When the 'massive wanker' walks out of the elevator and Tim falls backwards on the floor is from Terminator 2. There are so many in the show it would be hard to get them all. Great job though!
When Mike comes out of the bathroom in the Pulp Fiction bit, he's holding a copy of Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, a seminal piece of gay (or to be more precise lesbian in this case) literature - there's a lot of hints that Mike is either gay or questioning his sexuality in the show.
Just started this series myself and many do I adore it. Something I realized from this video too's not only just how many references there are in the show, but also that they're woven into the script and presentation in such a way where you'll get a good chuckle if you get the reference, and even if you don't it's still an entertaining exchange/payoff/etc. Just another reason to love Edgar Wright's work more than I already do.
“At last, I will emerge as the victor. At last, I will have... revenge.”.......Duane says this in the episode called gone when he steals tims house keys...which is a phantom menace ref, darth maul says the exact same line...and Duane is played by Peter Serafinowicz who is the voice of darth maul :)
@@hmatomet52Tim hating phantom menace doesn’t have much to do with Duane, it’s more to do with Simon Pegg’s own distaste for it in real life. Tim’s sentiment reflected what nearly all moviegoers his age felt when watching phantom menace when it first came out.
Bwahaha, Kevin Eldon and Mark Gatiss as Matrix agents... haven't seen that one, I really need to watch Spaced again, it's been ages. Funny story... I was channel surfing once, and I saw Spaced was on. I decided not to watch it, because I wanted to watch it from the start. When I finally *did* watch it, I realised that the bit I'd seen was literally 3 seconds into the first episode :P
also, a great reference is the American Werewolf in London reference in Ep.5 S.1 at the end of the ep where the rich guy gets attacked by the dog but says the same line as in the film when the business man is being hunted by the werewolf in the london tube!
ALSO also, same episode when they're planning to rescue Colin by climbing a 2 meter fence and Brian says it's impossible and Mike interrupts him and says it isn't, it's a New Hope reference about the deathstar plans meeting and the 'womprats' line! 2 for 2 baby!!
There's one from taxi driver when they go to the editor's to retrieve the drawing, when mike tells the doorman he'd like to be one too. It's very subtle, almost missed it too.
You missed a reference to Phantom Menace when Dwayne Benzie (played by Peter Serafinowicz) says "I will have my revenge" which is a line said by Darth Maul (played by none other than Peter Serafinowicz) - so meta. Love this show
Such a massive coup to get Sixth Sense star Olivia Williams to star in the Sixth Sense homage. I believe she was friends with Katy 'Twist' Carmichael, though.
Edgar Wright always felt like a director who actually kept up with modern cinema, he always watched new stuff, never once got bogged own in a specific era , even to this day.
Just found another one (this is a fun game, finding references). When Mike comes out of the pub toilets, holding the (literal) pink pistol that he has just been pointing at the porcelain firing range, he says to the Agents "Say hello to my little friend" ("Scarface" reference!).
To jump on the bandwagon…they missed a The Abyss reference. Tim’s shaking hand during the dog rescue, referencing the Navy Seal’s shaking hand due to the bends.
Without doubt one of the cleverest sit coms to have come out in decades. Oh, and I'm sure some you fans out there will be able to help me identify another reference. Mike standing in a doorway waving a bottle of wine.( at Marsha, I seem to recall.) I don't know what from, but it just seems it has to be a reference to something. I have a strange feeling it's from a title or end sequence from a classic US comedy. But just can't place it.
There was also a scene where Daisy made a chicken stew with what she believed was oregano when it was really Marijuana which I assume was supposed to reference the scene in a very Brady Sequel where Alice put mushrooms in Trevor's spaghetti because you know she didn't think they were kind of mushrooms
Another missing reference: in the start of the second to last episode of the second series (now that sounded a bit convoluted, right?): the eerie sound effects in the smash cut-editing of the sequence of photographs (you know, intercalating everyone in the pub v. Brian noticing the sinister overtones of their respective revelations in his studio), well, it's a a clear reference to the beggining of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre,' isn't it? I mean, the sounds are exactly the same, and the editing is somewhat reminiscent.
Though it’s not listed on the Homage-Ometer, there is a line from Marcia to Brian when they set off to rescue Colin from the animal testing lab. “Come back in one piece. I think you know which piece I mean…” Highlander?
Groovy came from evil dead 2 I never would of guessed that like Iam a bloody idiot like I’ve been on another planet and don’t know pop culture reference lol
Check out Spaced episode 1 RIGHT HERE on RUclips -> bit.ly/2NhqGxO
a tip : you can watch series at flixzone. Been using it for watching loads of movies these days.
@Roland Eli yup, have been using Flixzone for since december myself :)
Words can not express my love of Spaced.
Edgar wright really just went and started with his best work
the "Groovy" line is a reference to Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II film
Thought it was Duke Nukem
@@sponge260 thats also a reference to evil dead 2
@@sponge260 almost all of Duke's quotes are pulled from the Evil Dead series (among other action movies). He has very few unique lines
They missed the moment when Tim is surprised in front of the Evil Dead 2 poster and mimics a pose from the movie.
The greatest sitcom in my opinion, I binged watched it recently and it's still as fresh and laugh out loudable as when it came out.
When the 'massive wanker' walks out of the elevator and Tim falls backwards on the floor is from Terminator 2. There are so many in the show it would be hard to get them all. Great job though!
You forgot probably the most spot on reference
Scooby Doo appears countless times
There's also another one from The Shining when they get locked out and look like Jack Nicholson frozen in the maze
f mannington “I’m co-old”

Is that why Nick Frost became a bit of a gay icon?
He sure is gay and they are in loveeee

Groovy! I'm also enjoying the Ash Vs Evil Dead series 1 & 2.
wow so many references that went over my head
The Pulp Fiction reference still gets me. I love how much it is like the actual scene
Tarantino and Wright are big fans of each other.
I absolutely loved Baby Driver but I'd really like to see another Pegg and Frost movie by Edgar Wright.
1:49 "My stepdad was a nice guy!" *Screams* "Timmy boy!"
Love that part!
Keith Allen playing Jack I believe.
There's a PLATOON reference in the "unspoken male telepathy/'gun' fight" episode when "Adagio for Strings" plays over everyone "dying".
'I think we should lose the axe'
'I like the axe'
'I like my face'
'I like your face'
'let's keep the axe'

@@dvnam Shhhhhh! Don't cheapen this,
In the 'Robocop' section the noise as the robot powers down is the sound that ORAC makes in Blake's Seven.
Spaced is one of the underated series
Who puts half a magnum in the freezer?!! That's PSYCHOTIC 😂😂
Nick's "A Lady" delivery cracks me up. Also, Oliver's identical delivery of her line works so well.

Cool. Now I know where to turn to fill in the gaps in my list of must-see films!
Such a massive coup to get Sixth Sense star Olivia Williams to star in the Sixth Sense homage. I believe she was friends with Katy 'Twist' Carmichael, though.
It's funny how there's a 'Don't Look Now' reference as Edgar Wright said that's one of the main inspirations behind his upcoming horror film
"Did it take you long?"
"Yes. It took forever. And ever. And ever"
...
"It's bob-a-job week"
Yeah, they cut that clip short and missed the best part.
About time they made a Spaced movie I reckon.
There needs to be more spaced....Where's the cast when you need them
Edgar Wright always felt like a director who actually kept up with modern cinema, he always watched new stuff, never once got bogged own in a specific era , even to this day.
there was also a quick reservoir dogs one I think in season 1 when Mike & Tim were fighting
I remember watching the Empire Strikes Back reference as it happened, and thinking "Where have I-". Genius TV.
Honestly one of my favourite TV moments ever, ruined live by the channel 4 announcer talking over John Williams epic score
Holy grail of Nerdistry
Loved that show....
7:23 Chewbacca. just killed me :)
Also another shining one I think in the first episode when they say. "it's perfect for a child." could be a stretch but wouldn't surprise me.
Also missed a Phantom Menace reference, which is quite ironic :p. Really nice vid anyway.
They missed the other Close Encounters Of The Third Kind reference with the mashed potato mountain.

Tony Way is in the housewarming party sequence!
first reference had 2 refrences, straight after daisy says phantom menace wasnt that bad close up of tim the sound used was a refrence to the x files
Tim told me he had more than one friend, I didn't believe him, but here you are - it's The Village Of The Damned!
Forever a cult classic, funny, cool and I fancied Daisy!
But do you feel for Amber?
I feel for Amber!
To jump on the bandwagon…they missed a The Abyss reference. Tim’s shaking hand during the dog rescue, referencing the Navy Seal’s shaking hand due to the bends.
I thought the shaking hand was a Save Private Ryan reference? Tom Hanks just before landing?
For some reason, when the Robocop clip section ended, the Orac noise made laugh more than anything else.
Left out "Taxi Driver"
"Alright"
You missed the misery writing montage reference in episode 2
Sophie's first appearance in episode 2.4 Help looks deliberately styled on Rachael in Blade Runner.

That "Commando" reference was actually "Evil Dead II."
It was both
The Pulp Fiction one was quality 😂👏

Missed out The Lost World - 'later there's barking and biting'
Theres a Manhattan reference when daisy is writing her book
“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” was released in 1977, same year as “Star Wars”. Pedantic, I know, but I felt impelled to say it.

possible blue juice reference when mike is dancing on the podioum in the club scene
That music that starts when Daisy says she liked The Phantom Menace is from The X Files
No really I never would of figured that grooovy evil dead reference
I think you guys forgot one bit which is The Lost World: Jurassic Park one... that part where Tim argue with Daisy about his fear of dogs
This video misses quite a lot of them sadly. Got most of the big ones, though.
They forgot how groovy was an Evil dead reference
Not a movie at the time but there's a blatant A-team reference
That wasn't commando that was evil dead.
What do you call the tune that plays at the start?
Scobie doo? OK TV, but there have been films.
Te faltó la referencia a platoon
i think the commando one was an army of darkness reference.
Surely the first ref is the Phantom Menace?
What about the entire episode referencing 'Human Traffic' ?
What episode?
