    Being a veteran hobbiest for many years and now moving to be a sidliner, Ian and Carrie you are an inspiration. The amount of time and effort you put into your operation shows your passion. I can't say enough thanks to you for sharing these videos to the world for the better of the beekeeping industry. Its is evident that what you are doing works as we see hives from 2015. Again thanks for sharing and giving those starting out a guide to success. Even as old beekeepers we can all learn and use the techniques of others for the betterment of the honey bee. Love your work!!!

    My operation is very small compared to Ian (100 colonies). I use a heat gun to clean my excluders. I collect the wax/propolis mix in an upside-down plastic outer cover and use it to coat my plastic foundation. My bees seem to prefer the mix over pure beeswax.

    I started out my career working on industrial control systems in a commercial laundry, and I *badly* want to upgrade your lifts to be Canada-Proof!
    Just need the right grade components... Your environment really isn't that harsh, compared to chemical drenched machines, automatic truck washes, industrial freezers, etc! Lol

    On the subject of hydraulic lifts, and lift trucks:
    I only have three hives, Ian’s educational influence on me prompted me to make an insulated box for my bees for the winter months here in Ontario. I have never had to wear coveralls before but after physically moving my darling from point A to point B I can affirm that if they can’t kiss you on the face, jeans stretch over the inner thighs offer an attractive alternative!

  • @Makermook

    I have a couple questions if you don't mind.
    1) This time of year, all us hobby beekeepers are obsessing over emergency feeding our hives at some point through winter. I don't imagine you do that with all the hives you have. I suppose your approach is to supply them with enough syrup that they store all they need?
    2) Do you have to contend with mice getting into your hives when they're in storage?

    • @matthewmccormick2417
      @matthewmccormick2417 3 года назад +3

      I am in cold area like IAN. He like me feeds the hives to a weight of about 90 pounds so the have the winter storage. Ian like me his winter shed is closed off tight so no critters can invade so mice are not a problem. Hope that helped answer question

    Dogs eat carbohydrates so they’re getting diabetes isn’t surprising. I was surprised to find my tomcat developed diabetes, fortunately the cat had been re-homed so I’m not the one who has to monitor his blood-sugar levels
