Even if there were a constitutional impediment to legislating the removal of a SCOTUS "Justice", Congress still can and should legislate a sanction involving suspension from all cases upon conviction of violating the statutory obligation to recuse oneself from any case in which the Justice has a personal conflict of interest (something Thomas has pretty clearly done). Recusal is not the same as a resignation. Recusal is specific to certain cases and investigations - not a wholesale ban from interference. Thomas should be resigning from this - it's clear that his already shaky claim to unbiased judgement is completely compromised at this point.

I am old enough to remember Justice Thomas's hearings before Congress. He's had 30 plus years on the court now, so in light of this latest which proves his bias and poor judgement, its now past time for him to leave the court. Now. or both of them can endure subpoenas, investigations and if needed, arrests in full sunlight? Justices need to follow the exiting rules all other judges in our country follow, at the least. If they cannot do that themselves, then time to go or us to set up laws for the court.

I have thought about this too and it is the first reaction to so much wrong doing and so many US reps who put party and self interest before country, however I now think that we would be throwing the baby out with the bath water as some really great legislators take a time to learn the job itself and we need people of distinction and experience in congress otherwise a lot of time would be wasted with almost half of reps not knowing where the bathroom is the first term!
What is actually needed is reform at the party level where candidates are chosen. Why don't older people who have served with distinction like Nancy Pelosi ever seem to know when their time is up and when they should be helping bring on the next generation of politicians It seems that there is such a lack of humility amongst older reps from both sides. Why would any sane person imagine that they are up to such a grueling job aged 80 and more ? But that also has something to do with Americans and why they only trust ancient old birds.

But it's still within Congress's remit to actually legislate sanctions for violating the laws it puts on the books (including the particular provision of the federal statute that supposedly applies to "Justices" in general - which doesn’t as it happens actually include any sanctions at the present time...)
Even if there were a constitutional impediment to legislating the removal of a SCOTUS "Justice", Congress still can and should legislate a sanction involving suspension from all cases upon conviction of violating the statutory obligation to recuse oneself from any case in which the Justice has a personal conflict of interest (something Thomas has pretty clearly done).
Let's see Mitch refuse to go along with THAT (and let's see if SCOTUS itself dares strike such a sanction down...)

How can he call Justice Thomas "exemplary" with a straight face? I've often spoke of term limits, but I agree with a commenter here that that's not the answer either. What we need are stricter ethics standards for anyone wishing to go into politics. Today's Reps and Senators are allowed to say and do anything they want, no matter if it's lies, no matter if it hurts an entire group of people, no matter if it instigates violence, no matter if it borders on insurrection/treason. THAT is what needs to change. Our last president had no morals whatsoever, and his example gave permission for others to behave like him. There should be clear-cut moral principles and "rules of conduct" for politicians, and especially for the President and his cabinet, and clear-cut harsh consequences for those who break the rules. Our Constitutional amendment that gives us free speech should not be an excuse for bad behavior and trash-mouth that I hear from our Congress these days.

I am old enough to remember Justice Thomas's hearings before Congress. He's had 30 plus years on the court now, so in light of this latest which proves his bias and poor judgement, its now past time for him to leave the court. Now. or both of them can endure subpoenas, investigations and if needed, arrests in full sunlight? Justices need to follow the exiting rules all other judges in our country follow, at the least. If they cannot do that themselves, then time to go or us to set up laws for the court.
Perhaps when SCJ reach the age of 70 there should be mandatory retirement. Just a suggestion.

There was a worse blow dealt to Democracy that went to the SCOTUS were Gini was involved. Her group, "Liberty Central" was the spearhead to passing "Citizens United", basically coding into law the ability of Oligarchs to buy politicians. Thomas didn't recuse himself then either.
When seen in it's totality, I'm sure Mrs. Thomas brings in far more income as a lobbyist than Clarence's paltry govt. pay. Thomas voted his pocketbook, rather than recuse himself (which seems to have been the only correct course}.
and Judge Roberts Must Have Known what this meant.
