Balto is my all time favorite movie and has bene since I was a little kid....maybe I'm a little biased since I am Alaskan and have family from the Nome Bering strait area but still when I watched it years ago for the first time I immediately fell in love with it

have you considered the possibility that they made it start, and end with the grandmother telling the story to a child, to give the story more flexibility?

One of my biggest gripes about this movie is the fact that the people all act so helpless. They’re like, “Oh no, the sled dog team hasn’t returned in a week! God forbid we ourselves get off our ass and do anything or even just simply wait a little longer, guess we’ll just turn off our only beacon of hope and allow our children to painfully die! Oh wait, what’s this!? It looks like some random stray dog has decided to be the only one to take any initiative and spare the lives of our children! We’re saved!” Also in 1925 if a wolf-dog really had been born on the outskirts of Nome, the people would’ve killed it almost immediately upon it showing it’s face around town.

As mentioned in the movie Togo, apparently Balto got paired with another dog named "Fox" as lead dog

in the movie, if balto is a wolf dog then why is he smaller than literally everyone

As much as I'm nostalgic about the 1995 film, knowing more about the true story as an adult it's a shame they didn't hew closer to the actual events. It would've been so easy to keep the same narrative arc for Balto, but ditch the pointless polar bears etc and have Togo be the dog-sledding star who Balto looks up to. While bringing back the medicine, Togo and the others get lost/trapped in the wilderness, and Balto rescues them and brings the antitoxin the latter part of the journey. With just this one essential shift, the film could've honoured the other dogs (especially Togo) while retaining the character of Balto we know from the actual film.

Your review is spot on. I agree that the movie did not need Steele. The story could have been more developed and historically accurate by removing him as a villain, and sticking with the diphtheria outbreak and the snow as the main conflicts. I also think the polar bears should have been removed as comedic relief characters. Their screen time could’ve been used to further develop Balto’s story. Removing Steele and the polar bears would have also allowed space for Togo to enter as a character. The sled dog team could still lose their way so Balto could lead them back into town. I know that’s not completely accurate, but it would certainly close the gap and keep the movie interesting.

20 teams participated in the serum relay. 19 ran an average of 31 miles. 1 team ran 264 miles…. End credits scene from Togo. This line impacted me the most and most definitely put into perspective how far Togo and Seppuella ran at the risk of their own lives. But the movie overlooks a few complications as well, including Balto’s side of the story. For example, it implies that Togo and Sepuella did not gain the fame that Balto did. This is true, however they DID go on their own tour, as stated in this video. Anyways, well done. You explained everything without taking away from the original story of Balto. And it was great to hear this again (after watching the movies both Togo and Balto).

99.9% of this movie is fake. The only REAL thing is that balto did run the race. also i read a book about togo and it changed my whole perspective and now i HATE balto but my bro says HE is the hero

I've been waiting to hear about this for a long time. No wonder Togo gets more credit. Regardless I agree. Balto is still my #1 best children's movie ever and the moment you realize Disney did NOT create this movie.

Togo just got a movie last year sadly it wasn't released in theaters in the us and was put on disneys streaming service

So what became of that cowardly Steel after the end of the movie since he never return again in Balto 2:Wolf Quest and Balto 3 Wings of Changes?

Poor Balto. He suffered so much abuse and died alone too apparently. Seems like fate gave him fame in return for the absence of love in his life which Togo had.

How can anyone say that 'Balto story sucks'?

they shouldve put togo into the movie instead of steal, they still coulndve made that he didnt liked Balto in the beginning (because of the beeing part wolf thing) but at the end when they are in the snow storm seeing him what he really is and working together to get the medecine back home

It's interesting that they gave Steele the eye markings many modern day huskies have but those markings seem to be absent from the other dogs in this movie. Did they feel that the mask/markings made him look especially villainous?

... Because my creative writing side is too strong, I whipped up a scenario where Togo's the paragon character to act as the counter to Steele. The noble, heroic dog who was probably the only one who immediately believes or trusts Balto. Make him a Good Boy, basically.

Love how after the last sled team got to the town with the medicine and commended for the bravery of all the other teams that the dogs were bought out from the original owner and then treated poorly, forced to tour and kept in terrible conditions at a shitty circus after all they went through and all they did for Nome.

sounds like they really should have made the run into a mini-series of sorts. Each team getting their own 30 min segment or more depending on the stories.

In my opinion,,,Togo and Balto,,,both did their best for the cerum,,,,together with the entire team dogs,,,they deservs to be called as heroes....to avoid any bias.

This is why hol8wood and Disney are all charge. They only make things to make money they never care about truth .
