- At Bohemia Apiary we look for ways to help our bees in the most sustainable way possible. Just like humans, honeybees need good gut health. SuperDFM-HoneyBee is a product that is an all-natural viable (live) microbial probiotic supplement that helps to keep bee gut microbes in balance. It's an all-natural treatment with no preservatives and no GMOs to help our bee colonies develop strong digestive health. In this video we are reviewing the SuperDFM-HoneyBee product in our apiary and applying it during a dearth to help our colonies continue to develop stronger colonies going into fall and winter.

I have used this on one colony only for one year. This hive has done well and I have split this hive more than any of the others. I am using this on more hives this fall. Keep us posted on how your colonies fare and I’ll do the same. Thanks for the video and good luck.
Still use it ?
Yeah man they take that stuff right down. Just found this video. Nice job Jason.
Thanks Bruce
Now I'm not sure about the bees, but with people, 90% of our immune system is in the gut. Or basically there are more viral and bacterial battles in the gut than anywhere else in our bodies. I totally agree that probiotics defend against viruses and bacteria that are spread from Bee to bee like when they transfer nectar from one to the other. Thanks for the info.

Followup the SuperDFM. It's been two years since this video. What results did you find? Are you still using SuperDFM? Thanks
Yes we still use it and have seen consistency in a few factors. We noticed less dysentery in early spring. And little to no issues with nosema (on tested colonies of any concern). Last we find that colonies we use SuperDFM consistently, show better utilization of stored resources. This may be a product of bee volume and not overall bee health. But we are continuing to monitor. Thanks for the question.
Jason,
Are you still using Super DFM and do you have any more thoughts on its use?
Yes and I’m a big fan of this product. It helps my colonies deal with some of the stresses to their guts. I also use their fondant with Apis bioloix in it during winter.
Regular Powdered sugar has cornstarch in it which isn't good for bee gut health. To me, it doesn't seem beneficial to add the powdered sugar to the hive. There is something called bakers powdered sugar that does not have corn starch or you could powder your own with a coffee grinder.
Thank you for telling me
I don't know about that cuz the days has made it out in the wild for hundreds of years and now we're feeding them stuff like that that could be like poison to him I just don't know I'm kind of scared to give it to my bees and all my bees is seeing those caught from the woods and stuff and they would not Hobbes didn't swarm I just got mine from the woods so good luck with it brother and may God bless you
Claude Queen the ingredients are all natural/fermented products to aid in bee digestion much like probiotics we use to help aid in our digestion.
The bees we keep are no longer wild and unfortunately are left to forage many times on a mono-crop which means they are not getting the natural digestive enzymes they need and in turn live less than healthy lives. It’s a big contributor to CCD. This is a natural way to help stabilize their bee gut. Definitely understand if you have hesitation. But if you keep bees in a box you are already forcing them to live an unnatural life, this is just another way we try to help them cope with the environments we put them in and expect them to survive.
Do you have a follow up on this product. Did It work or any noticeable difference?
Yes we have used this product for almost 2 years now and our colonies are strong. It’s not the only reason. But we believe it’s a good foundation and is an affordable & easy way to help with colony gut health.
Is this a product like Honey B healthy? And are they essentially similar in all aspects? (Or is it supposed to go alongside that product?)
Recently I've noticed every September I have a couple queen failures before going into winter. I think this is due to malnutrition. So I'm interested in if stuff like this actually works that will boost nutrition.
I wanted to ask if products like this and stuff like Honey B healthy will significantly affect overwintering success rates? And is that figure enough to be noticeable.
...
I also noticed you had some videos on chickens. Salutes there. I have ducks instead of chickens. But I believe overall knowledge in many areas of agriculture do give someone a significant edge in their understanding.
No it’s a dry powder that contains micronutrients and probiotics. It’s not mixed in liquid feed. It’s really to help them digest better
Thank you
