Stop and think. Always a good plan.
My dad said one time he was in Chicago and had to back up down an alleyway with cars on both sides and had to jackknife into the loading dock. He said it was snowing outside. By the time he had the trailer to the dock, he had both windows down and the AC blowing😂
🤣🤣🤣Happened to me too they expect us to make miracles
😂😂😂Yes more than a few times. If you haven't had one of those experiences you really haven't drove truck! From a Chicago driver 12yrs strong.
Thank God for the real truck drivers!
“I’m not a teacher”
But you are one hell of a role model. Know this is an older video, but wanted to comment how much your calm professional attitude is appreciated. The world needs more drivers like this.
Can’t beat the whistle and growl of a big CAT.😎👍
Great job you seems like a very decent and skillful driver
Schmidt you are a true professional driver not many left, keep videos coming my friend,
Thank you
You are actually one of a very tiny number of truck drivers who is in a good shape, praise God.
The everyday struggle of driving a long nose. They are incredibly gorgeous and there's nothing else like them going down the highway. But unless you drive one, you definitely don't know the everyday issue's of the area needed to make the turns. It's definitely a true art form of being able to turn 1 without hitting the corners. Driver of a 2016 Peterbilt 389 long nose.
Great Job brother...love your truck...best truck ever made...im from davenport iowa....
Dammmm now that was some large car turning 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😁😁😁😁😁😁😎😎😎😎
I hate to admit it, but I’ll for all your new drivers. This is the way you shift your gears, slow and consistent. This is one good truck driver knows how to shift gears and get maximum RPMs and performance out of his engine truck on brother
I drove past that firehouse on 25th Ave. just north of Cermack Road (22nd) for years on my way home from Midnights to avoid the 290
Stopped in to see the museum in the Iowa 80 truck stop 2 years ago. Cool stuff there.
The engine noise is way better then music playing
Almost 2 thousand subs! That is mind blowing. When in doubt, think it out.
This is why I love my Volvo, for days like this.
Pretty cool seeing that stainless on a company ride. I pulled into downtown windy and backed down between two skyscrapers too unload some rice off my 48 ft reefer. I dodged freaking fire escapes hanging down man! It was a 200 yard "zig and sag" afair. Plus only about a 15 foot wide alley! LoL. Outstanding.
How ya doing Mr. Schmidt, man i'll tell you at the beginning of the video i was pumping my imaginary brakes the moment you went under that train bridge. I'm grateful that you explain things and give your perspective on how you'd handle the problems or situations that you come across but your correct on how you explain things. My two cents is knowing your equipment and it's limitations and about the mask.....if i had 5 dollars for every time I forgot to bring my mask with me, i'd be on a paid vacation in hawaii right about now. God bless stay safe and stay loaded. 🇺🇸
Thank you.
Boyhowdy that was nice. It is extremely important to have good communication
I like you man. You appear to be a straight forward stand up old school man. My old man would’ve liked you too.
Thank you
Kurt, Chicago is definitely a day cab kinda town. Sure enjoy your attitude when the situation would rattle many drivers.
Sounds great.
I love the sound of your truck, this is a good clean channel thank u
Welcome, thank you for watching
Thanks for the laugh today! The teacher part had me laugh out loud. New to your channel and I'm liking what I'm seeing.
Thank you
I have family in Center Point. Just found your channel
Taking the skyway bridge in and out was ALWAYS my choice of route. The toll costs $! But, well worth saving the headache.
My Uncle like your blog since you drive a Kenworth.
Glad you're having a good day! I just hate it when I forget that mask and have to go back for it! Maybe in another eight to ten months we won't be worrying so much about masks!
I once had a guy pop out his truck at midnight to tell me my clearance while parking at a truck stop in Fairburn GA. I was following his instructions to keep going when I hear the sound of metal collide. Good thing I was going real slow, I winded up hitting the chrome cover of a drivers side smoke stack. Driver I hit was about to call the police when I persuaded him with $200.00 dollars to let it go. Lesson learned, DON'T TRUST ANYONE WHEN BACKING UP AT A TRUCK STOP, ALWAYS GET OFF AND LOOK!!!
Nice kenworth, stay safe and happy trails to you my friend.
Same to you and thank you
I love the sound of your truck.
When you had the camera right in front of the shifter, you could see the vibration!...👍
Hey man, I just found the channel last night. Enjoying going through the previous videos now. Keep up the great work. Watching from Vermont..
Thank you
Okay, who the hell, wait, how the hell did someone thumbs down this video? Schmidt, you have mad skills! Give great advise. Are a genuine outstanding individual! Stay safe and hydrated.
When you start getting thumbs down thats how you know you got a good you tube channel. Lol
This is my favorite trucking channel, just subscribed today.....thanks for talking to us like normal people. Keep the videos coming!!!
Thank you.
Wow Kurt that truck stop looks awesome! And them trucks ; nice!
I used to do the south water market shuffle five nights a week no power steering fixed tandem 48’ trailer. Then I got to go to jewel foods inside dock about three days a week after I did the market. Then do Chinatown for my reload, ahhh those were the days....
Thats some driving there.
Trucking With Schmidt : didn’t know any better.
Hey man, I'm a new follower. I love your content because you make it cool brother. You're a gentleman. Best regards.
Thank you
First time shouting out!!! Here in south ALABAMA,, Really enjoy your videos!!!! God bless you and your family!!!
Thank you from iowa
Chicago is all about tight. Many backing on one way streets. The hardest is road front property
That mural on the trailer at the truck stop was out if this world!
Great Advice!!! Stop and Think.
Guy in red Kentworth.. SHOWBOATING LOL!
Another wonderful video......Happy Trails
And glad your having a better day today told you tomorrow is another day😉👍
Would almost consider a cabover for the Chicago area...🤦🏼😁
Good trucking channel,

Nice looking KW.
Smooth on those gears!!
5:41 Cute eyes my friend👀 👍
I went to the grocery store yesterday and as soon as I walked it seemed like everyone was staring at me, then I realized I forget my mask, I was so annoyed that I just left,
Drive safe good luck
I drove a w900 icon for 2 years! I don't miss the tight turns
"aw crap thats my truck". lol
Great & Clear Video ... Thanks
I love watching your videos, I’m also a fellow driver. Your sense of humor makes me laugh especially after a long day driving.
Thank you
Trucking With Schmidt your welcome
I’ve seen so many drivers at truck stop try and direct another driver while standing in a blind spot. Lol
Yup, gotta ask.
The first year of driving through Chicago and the other communities was hectic. THOSE bridges were very scary. I've seen too many trailers opened up like soup cans. I had a map showing low bridges. But, you STILL pucker, inching your way under a rusty set of steel girders. Ha ha ha 😂!
I hated Chicago when I started trucking years ago. I was scared of hitting a low bridge as a rookie.
I touched one once, was at a crawl because it looked low. Once it touched I back out. For 2 miles lol.
I am agree with you about worst places in Chicago specially at the north side of the city, also your big kw is beautiful
Thank you
@@truckingwithschmidt7120 my pleasure and keep trucking
👍😉. Truck sound sweet. 😉👍
Me gustan los KW , aquí donde yo vivo fabrican los Kenworth , soy de Baja California , México . Saludos desde Ensenada .
Watching from texas sir good job 🙏🙏
Thank you
I drive a daycab contracted to Kroger, hauling reefer product to stores from Shelbyville, IN. for the last 12 years.....I hate Chicago.
If I decide to get my own, I'd probably never go there.
That's the beauty of independence!
I did 2yrs as a city driver in a daycab 53ft trailer. Spent my day backing up more then going forward at times? It was get out have a look and wonder how I am I going to get that trailer in there. I had fun! Everybody told me I was number one every day hahaha. Changed jobs and they wanted me to do OTR NO I'll do city. NO insurance does not let us hire guys like you to do city with out OTR. So drove a box truck and still had fun.
That’s Broadview Illinois I made several stops in that building. Yes it’s a very tight space for a tractor trailer.
Running up to Fitzgerald Ga on us 1
Enjoying your video
Thank you
I would enjoy more than what ur lded with is hear where u r loading
I drove two for awhile, those tight d ocks were hell.
Yes slow down and think 👍
Great video, Great driving 👍
Back when Mt St Helens blew her top, we had particles of ash clear over here in Cleveland Ohio.
$2.38 gallon for Diesel ⛽?
Not too bad, these days. But when I started out. I was paying .72¢ gallon at Fuel City truckstops down south. Times have changed.
Nice sunglasses.
Hell I love good advice keep it coming give us as much advise as you can it may save a accident or a life one day because someone took advise they saw on one of your videos. Safe travels and keep it shiny side up.
Also congrats on 2K subs
Thank you and thank you on being part of the 2000
Everyone that's driven through Chicago knows...at least twice during your drive though you will see someone doing 100+, especially on 94...i always go with the flow there..which is about 10 over.
I've never been over the road but I cut my teeth on backing into some really bad places while in the oilfield especially down here in Southeast Texas and Louisiana. I've been in areas where you have to hit it or you lose your truck in the swamp.
Well 10/4 be careful
Paccar boasted about being the owner operators' truck of choice, but you'd think they'd give you more room to turn the steer wheels. Anyway, I appreciate that Paccar trucks are designed to haul freight at high speeds.
Good Ol I290 Eisenhower Expressway
Take care
Hello from dunlap Iowa. I have seen your truck a few times before
Love my day cab Volvo... spin circles around those older styled trucks.... old trucks and 53s dont mix here in Boston
No i don't emangine they do. Ive never been to Boston.
I realy like the inside of the truck, ol shoot i like the whole truck . how is your family doing, tel them the lord is in control. Be careful out there.
They are doing great thank you
That’s broadview my little brother navigates that all day In a 53 it sucks but he loves it
I drive chicago every day and the roads and bridges are what you have to worry about the most down town. On I-294 ive had cars and motorcycles race past me doing close to 100mph, and my rigs maxed out at 68mph.
Thats moving
In and out shifting, moving the splitter in neutral, take notes boys.......
Saludos desde la CDMX
Mexico
Good video, you should play Santa 🎅 at 🎄!
Lol, I used to when kids were small.
I wished some drivers do it the same, come out and help to others in need,I like your videos and your great attitude Sir.
2k 👍 going strong
Do miss driving, never really had any problems in Chicago. Was a few places where my tractor was in the street while I was in the dock. However there was an rr donnelley in LA, that place was not built for a sleeper tractor.
It is addictive, but not driving can be equally as addictive.
Bronx NY 1993... Me trying to put a 53' in a 48' hole...The dock workers yellin " ya gota drag the trailer on the wall...ya gota drag the trailer"... Tractor all up over the curb on the other side of street, business owner standing outside staring at my front bumper close to his sign....Me, first year newb thinking wtf as my clutch leg was wearing out....hahaha so funny.
Tough one there.
@@truckingwithschmidt7120Yeah, you've been there, hell we all have, if out long enough....thx for the vids brother.
I was raised up in Fulton St markets is what your talking about the storys
I feel your pain im in w9 studio with a 265wb and wish i had bought a 280 to help with swing dip. You look like you can jack your trailer over harder before you catch the fairings then i can
I have loaded or unloaded in about all of the major US cities, but i never had to go to Chicago.
I've been thinking about getting into trucking.
You head out of Chicago, the way my wife and I leave, we just go North on 20.
Best wishes
Beautiful drive on Hwy 20
