  • Diana Elder, AG answers the question, "how do I paint AncestryDNA ethnicity inheritance in DNA Painter?" She discusses the Ancestry Sideview technology and the ability to view the ethnicity estimate as a chromosome painting. Then, to compare with other matches and their segments in a chromosome map at DNA Painter, she demonstrates how to add the segments from Ancestry to a DNA Painter tool called "AncestryDNA Chromosome Painter Segments," available at dnapainter.com/tools/acps. Learn how Diana compared her Danish segments to known descendants of her Danish great-grandmother using this method.

How come I don't see "Matches split by parents" or "Chromosome painter" in my results? Is the feature still rolling out?

If you don't have enough close matches, Ancestry won't be able to assign matches to a paternal or maternal side. With more matches, perhaps with the next update, you'll be able to see these features.
