I can't believe I never saw this when it was on. I must have been on holiday, cos this is fab. Sparks, Noel Edmunds, Billy Idol, Amii Stewart & Lorraine Chase...(tacky disco? You gotta love her but just what she was doing in those years when she should have been going to school just beggars me). Russell politely saying they'd been reassessing their future while they'd been away was a shame when really they'd been busy releasing another two of their best albums in that time. 'Big Beat' & 'Introducing Sparks' never got the exposure they deserved. Radio here couldn't cope with a band changing their sound so much. At least they came back to the top 10 with this Moroder collaboration and the UK took proper notice again.
Except they didn't as the subsequent album didn't rise higher than No.73! Despite the fact 2 huge hits were on it, and 'La Dolce Vita' didn't even get a re-release to follow the hits. For me, Sparks became truly great from 1979 onwards; I'm not a great fan of their 70s album.
@@kyachdistent1301 To me, their first albums Sparks (Half nelson) and A Woofer In Tweeter's Clothing were excellent, followed by Kimono My House, Propaganda and Indiscreet. Too ahead of their time for some perhaps - they didn't fit in with 'Pop' easily as they are so original. They were a breath of fresh air and still are.
The horror of Jimmy Savile is such that he obscures the fact that Noel Edmonds looks like a physics teacher who's just back from trainee day at the local hairdressers.
They voted it a miss cos they likely didn't like it. Fair point, and it's fun, but not great at all. And it was only massive as stupid things often are.
And wasn't scared about having a hairy chest, until society got to where it has been for the past 15 years at least. Now he's old and running scared with all of them at any age group.
I bet it must have irked the Mael Brothers no end to have to appear on this sort of awkward, tawdry rubbish - Beat The Clock was so much better than that!
If I had been Jimmy Saville, secretly doing bad things, but otherwise doing a few good things, like clunk click, jim'll fix it and top of the pops, I would want to wake up to myself, and say "I am in danger of throwing it all away".
TV was a bit more "staccato" back then. It was edited "live" (vision-mixed) so there were more vacant pauses and "ums" and "errs" that would be taken out today.
OMG Iam in the audience
Don’t shake Savile’s hand Ron, you don’t know where it’s been😮
I remember Sparks Beat the Clock getting loads of UK radio airplay in 1979.
i wonder why they had to go to ... 1:10
Savile was hoping for "Young Girls"
And 'Noisy Boys' (but quietly once the doors were opened).

Ugh, imagine having to live with the memory of having touched Jimmy Savile's hand. 🤮

Cute Russell....
When I was born a little premature. Love Sparks ❤
Amii Stewart looks so good.
They voted flying lizards a miss,,,,money that’s what I want,,,it was massive. Great tune.

Young Billy had good ears.

@@kyachdistent1301 you seem to have dementia
If you listen carefully to some of Billy Idol's songs, you can detect some funky and danceable elements. So this is no surprise.
Billy Idol & Russell Mael-what more could anyone want???????
Damit habe ich einen DJ, in meiner Stammdisco, überrascht - die Fläche war voll - juchhai
As the legend Jimmy Savile said, "A goodly sound."
Savile was the first DJ in the world to use twin turntables for continuous music.
Also the first DJ to use both hands simultaneously for groping the kiddies...
He was very partial to twins but as you say he was the man who invented the concept of the Discotheque.
Jimmy Saville certainly was a legend but for the wrong reasons
whatever happened to jimmy saville
He burns in hell!
Sadly… he snuffed it before he could be convicted thus missing out on doing jail time for being a sick child abusing, necrophilic.
He got a full house and then cashed in his chips.
He became besties with King Charles. Sort of an uncle to Prince Andrew
Hopefully burning in Hell.
Saville ! This should be taken down. He should never be seen again ! Even in Death
Lord Billiam of Idol!
I bet it must have irked the Mael Brothers no end to have to appear on this sort of awkward, tawdry rubbish - Beat The Clock was so much better than that!
Ron trotted out his full gallery of terrifying expressions for this one.
Yeah, but the best people often have to slum it on shows like this!
“Billy Idol gets it!”
Pity his career didn't and doesn't.
@@kyachdistent1301 he's still massive in the US

Glad to hear Jimmy Savile enjoys one of my favorite songs
In spite of his awful extracurricular activities, he was still a DJ
You should chop off the first ten seconds of this video, so you don't lose viewers like me who switch off the SECOND they see Jimmy Savile.
Was that Lorraine Chase????
Luton Airport.
*typical essex girl* huh
Who’s the Black bird?
Watch out for Savilles wondering hands !
Amii Stewart (Knock On Wood/Friends etc.)
The beautiful and talented Amie Stewart .
Amii Stewart
Why is everything so awkward about this show lol
