Marshall looking at boutique amps manufacturers selling 68 plexis with built-in variac, bright cap switches, built-in attenuators: yeah let’s launch a new headphone lines, a beer and some fridges! :)
@@TomHappyapril It's a shame for a legendary brand like Marshall, one of the few left with a factory in England. The low-quality transformers in recent JCM800s really angered me, it really shows management is all about cutting costs and delivering shitty products with a familiar logo on the front. The Swedish company who took over is treating Marshall like any other brand, with no understanding of the music market at all. Feels like they're heading towards a Gibson-like dark period.
What are you even talking about? Marshall takes all the top 7 selling amps on Thomann. Mini plexi (SV20H) is #2. The first Friedman amp is at #60 which is the JEL20. Not strange when the JEL20H is €2000 and the SV20H is €900. Friedman might be more popular in USA where Marshall's distributor is overcharging for them.
Aww man, thanks!! The Namm is not a nice place to relax and enjoy your own playing but this rig made me forget about the chaos around me (and even about the camera pointing at me, haha) //Kris
I've been doing the modeling thing forever just being a bedroom guitarist, but if I'm ever going to buy another tube amp it's definitely going to be a Friedman.
I'm there with ya! Had an EVH 5150 III 6L6 'Mini 50' with the accompanying 2x12" EVH cab. It gets that tone and feel, but with it using 6L6 power tubes, it had that 'Fender-amp' vibe as well. I loved it, but it was still 'missing' something. Friedman's PLEX Vtg Amp 'HAS' that 'something' that's missing with the EVH 5150 III 6L6. Edward's guitar tone has been seared into my brain for decades, as well as Randy Rhoads' tone, and George Lynch's for that matter. But I always come back around to some kind of variation of Ed's 'Brown Sound'. I was 'ruined' on it a LONG time ago, in a good way, though! 😎
@@VideosVarious2 Yeah my last tube amp was many years ago but I exclusively used the Peavey 1st gen 5150 into a Marshall 1960A 4x12, then downsized into a 5150 2x12 combo which was a ridiculously heavy beast. Then as my rockstar dreams died out and I really needed a good bedroom volume that's when I found modeling got me pretty close to at least the high gain sounds I wanted. The funny thing is ever since modeling started getting really good with things like DAW plugin software and the axe-fx etc I always find my favorite sounds in those units are captures and models of Friedman amps. The ability they have to completely saturate but still retain clarity is unparalleled IMO.
Can't thank you enough Dave! Having a BE 50 Deluxe changed EVERYTHING for me and can't wait to add this new Plexi to my Friedman collection! TOTAL sonic satisfaction!!
Thanks to Friedman for designing great amps ! Marshall has been a thing of the past since the 90s ! The only thing keeping them afloat is the Rental Business.
I have played and owned many amp brands in my 20 plus years of playing... the moment i played (then got a friedman) i will never go back to any other amp brand. Best amp brand out there!! 👌
Glad Dave heard my plea...though I use Germinos....its nice to see him jump in there. But a pure unadultered circuit is my choice. Everything switch and whatnot affect the signal.. but if I didn't have my Germinos...I would consider this.
Great to see Dave at NAMM this year. I remember a few years ago Dave stated he wouldn't go again. Amazing offerings lately with Friedman and others like George from Metropolus with his new MetroPlex Super Lead, nails EVH as well as classic rock tone. My favorite amp I own!
Friedman could easily fill the market void in amps by making the amps with the mods people like Eddie, slash, etc had in their amps at the time of recording their respective albums.
@@TheKLeifheit13 what’s the model? I’m curious the 36 mod seems to be the hardest to replicate. BRBS does a great job on mods but they’re all the way in Italy.
@@TheKLeifheit13 that sucks it was discontinued. I’ve got a 100w silver jubilee, it can get the 92 tone spot on with an EQ. Closest I’ve been able to get to an AFD tone is running a BRBS nightrain pedal into a clean amp setting. There’s definitely a void that could be filled if an amp manufacturer were to incorporate the #36, #34, #39, Jose mod, and eddies mods into an amp line.
@@EndlngAnthem if you want Jose mods get a Peavey VTM 60 or 120. It's exactly a JCM800 circuit with every typical mod built in and they're all switchable in/out of the circuit. Only made in the 80's but can find em for 600-800 used now. Made in the US too.
Dave Friedman is amazing and the other guy whos equally amazing is Jason Tong ( Headfirst Amplifiers Australia).. Probably the 2 top guys in this field.
Man, Dave just makes things that sound good. Every damn time my wallet hurts looking at one of his new products and the amps especially. Between, this, the AC30, the Naked MK 2, and the JJ100. I have more than enough amps I want to buy, but he just keeps making more amps....
It's a damn shame Marshall doesn't offer the 50th anniversary JMP and JCM 800 1 watt series as a year round stock item, they would sell tens of millions year in year out because they both sound absolutely incredible . The current DSL 1 WATT doesn't compare in any way shape or form. ruclips.net/video/M276pkb80s4/видео.html
Not a lot of gain at all. That’s why it’’s so articulate. It needs to be loud and you have to have the chops to make it sound like that. Not for the feint of heart!
So many people miss the point that tone comes from the player. Not the amp. Case in point: Nuno Bettencourt tells the story of the time Extreme was opening for Van Halen and Eddie invited Nuno to blast on his rig for a bit. Nuno was all jazzed thinking "I'm finally going to sound like Eddie Van Halen." But much to his chagrin he (Nuno) came to the disappointing realization that he still sounded like himself. Michael Schenker could play through Eddie's rig and it would still sound like Michael Schenker. It's a nice sounding amp. No doubt about it. But I wish the designers would stop riding Eddie's coattails regarding tone. Only Eddie Van Halen sounds like Eddie Van Halen. Many people can mimic him, but no one can sound like him regardless of what amp they're playing through.
Dave said it. An “actual “ variac which does the same thing AS a real variac.. meaning , it does what a real variac does but it’s not a “REAL” variac.. double speak.. it’s not a real variac , it just controls the voltage and self biases, which is cool ..
Cool sounding amp for sure... Obviously, this is aimed at middle aged empty-nesters with a bit of cash to blow but one would think with the trend toward going ampless these days, and the fact that the market doesn't need another expensive Marshall clone, one would consider this a risky proposition. I think companies like Soldano is heading in the right direction, with the thinking of, that if you are going to have a new tube amp, it should incorporate modern features like built-in IRs with the possibility of loading external IRs, speaker defeat, direct out, and great sound at a decent price. I love the old style amps as well as the next person, but noone these days wants to lug a half stack around anymore let alone a pricey modded Plexi clone ($2799) with no loop and limited tonal/output options.
Dave has the Fryette Power Station PS -100 in this video. That other thing under the Power Station is just a KHE amp switcher. Fryette has two Power Station models the PS-100($1,199) and the PS-2A($899).

How a Marshall Plexi should sound. Dave nails it with his amp lineup. I have the smallbox and it’s all I need. This one sounds great too!
Marshall Origin Series and Studio Series have just that
These things sound way better than Marshall’s lol
The small box is another of Dave’s recreation of his holy grail 50 watt plexi
Sounds 2x better than any EVH amp!!!
.. in every demo the Friedman always sounds so nice and crunchy 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Gotta love any good amp you can just plug in and play. Yeah, this sounds great!

I hear Joe Satch has commissioned an amp to emulate Eddie's sound for his next tour with Sammy.

If the volume is cranked up it shouldn’t matter what cap you select as little to no signal will be going through them.
