I thought AY has been charging for snacks and alcohol between the meal service for more than a decade. The only reduced/cost cutting service were the meals. The sustainable cutlery is a nice change from their plastic cutlery.
That economy cabin looks awesome.I just completed a dreadful flight with EVA boeing 777 in a 3-4-3 configuration full and cramped 17 " seats which is bearable until the passenger in front reclines his seat .Never again ! I will definitely be checking out Finnair Thanks for uploading appreciated
I think Finnair is smart. Asia was their top earner driven by business and VFR. Most of Asia is still closed. Now they do what everyone else is doing, trying to attract a lot of holiday business. The European traveler is usually looking for the best price. That's why they are bundling everything. Most people don't need an amenity kit from, let's say, Vienna to Bangkok, and if they do, they can still purchase it for an extra. Loads of travelers buy the light-fares to the US and only purchase checked bags on the inbound. Finnair gets you places, and you only pay for what you need. Also, they have great planes, cheap wifi, and good food onboard. Btw, I don't think the wooden cutlery is cost-cutting. Finnair is a very eco-conscious company, and Finland wants to become carbon neutral by 2035. That would be 15 years ahead of the EU goal. Great video!
Couldn't agree with you more Patrik (EK and QR do the same now), and I didn't know that AY is a eco-conscious company.. I learn something new everyday. BTW, you must be a fellow Flyertalk or Airliners.net member because you use the term VFR.. am I right? 😄
finnair isnt a low cost airline, and never will be. i dont really get the reasoning of your title. finnair has of course had some cuts since corona has affected the economy of finland greatly. but calling finnair a low cost airline is just absurd. ranked the fourth safest airline in the world. ive flown on AA and delta many times, and i dont see you calling those low cost. allthough their service is much more ignorant and not nearly as customer friendly. seating layout is almost always the same in the same aircraft, no matter the airline.
For me this is the Perfect video showing inside A350, the service. Well explained, I like the captions, not boring, I watched until the end. I was looking for this Finnair cuz my 1st time to fly this Jan from USA to FRA then to Thailand which is Thai airways. Great vid! Im gonna look for Thai economy vlog.
Nice video. I like Finnair - used to fly with them quite a bit pre-Covid between China and the U.K. The shorter northern route and cheap fares I found compared to other carriers was the main pull for me. I’ve also found travelling on the A350 to be a pleasant experience. Hoping to take that trip you took to Bangers soon .
Nice video report thanks. Had a couple of great flights myself with Finnair pre covid. My Thai wife flew to the UK from Bangkok with our daughter a few months ago during the covid restrictions and thought the flight was really good all things considered and that the flight crew were great. Will definitely use them in the future.
Wow so well edited, good stuff! Yeah Finnair has cut their onboard services lately, I don't mind the wooden cutlery though. More changes on the way, Finnair will introduce a new Premium Economy class soon, the project has been postboned due to the pandemic.
If you want to talk about low cost budget airlines think of the US… like American Airlines, United and Delta. Last time I was in first class on American I got basically dog food. Finnair looked amazing compared to the top three domestic carriers❤️👍✈️
@@anyazelyaeva4135 have you flown them during Covid in first class? All they give you is a box of snacks. Totally unacceptable for first class! Pure cost cutting, plain and simple.
I've flown Delta long haul economy class in the past and I was impressed! Much better than United. Then again, flying long haul (international) first class is way different from flying domestic 'first class'.
Super nice and comprehensive flight review! The A350 is such an elegant bird. Did you get any hours of sleep during the flight? I'm so pissed with the whole cost-cuting culture among most airlines nowadays. It's so sad and unfair. Really hope they will bring back soon their pre-covid standards in terms of onboard service. Nice job! :)
I recently flew with Finnair to Delhi and back. On the outward flight I definitely got the impression of a low cost carrier. I also found the seats on the A350 extremely uncomfortable. ( I was in the middle of three ). Charmless FA's. poor food. But the return flight was a whole different story. I am going to give them a second chance by returning to Delhi with them later in the year.
I would say they are just as good as i remember them most of the cut backs are gone and back to normal, in fact did just fly Finnair my self Helsinki to Delhi and back now in March 2022 just as almost all Covid-19 restrictions got lifted in India and EU all i needed now was my vaccine certificate and a passenger locator form done ready to go. Also have 3 more flights with them scheduled this year to Delhi. To me Finnair are still one of the best airlines out there for Europe Asia routes.
Flying with them in August cant wait same route. Finnair were by far the best value for the bangkok flight at time of booking ( feb 2022 ) my only concern is the 40 min changeover time in the Airport, if the flight is deleayed in Bangkok your goosed. Lol.
Hi Thanks for your review simple and to the point. Im off to Bkk in November im now having 2nd thoughts about booking with Finnair. Yes kind of low cost. Cmon chagring for beers or drinks and cakes its a joke. Thanks for your time. John
Also, remember that their Asian routes have been badly affected by the Russian Ukraine conflict. Their flights to Japan instead of taking 9 and half hours now take 14.
Great review Thanks for the take off shot!! I would love to fly their 359... it's a beautiful livery The war in Ukraine has been more difficult for them in losing over fly rights... Yeah the buy on board is interesting tho.
hi there, great review! I will be flying to London with Finn via Singapore soon... a question about the menu, was it possible to request a specific meal pre-flight?
Hello and thanks! Yes that’s possible, if you have specific dietary requirements then you can select a meal (halal or kosher for example) on the manage my booking page on the Finnair website.
Considering the jump in air fares Finnair are very reasonably priced for economy plus compared to our usual carrier ( Ethiad/Emirates). Plus the stopovers are reasonable and we dont have to enter certain countries I disagree with for stopovers.
There is an option to order a vegetarian meal in advance, you have to login with your booking reference on the Finnair website (manage my booking) and there you can select the vegetarian meal option.
No menu = understandable. Wooden cutlery = understandable (sustainable too! - plus point). Other airlines like Qantas etc also charge for extra food, it doesn’t make them LCC. We shouldn’t expect much premium from these airlines, as this pandemic also don’t allow them to, in all fairness.
Have to remind... those little things.. everything has to be light weight. That's why everything extra costs alot. Have to understand basics. Fuel is expensive and need find a way how to make flying more greener. Plastic replaced to wood. Waste going for recycled or energy
Finnair actually uses low-cost carrier system even on these long hauls though, its not bad, but it is annoying when you try to compare prices. Finnair seems so cheap at first sight, only for you to realize that price does not include checked in baggage
Great video. I have never flown on Finnair, the flight I would like to go on is TKY-HEL. Nevertheless, I agree, wooden cutlery, cardboard boxes very annoying. I always fly business, I hope they do not use those products in that section. Finally, great to see you up in the air again.
finnair was already cutting cost before covid-19 came , food was cut down to half portions and no free booze, the hell with finnair ...i'm flying swiss.
I flew the same route in their so called Premium Economy and can truly tell you there’s really nothing "premium" about this. Besides a little more legroom, free headphones and a small amenity kit, it’s just like the basic Eco product. Food was miserable, they didn’t even offer everything that was on the menu and had no explanation for that. No complimentary alcoholic drinks as well, everything had to be paid for. Crew was rude and showed no interest in customers. Didn’t see a single smile throughout two long haul flights. I get they are turning into a budget carrier and the price was reasonably low, nevertheless their price performance ratio is just disappointing. I’ll definitely switch back to Middle East carriers again when going to south east Asia.
Seat 55A (I said 55L in the video which is incorrect) has an overhead power socket which intended for medical use. This is only on the Finnair's A350 v1 (so cabin version 1).

Wait until you need to fly them 4 times a week... yes Finnair is cost cutting to the extreme. But this is not really what your video is showing. You would likely be very much surprised if you would take this same flight again today. The way how Finnair does it is by removing a few little things, one by one.
