I like how your videos are short and go straight to the point. Writing a literature review seemed very complicated, but you simplified it very well . Thank you so much.
Recap! Intro: State focus and purpose, restate research question, emphasize timeliness of topic, and highlight gaps in study Body: Divide into subsections! 1. Summarize and synthesize: Give main overview of main points and combine sources to make overall point; recognize similarities and differences; illustrate a trend. 2. Analyze and interpret: Add your own interpretation, discuss significance of findings in relation to literature as a whole; come to your own conclusions. 3. Critically evaluate: Identify strengths and weaknesses in sources. 4. Structured paragraphs: Should be cohesive; use transitions and topic sentences to connect paragraphs. Conclusion: Show how your research addresses gaps and contributes knowledge.
4 TIPS for Writing a Literature Review's Intro, Body & Conclusion 1. Introduction (focus, purpose) Restate your research question Emphasize the timeliness of the topic (e.g. “many studies have focused on the problem x) Highlight a gap in the literature (e.g. “while there has been much research on X, few on Y) 2. Body (put into subsections, subheadings) 4 tips: (1) Summarize (give an overview of the main points) & synthesize (combine sources to make an overall point, show the similarities and differences) (2) Analyze & interpret (add your own interpretation and discuss the significance of findings as a whole, e.g. “Throughout the literature (analyze), there is consistent evidence that… (interpret)) (3) Critically evaluate (identify the strengths and weaknesses) (4) Structured paragraphs (use transitions and topic sentences to draw connections, comparisons and contrasts) 3. Conclusion (sum up the main takeaway of your literature review) - Show how your research addresses gaps and contributes new knowledge (Research paper) - Summarize major findings and implications, make suggestions for future research (SAP)
@@ensa8783 hey any idea how to talk about your own points while wrting a literature review , I am a bit confused with where am I exactly suppose to talk about my view should it be source by source or should it be altogether ?
@@basemenam8901 hi, you should find general themes and synthesize them together in your sources. Such as, author a,b,c say this, while authors d and e say this. Start with your theme, state what the authors say, and then state why it is important to your review of the literature (this is where you put your opinion).

Currently about to start writing my 16k dissertation due in January. I have been so confused by it all since teaching but these videos has taught me so much. Thank you
Hi! I'm a freshman in college rn and this really helped me because I am in an asynchronous english class, so I basically have to figure stuff out mostly by myself. This really helped clear up some confusion, Thanks!
Ugh. I feel so intimidated by the amount of research I have to do that I just don't have the will to start it. Thank you so much for these tutorials, I feel a bit more hopeful now. Subscribed
Of all the RUclips videos I've seen on this topic, yours is the best! Concise, clear and simple, actionable, and illustrations make this series easy to follow along. Great job! And the comment section provided great notes also!
Best video, short and sweet. makes you wanna watch more because its not long and boring. Before watching i did not understand what Literature review was. I wrote bunch of scarry things on my report hahaha. but now im going to fix it, I now know what to do and all thanks to you. Much appreciated
This looks so easy, our teacher has given us a book that adds a lot of steps like writing it since three areas of research that includes more steps. I don't know how many literature reviews I have to do, three or one
Nice and clear, I will show this to my students. They have been asking me to do feedback and commentary of examples of literature reviews so I have made some for them and now made them accessible on youtube
Thank you, Jessica, I was looking for ways to escape the Literature Review because it was challenging for me. However, I successfully went for it after watching your video.
Thank you so much Jess! This is my understanding of a stand-alone LR from your video. (What will you gain from the literature review/what new insight will you draw from literature review.) Main body 1, Summarise + synthesise ('The main point of a theme from one author supported by points from the other authors.') 2, Analyse + interpret (Your interpretation and the statement of significance of information to the whole literature) 3, Critical evaluations (Your own opinion regarding the usefulness of sources and to addressing the gaps of research) Conclusion 1, Summarise the major findings and the implications. 2, Suggestion for future research
