awesome sauce yeah he is awesome
***** Yes it is! ^w^
THEPINKFLOYDPORTAL
wow this is really interesting when i was little i always thought that balto made the entire journey on his own. i find it sad that they didnt include other heroic dogs that were in the journey because there stories deserve to be heard as well. but it still is a great movie!!
I love balto
That mountain and the ice was mentioned. I too don't understand why they had Balto going through that when it was Togo...
i love this movie
I saw this video in my language arts class and it made me cry 😥it was so beautiful
i named a little wolf plush "aleu" after the 2nd movie
I agree, steel could have been handled differently and been a rivalry character that begrudgingly cooperates for the towns sake since man (or in this case dog) vs nature is really the main conflict here.
Awesome review, I also love this movie (and the characters), and it is responsible for me looking into the actual history. As for the inaccuracies between the film, and actual event. I just tend to view them separately. To paraphrase what you said, The movie is a fictional take on am actual historical event. I did not know about a lot of those facts about Togo and I very much appreciate finding that out. This review was a lot of fun to watch.
Thank you most sincerely! ^^
David Moeller
You are very welcome.
It was all very interesting but... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Steele wins the caption me contest with flying colours, with a heart beat! 😂😂🤣😂 HILARIOUS!!!
Here watching this years later when Togo has his own movie
16:26 My favorite part along with the caption me's. Those are pretty hilarious. XD
Actually the whole video is pretty funny. It's just long. But I still love the video. Nice job.
Over 100 dogs and 20 mushers were apart of the serum run. Such an amazing story!!
Pause at 19:44 and 19:50
Steele never fails to please! ^^
David Moeller I totally agree
For everyone who read this comment go and check out the new movie togo and see what happend in real life back then. The movie is heartbreaking most of you will cry in the end as me had 😥 it's worth every minute of your time!
I didn't cry. What are you talking about? There was dust in my eye!
Seriously, the movie is fantastic.
Feb 2 is my B-Day!!!
Nice! ^_^
I love this video and i love the commentator. He has much respect and acknowledgement for the true hero Togo. Congrats buddy. Togo really did make it for a movie of his own.
its kind of sad that this animation last movie
Gosh darn it! I wish I had discovered this video when I was still in Highschool! I could’ve done a paper on the Mercy Run for history and English!!!!!
This movie is like the untouchables when it comes to historical elments.
Actually Togo did most of the work like 200 miles but he got injured himself he couldn't make it and Balto had to take it the last 2 miles but Balto got all the credit because Togo arrived 2 days later
Hi I just found this video. very well done you should be pleased. :)I did learn a lot about the run rom you so thank you for that. I think in many ways this movie is similar to the run itself (in that not many people know about it) which is a shame, both from a historical point and charming film point of view. I love this film so much, looking it more as (from the VHS box, his story become LEGAND). So it is more of a "what if" or fantasy take on the story. But now, minus that you could not call the film "Balto" I think you could have made work even maintaining the "half wolf" storyline if the filmmakers REALLY wanted that. And this truly just off the top of my head s take it for that that is worth. Since Togo ad Balto were at one point owned by the same masher, it could have been that Togo as a young pup befriend Balto and kept telling him like "look at me, my history and I made it, one day it will be your turn" then Togo goes ahead of Balto, (mention the other marshes and see some of Togo journey) and gets caught in storm. Balto seeing the kids (Rosie) becoming worse + worried about his friend goes off to find him and help him. Balto finds the team, but the dogs are to tired to go on. Togo says, "take the medicine, it's your turn" and maybe "encourages" his marsher to take Balto on, who is reluctant because Balto is half wolf" getting a scene between the marsher and his favorite dog, but understanding the importance of the job and lets Balto led him back and then you get the third part of the film as is" adding while Balto has fallen off the cliff comes to form a loyalty to the marhser because he was saw the marsher and Togo interact. So its is inner strength and now loyalty to others that help him bring the medicine back. So it would almost become a duel protagonist story between Balto and Togo and again mentioning the other teams who helped. Again that was just off the top of my head, while trying to keep elements from the film we have as a "kid" movies in the 1990s, after watching this video. Great job and I hope you keep making more. :)
+Sadiep16 Holy cow, thank you for taking the time to write such an elaborate comment! ^^ I am happy to hear that my video presented some new facts that most are unaware of when they see the movie. I really am grateful that you would give it a watch and that its content would be so meaningful. I also agree with you, I think it would have been amazing to see a movie about a friendship between Balto and Togo and how they work together to get the serum through. Again, I still love the movie, it's always been one of my favorites, but it is still fun to imagine all the things they could have added to pay homage to some of the forgotten heroes! ^^ Again, thank you so much for watching this and for the wonderful comment! All the best! ^_^
+David Moeller You are most welcome. I agree I still love the film, but as an aspiring writer myself (though that may not have been clear from my first comment, lol) when I hear bits of stories that did not make it in a film my mind goes to work on "how can this work" and comes up with a "new story". So I propose the question to you, how would you make this story while keeping it "kid" friendly?
+Sadiep16 Well what constitutes "kid friendly" is rather debatable. In movies like "The Land Before Time" or "The Secret of NIMH" you had major death scenes and they were still considered kids films. Be that as it may, I don't know that you had to include death in order to make it more true to the reality of the event. I think the major change I would have made is to truly focus on it being a team effort. A lot of time and work was spent on the original movie making Balto THE hero, when there were many heroes. So I would have focused on a team, which has worked in other movies like "The Mighty Ducks". You could maybe have some more dramatic injuries or even the killing of a minor character, but using teamwork to get through adversity would have resonated higher with me. A close example of this was a movie called "Eight below", which not everyone made it but as a team, most survived. But while well done, I find the movie unwatchable more than once. All in all I am ok with compromises being made to make something simple enough to fit into a feature length movie, but I would have liked to have seen a friendship between Balto Togo and maybe a few others be what carried the film rather than the "one hero" story structure.
+David Moeller Thank you for taking the time to write back to me. I think that is a fair assessment and yes "kid friendly" or "for kids" is a debatable topic I was just trying to think of if you were making this film still in the early 1990s. But yes I agree a team effort would have worked in capturing more of how many people (and dogs) it took instead of the lone HERO type of film. Though as I said I still LOVE this film for what it is. One last question, only because you did not mention it in the review itself what did/do you think of the "famous" White Wolf scene? Again, thank you for taking the time to "talk" to me. And I look forward to your next videos.
+Sadiep16 I agree, I still really love the movie, even with its flaws. If it was not one of my childhood favorites I probably wouldn't have taken the time to look into it so much. Originally I wasn't going to include all of the history, I just thought getting a picture of the real Balto would be neat, which is when I learned he wasn't half-wolf, and the rest went from there. As for the "White Wolf" scene: looking at in just within the context of the film, I do really like it. The musical build up is some of the best in the movie and it is neat to see our main character embrace who he is to find the strength to save the day. It is a nice lesson to not be ashamed of who you are, that things you think might make you "bad" really just make you unique and can help you find a special role you can fill like no other. Some theorize that the wolf is his mother, especially based on the second movie but I don't delve into that fan theory in the matter much.So all-in-all I think it is a well done scene that adds a lot of strength to our main character and to the movie. Of course in historical context, it works to reinforce the "One hero" mentality, but I think they could have still had it in a team mentality. But I ramble; hopefully somewhere in that jumbled mangle of words, something made a lick of sense! I am always happy to talk to people and answer questions; I thank you for being patient with my response time! :)
3:36 Haha, nice one. We all know dogs can talk, you silly goose.
Lollywood once again screws it up. Togo is the biggest hero, but Disney finally got it right in 2019 with "Togo."
thanks for putting this together
In my opinion,,,Togo and Balto,,,both did their best for the cerum,,,,together with the entire team dogs,,,they deservs to be called as heroes....to avoid any bias.
I watched this over a year ago. I have alot of reasons to enjoy this that I can't write right now
Nice review. Even though I love this movie very much, I would love to see more reviews of "Balto", regardless if they have a high or low opinion of the movie. I'm hoping that the Nostalgia Critic will do a review on "Balto". As previously mentioned, I do enjoy the movie, but I did find some flaws with it. I didn't find the conflict of Balto being part wolf a problem (I actually find it relatable, since I have Asperger's Syndrome, which makes me somewhat of an outcast), but I found some of the supporting characters annoying. Boris is hit and miss to me as comic relief, and Muk and Luk are grating and should have been written out of the movie (it's a shame, since they are voiced by Phil Collins). I also didn't think the bear scene was necessary. Looking at all of the details of Togo and Seppala, it would've been interesting if they were in the movie and have them as possibly an additional conflict for Balto instead of a full-blown antagonist or the fictional side characters. Overall, it's still a great classic in my eyes and I think it's better than '"Toy Story" (even though I love that movie, too). Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Hey, I really wanted to thank you for the very nice comment ^^ I agree that the "outcast" aspect of the story was interesting and well done. I've never exactly been "a part of the crowd" myself. Like I said, I love the movie very much and have always had fond memories of it. I just thought some of the history was too fascinating not to talk about and it's just a shame they didn't find room for it in the movie. I also like Phil Collins and it's a shame they couldn't give his voice talent some more solid characters. Anyway, I also wanted to really thank you for standing up to that troll who was trying to have a comment war with you. I have since blocked him and I hope his groundless, ignorant pessimism didn't get to you in any way. But I thought it was really kind of you to defend my work. Just because a movie is meant for kids, doesn't mean you don't have to try. Some of the best films are ones that can appeal to both kids and adults. Sorry you couldn't make him understand that. I'd advise blocking him as well. Anyways, thanks again and all the best! ^_^
+David Moeller No problem. "Balto" has inspired me to embrace my autism instead and use it as an advantage to help myself, other people, and animals, too (I see myself as Balto trying to save a bug or baby birds like he saves the children). And it really grinds my gears when I hear someone say that I can't enjoy or find flaws in a film because it's a kids' movie and I'm an adult. You said yourself that the film shouldn't be like a documentary and that the film was still enjoyable even with the historical inaccuracies. Either he willfully ignored that, or he didn't see the whole video and assumed you were "bashing" the movie. But, IMO, I found it odd that "Balto" didn't have songs, but they went the Disney route of adding comical sidekicks. I personally didn't mind Nikki, Kaltag, or Star, or Steele as the villain, but as previously mentioned, I still found Muk and Luk to be obnoxious. And if I asked some kids what they thought of the two polar bears after seeing "Balto", I'm sure some would agree. Also, the movie has tons of animation errors, especially with lip-syncing and continuity (I watched the movie too much :3). I guess that's why I *slightly* enjoyed the second movie because it dwelled less on comic relief and more on the themes of identity spand acceptance I loved in the first movie. So, yeah, a "kids movie" isn't a valid excuse for movie clichés. That's why animated movies are in a segregated category at the Oscars, and why "Beauty and the Beast" is the only animated movie so far to be nominated for Best Picture. And I find that sad, to be honest. But, I'm hopeful that the recent wave of phenomenal films from Disney, Pixar, and sometimes Dreamworks and Illumination will change that perception. Thank you, and God bless (Forgive me if this reply was too long. I tend to be wordy online but rarely speak in real life). :)
Also, I've learned that the real Balto was often seen walking around with a goose. So, "Boris" wasn't so fictional after all.
There needs to be a movie about Togo that still at least has Balto as a background character so that we can say thank you to both of them
They just made a movie about Togo
