I remember going to see Metallica at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Kyuss opened for them, Coming from a black metal background and some of the first death metal, I had never imagined this "stoner thing", Il never forget hearing that tone and sound. It was funny seeing the Metallica fans too. Jason did a massive bass solo but Kyuss were fresh and it was like hearing Grunge for the first time, thank F ,we had something else. That groove was hard to ignore, much like the groove in CARCASS and Pantera, but these guys were stoned. As a gravel road. Great Lesson, what a nice guy and channel.
Thank you! 👍👍 That’s just unreal! Have heard similar stories from dudes who were lucky enough to see them on that tour. Can only imagine - just epic!! Cheers for sharing.
The reason you hear the “d” chord before the chorus is because he likely played the open bottom 3 strings. So you get, in transposed speak, E-A-D. Which is the open E you hear, and the root and 5th of a d chord in an inverted power chord.
These Kyuss lessons are so good. 🙏🤘. Onto track 3 - Molten Universe? Gardenia would be killer. 100 degrees ? Can’t wait for the next lesson. Thank you TIRFN
@@thisisriffin Absolute legend mate. Appreciate the time that must go into transcribing and doing the tabs. Well beyond my capabilities. Thanks for making these songs do-able. Sub count should be through the roof !
Wicked as usual… Thanks! I’ll be in touch with you before I leave the Arizona desert 🌵 here. I’m heading Mexico for 3 months. There’s a couple weeks to look at this awesome beast of a lesson before I leave, My headless travel guitar unfortunately is in E standard or a bit lower, I’ll really miss the lower alt tunings. Travelling light with the headless disassembled and a small Spark GO amp. I’ll find some gigs while away and hopefully some bigger cab / amps to plug in.
Thanks mate couldn’t look past this banger! There’s not too much to show with my set up really 😅. I’m just plugging straight into a Fender ‘champion’ amp using an over drive setting! But definitely could aim to do a walk through down the road!
Bang on as much as you want perfect, I’m only a year n half into my journey I’m 50 wish I started years ago but you are my go to to learn songs I love this type of music. I have a request, have you listened to The ReStoned ? Russian stoner band they are amazing, I’d like to request any songs from the astral lizard albums give them a listen if you haven’t already.
@@thisisriffin nice one, I actually had a few lessons from the guitarist in the band he’s a really chilled out dude. Even though I’m in Scotland and he’s in Russia we made it work over video calls. You should check out the live gigs they have on RUclips in a couple there is a guy playing bongo drums, he is a Shamen who lives in the mountains and only comes down sometimes haha. My favourite albums are the astral lizard albums much more chilled out. But I really like all their stuff. Most of it is heavy riffin I think you’ll like it. But if you haven’t already check out the astral lizard albums there is volume one and volume two. They can both be listened to together . Anyway hope you can figure out any of them for some lessons .
If I could have wished a channel into existence it would have been this. You’re a legend mate, thank you!
Thanks mate nice of you to say, much appreciated! 👍👍 cheers
