Golden Axe - Wilderness (Pulse Remix)

=== About this Song ===
Back in 1998, I was part of a small game development company comprised of friends I met through going to school in Manhattan. The game we were creating was a 3D brawler inspired by classic games such as Final Fight and Streets of Rage, and more recent (at the time) titles such as Fighting Force and Die Hard Arcade.
This was my first time composing for any serious project, and it took me many, many tries to put together a song that they liked that could work well as "first level music." The guys on the team were incredibly knowledgeable about games and on game art and philosophy, and they often reminded me that the first gameplay music you hear in a game not only sets the tone for the rest of the game, but should get the player excited to continue playing the game through to the end.
Since then, I've always paid special attention to the music that appears at the beginning of any game. While listening to various game soundtracks, I discovered that even with its relatively crude synths and sounds, "Wilderness" - from the first stage of Golden Axe - was a pretty kickass first level theme. It's not nearly as clean or catchy as some of the music I was used to on the NES, but it was dark, dramatic, exciting, and urgent.
By comparison to a lot of other game music, "Wilderness" is pretty simple and straightforward. I decided to remix it in a style that borrows ideas and sounds from psytrance to keep some of that dark, propulsive sound that's so prevalent in the original track. I wish I could go back in time and create something like this for the brawler we were working on in 1998, but I guess that listening and learning slowly over the past 25 years has made my sound more what it is today.

Thank You! Actually, all of the songs that I can release on Spotify have been released as singles. But I have yet to make an album of them on that platform. I will look into it though, it would be nice to have the songs in one album / playlist on those platforms.
