Hi Julia. I cover how to use Zoom without a green screen early in the video. If you have the computer requirements, then you're good to go to use the feature without a green screen. I don't have those requirements so I also show how I have to deal with it...by using a physical green screen. Hope that helps.

I was actually stoked to see the hurdle of not having a compatible computer for no green screen being hit, as I support all these non tech users claiming they have a 'modern' machine but can't get virtual backgrounds right. Some people just assume everyone joining their Zoom call has the required hardware and then claim it is an IT issue when some participants backgrounds jank out.
As most of the others have already commented - I was also looking for help because I don't have a green screen and the virtual background was not working for me but your video did not help
Thanks Sheryl, it worked for me. I too got the notification that my computer does not support it. so I just put a green tablecloth I have and pinned it on wall behind me. Voila the virtual background shows. I dont know why all these negative comments but this is just what I was looking for
So what if she plugged what I consider to be an expensive green screen. I was really impressed with how well she explained the purpose of a green screen and how you can tell if you need one or not, and how you can make the most of one you do buy. I thought I needed one but apparently I don't.

For gosh sakes, she covers two ways to get & use a virtual background. I watched another video where the host ONLY talked about non-green screen, more recent than this one, and he gave wrong directions that I could not even find on zoom. I found this tutorial to be very helpful and I learned some new things. I notice some called the title misleading but I found everything was clearing explained. People disappointed may have thought this was some sort of hack to by pass their computer requirements when using the virtual background feature. Just to note : You can use virtual background without a greenscreen but ONY if you have the correct requirements and specifications on your computer.

If you don't have a green screen you can use Zoom's virtual background feature so long as your computer meets the minimum requirements outlined in the video. Does your computer meet them? If so, you should be good to go. I do explain both here though yes.
I found the video very helpful... with or without green screen technology. I don't have a green screen, and my computer does have the horsepower (technical jargon!) to use a virtual background without a green screen. I checked the green screen box and had a fun several minutes looking at the creepy results (my tongue sticking out of a hole that's my mouth but colored with the background image). Of course, I won't scare anybody on the other side of the call (hhhhmmm... why not?). Thanks!
Finally getting back to all this...thanks for your pointers. Trying things with Google Meet as well. I assume your are primarily working with your iPhone and a good quality webcam ?
My question would be if there was more space between you and the green screen and plenty of light as to not cast a shadow...would the edge key around your hair line still be fuzzy? The green screen you have is reviewed to not be great for web broadcast because its too small and you'll catch the open sides of it when trying to do a 16:9 wide green ratio .... Thoughts?

Yes, to be clear you can use Zoom without a green screen IF your computer meets the proper requirements. My laptop does not have a quad core. I might need to upgrade :)
Help. I created a virtual background in Canva in imported into Zoom. All of this worked fine, however when I use the background every time I more I get black blobs on the screen. Without a green screen is there any way to correct this. BTW this was a great video.

Hi Karen. If your computer doesn't meet the requirements to use Zoom without a green screen (which it sounds like is the case for you as it is with me) you will need to get a green screen to use this function on Zoom.

I was about to buy a software package that did this for my camera, but seeing I can do this internally in both Zoom and MS Teams, saved me $20. Appreciate the calibration for when a screen is used too

I admit the title seems misleading, but she actually DID show people how to change backgrounds without a green screen. The issue is for most people, people's processors. Which is just pathetic in today's day and age that zoom doesn't have a program for backgrounds that is compatible with every cpu made in last 20 yrs. I mean i bought my laptop a yr ago. It's disgusting that zoom has a feature that this wouldn't be compatible with. But again, the beginning of the tutorial shows how to get video without green screen. However, the issue is most people have gotten to that step already but there cpu does not meet requirements and desperately want a workaround because Zoom is lazy and cheap. Well, there is no workaround, and so we really have minimal options. If computers don't meet the dumb ridiculous requirements zoom purposely setup, people can either buy a green screen or forget about a decent background. I hope they become the myspace of the social networking world, and a new Zuckerberg comes in with a better and more user friendly model and leaves zoom in the dust. Cause this whole cpu does not meet requirements has me heated. Was not even a cheap laptop. Was a $650 Dell. Not the best model but one where you would hope would be compatible for a dumb zoom feature

I think that Sheryl was attempting not to insult her audience by stating the blooming obvious - it worked for me. I hadn't even heard of "Zoom" before Covid-19!!
I have used a green screen because my former computer did not have one built it. With the physical green SCREEN, the pixels were absolutely perfect. Now I have a new computer and although it does have a built-in green screen, it is less than desirable and I prefer to go back to the inconvenient physical green SCREEN. Has anyway else found this to be true and did you figure out why? Was it the quality of the computer? Or is there no way around this situation?
Great question! Sign in to the Zoom mobile app. While in a Zoom meeting, tap More in the controls. Tap Virtual Background. Tap the background you would like to apply or tap + to upload a new image. Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you.

You can use Zoom with no green screen if your computer meets the minimum requirements as outlined in the video. Does your computer meet the requirements? If so, then you follow the same steps as with a green screen (as demonstrated).

Good information! Really appreciated the tip about the mobile green screen from Elgato. I had bought a green screen with stand and it was just too big for my apartment ... and too cumbersome to put up and down. It needs to be somewhere that it can stay up for a project. The Elgato looks more practical, especially for smaller spaces.

Although, with the MAC IOS update, I am running the latest software MOJAVE 10.14.6 and has an intel core i5 processor. But Zoom doesn't seem to recognise the 10.14.6 which is more than 10.13 as the popup window on Zoom displays. The only solution is to invest in GREEN SCREEN like yours. I have found you don't need the green screen - any blank wall will work. Mine is off-white/cream colored and the virtual background works beautifully!

You need to change your title with immediate effect. I’m sure you meant to write ...WITH GREEN SCREEN. I can use virtual background WITHOUT green screen and still get the look you showed. However I am appreciative of the clear and articulate way you presented content even if title mislead me to click and watch video

I admit the title seems misleading, but she actually DID show people how to change backgrounds without a green screen. The issue is for most people, people's processors. Which is just pathetic in today's day and age that zoom doesn't have a program for backgrounds that is compatible with every cpu
made in last 20 yrs. I mean i bought my laptop a yr ago. It's disgusting that zoom has a feature that this wouldn't be compatible with.
But again, the beginning of the tutorial shows how to get video without green screen. However, the issue is most people have gotten to that step already but there cpu does not meet requirements and desperately want a workaround because Zoom is lazy and cheap. Well, there is no workaround, and so we really have minimal options. If computers don't meet the dumb ridiculous requirements zoom purposely setup, people can either buy a green screen or forget about a decent background. I hope they become the myspace of the social networking world, and a new Zuckerberg comes in with a better and more user friendly model and leaves zoom in the dust. Cause this whole cpu does not meet requirements has me heated. Was not even a cheap laptop. Was a $650 Dell. Not the best model but one where you would hope would be compatible for a dumb zoom feature
Even a 1 year old laptop doesn't do it? Hmm. Interesting. I'm considering upgrading my Macbook Pro because I'd like the option to use Zoom without green screen when I'm on location and don't have my Elgato with me. Thanks for the feedback Joey.

Wish I saw this before. I was (almost) the only one without a virtual background in the Zoom calls.
I have used a green screen because my former computer did not have one built it. With the physical green SCREEN, the pixels were absolutely perfect. Now I have a new computer and although it does have a built-in green screen, it is less than desirable and I prefer to go back to the inconvenient physical green SCREEN. Has anyway else found this to be true and did you figure out why? Was it the quality of the computer? Or is there no way around this situation?

Great question! Sign in to the Zoom mobile app. While in a Zoom meeting, tap More in the controls. Tap Virtual Background. Tap the background you would like to apply or tap + to upload a new image. Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you.

your video doesn't explain how to use with NO green screen!!! I mean the description says "without green screen " and you just explain how to use WITH it.
You can use Zoom with no green screen if your computer meets the minimum requirements as outlined in the video. Does your computer meet the requirements? If so, then you follow the same steps as with a green screen (as demonstrated).

Good information! Really appreciated the tip about the mobile green screen from Elgato. I had bought a green screen with stand and it was just too big for my apartment ... and too cumbersome to put up and down. It needs to be somewhere that it can stay up for a project. The Elgato looks more practical, especially for smaller spaces.
Helpful video for new users of Zoom, like me. Too bad the audio quality is poor... perhaps a lapel microphone could help.

Thank you for sharing amazing tips on Zoom virtual background. You certainly answered my questions where no one else articulated. Moreover, my laptop is exactly like yours. Although, with the MAC IOS update, I am running the latest software MOJAVE 10.14.6 and has an intel core i5 processor. But Zoom doesn't seem to recognise the 10.14.6 which is more than 10.13 as the popup window on Zoom displays. The only solution is to invest in GREEN SCREEN like yours. I also liked the set of your laptop and lights. Thank you again for your help, I truly appreciate it. 😊🙏🏽 🇬🇧
