No shade on Tom but without him Walshy would 100% still be Walshy….Walshy established himself in the ce days pre Ogres….he repped well enough to upset the Ogres which led to him joining them. Which led directly into Halo 2 where he/they went unbeaten for a long time

I yelled his name as he walked by and much to my surprise he stopped, turned around and came back to say what’s up and snag a pic really quick. I met a lot of my Halo idols that weekend which of most turned out to be really cool dudes but just knowing how popular Walshy was I always thought it was so sick he gave me the time of day even if it was just for a quick picture. • @anonymous7564
    @anonymous7564 10 месяцев назад

Love Walshy, good guy with a lot of brains and talent.
Getting to halfway through this podcast:
What was it with Halo 4, a checklist and explanation:
    Quick note:
"Accessibility" - "Accessibility is the practice of making information, activities, and/or environments sensible, meaningful, and usable for as many people as possible."
Accessibility is referring to "catering to", the definition simply denotes the idea that basic 'average competitive' players, be it a matchmaking player or a person at a tournament, has far too much experience and understanding in the FPS realm for the individual coming from Bejeweled or Minecraft, thus they remove the layer of skill (via practice) and provide the new player with the capabilities of winning without any regard to skill.
    - Halo 4 carried the tradition of Halo Reach's "Accessibility"
    - Removal of descope (When getting shot if you're scoped into a weapon, you would typically be brought out of your scope, Halo 4 removed this)
    - Inclusion of "Casual FPS" style Loadout solution, continuing Halo Reach's legacy of "casual" Halo
    - Hefty increase on aim assist, bullet velocity, and magnetism/friction on all weapons
    - Hefty focus on Forge, Custom Games, and "new casual modes", while butchering classics and enforcing 'accessibility' policies inside of the gametypes
    - Removal of 1-50 System, although Reach started this, Halo 4 had an offshoot created on Waypoint that didn't even work with skill, it was typically based on win/loss and had no metric in matching, thus the principle of "I was a 35" makes no difference when you only played people level 1-5 on a typical basis
    - Lack of 'sbmm', something traditionally seen inside of Halo's matchmaking since it's creation, which was a carry over from Halo Reach
    - Continued the legacy of "abilities" from Reach, which in turn catered not to the "professional player" (or esports/comp players), but simply to those looking to get an advantage on someone by pressing a button, despite having potato aim
    - Hefty increase in bullet velocity than even Halo Reach, which was already an extensive increase in velocity, making "distance" entirely irrelevant
    - Added new 'weapons' to an already irrelevant notion of a sandbox. Halo's sandbox use to be primarily designed around ease-of-access (accessibility) with the most skillful weapons having the fastest ttk (magnum, br..); Halo 4 continued the Halo Reach tradition and provided numerous 'ease of access' weapons that had faster, or equal, ttk than the skill weapons
    - Continued focus on "heavy vehicles", something Halo 1 - 3 never had a focus on, nor was it defined as such -- A tank was a tank, and could be destroyed by 2 grenades and a melee, not 15 people shooting the driver for the driver to go on a rampage (15+ kills)
    - A continued focus on armor, customization of this armor, and the lore intertwined into multiplayer, something that likely was not touched by most who played the multiplayer exclusively
And simply let's make this one quicker.
Halo Reach, and thus Halo 4, both had the same problem -- with Halo 4's having far more directed "this is a clone" than Halo Reach: It tried to break into the "casual FPS" space, which in turn completely backfired. Halo 4 tried to be a "casual" FPS, bringing in non-fps players to play an fps game, something Call of Duty was so great at.
Halo 4 "tried" to do this, much like Halo Reach, and both failed to capture a dedicated audience larger than a group collectively of 15,000 per day a month or two after launch...on an install base of over 90,000,000.
Halo 4's problems are that 343 Studios/Industries focused on "how to please everyone" instead of "How to make a Halo game".
Fast forward to Halo 5, they tried this approach again, but utilizing the Halo formula, instead of the Reach/CoD formula.
Halo Infinite ended up starting it's roots as a Halo game, and post launch, pushed all development to "become" a casual game, in which no one wanted to play.
I can make this about Infinite, or whatever, but the simplest point is that Halo 4 failed because Halo was never a quality 'casual' fps experience, and it never was capable of being so. It was a casual competitive fps, for competitive oriented players, even in matchmaking -- even in social -- even at a tournament. Halo's "competitive" scene was far more competitive than most other FPS at the time, and the only merits to what brought it to be less competitive, is the continuous attempt for 'accessibility' and assuming that the Minecraft, or Roblox, or Fall Guys player will be "jumping onto Halo to play it" for more than 5 minutes.
This lesson could also bring forward some retrospective to Halo Infinite. 12+ permanent ranked playlists in Halo 2 and Halo 3, with only 4 - 6 unranked options, respectively in these games. Halo Infinite's basic matchmaking has 1 permanent ranked playlist, 1 temporary/rotated ranked playlists, and over 18 unranked options. The focus of Halo 2 and Halo 3 was on matchmaking and the quality of ranked matches, while the focus of Infinite has, thus far, been armor and customization along with social party games -- something "the community" (of youtube) claimed the populous wanted, despite it being the least populated areas of the game.
Here's to hoping that 343 Industries can slowly turn around Halo Infinite with pushing all social into one playlist, making a large quantity of ranked playlists, nerfing assistance and meta shifting the game back to it's roots and away from the accessibility hellscape it created -- we don't need number timers, physical countdown timers, an ai and an announcer telling us when power items or general weapons are available, let alone a focus on "armor" in a first person game (you know, the kind of game where you can't see your armor).
