She definitely dispensed with a lot of the trendy advice about lighting given by videographers that thrive from their RUclips subscribers as much as from project clients. I especially like the non-judgmental, matter of fact advice about composing yourself and being aware of bad habits many people aren't even aware they do, especially the touchy touchy stuff.
I've had a few video and graphics clients who were in hospitality - owners and managers - and they don't even know that they constantly do that 'thing' about putting a finger on their lip to wet it so they can pick up menus for arriving patrons. All. The. Time. OMFG!!!!

@It's Okay It's okay (see what I did there) to put on makeup or get botox or dye your hair. It's okay to shave your legs or tattoo your eyebrows or wax your mustache.
And it's equally ok to not to do those things if you prefer not to.
What's not okay is to shame someone for doing what makes them feel pretty. No one has to do it if they dont want to. And there are PLENTY of channels who dont.
I follow 20 women on insta who dont dye their hair.
Angie's hair is beautiful. Wish I had the time and money to do that to my hair.

    • @Lionforaday

@It's Okay I think I hear what you're saying. But aging well doesn't have to mean wearing no makeup and leaving your hair in a flop. After all, most of the women in their 20s and 30s who have "beauty vlogs" aren't going "au natural, " either, right? They're putting effort into their appearance to. So she's not doing anything any other female vlogger isn't already doing. That's how I see it.

I had a zoom interview this week with a company where I am old enough to be everyone's mom. I watched your video and it made a HUGE difference in how I looked on camera - in regards to lighting, computer position, and background. All was great advice and I felt much more confident. (and then the camera didn't work. lol) But now I know the drill for next time.

  • @Future-zx9ts
    @Future-zx9ts 4 года назад +367

Can I also add - people need to become acquainted with the “mute” and “turn off video” functions. A person should be muted unless it is relaxed environment, meeting with friends, etc. If it is an actual business meeting, if the host doesn’t mute everyone automatically, please mute yourselves. I was on a call the other evening and someone was moving around, shuffling papers and their laptop, talking to their spouse, etc, after they entered the meeting late. It was very distracting. And if you need to get up or someone comes in and you need to take your attention to them, either move your built in camera slider (if you have one) to black out your video, or click the three dots in the top right of your box and disable your video. Just some little hints that are Zoom etiquette, and make the meeting more enjoyable (or at least tolerable -lol) for others.
Thanks for the awesome video, Angie!

Angie's suggestions were great and helped me think about my home office setup in a different way. I am new to working remotely so am just now figuring out video calls, etc. I was trying not to purchase any new equipment but given that I am using a home office in our basement with very little natural light I finally gave in and purchased the ring light Angie recommended. What a game changer! This light is great - lighting is everything and I cannot believe the great difference it makes. With this light I don't feel like I need to wear as much makeup either (I am 51 years old and am just wearing a tinted primer, lip gloss, mascara, little blush and feel pretty confident Zooming while using the light). Thanks Angie for the great tips.

Looks like her upper face has been lifted as well as the neck. The cheeks typically start to sag early, around age 30, give or take. The upper face goes before the neck does. She should not be wearing that choke chain, it highlights her aging neck anatomy. Although her neck isn’t sagging, the platysmal bands are pronounced and the suprasternal notch in her lower neck is sucked in to a degree that betrays her years. There’s no fix for that. She’s beautiful but anyone who can’t see her age or is shocked to hear it just doesn’t know what to look for or what modern surgery and injections can do for an aging face. She looks beautiful but it takes effort and know how to maintain. Jane Fonda is 82. Look at her.

Angie, as a professional photographer/videographer your tips were spot on. A tip I use often is cut pieces of an old shower curtain to drape over or in front of your light source. This acts as a poor persons diffuser and will soften light if it's too harsh. A large square of black felt can be placed on your desk or near the surface of your light source to kill reflected light that may make your skin look washed out. If you buy a dimmer switch from the hardware store to put between your lights plug and the wall socket you can adjust the lights brightness. Lastly, your video looks really professional but you never showed us the setup you use for the actual money shot - Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks, beautiful video.

Great tips. I would add, concerning camera angles, keep the tilt angle subtle. Looking up, or, looking down, more than just a little, can transmit a subordinate, or, a dominate mental image. Think of it as either looking down your nose at someone, or looking up to someone. It's a subconscious thing, but, it could very well affect the way others in the meeting perceive you. For business type meetings, especially, this can be a factor.

    • @EffectiveRemoteRelationships

Absolutely! And remember - look at the camera! If you look at the people's faces on the screen all the time, you can come across as unconfident, shy, untrustworthy, disinterested, or arrogant, domineering and dismissive.

Thank you for this! I’ve heard that advice on flattering lighting many times, but actually seeing examples of good, bad, and so-so lighting (and how to tell) actually made it make sense!
Two more hair tips: A headset microphone is great for hiding flat hair, especially if you get a padded one. (It’s basically a headband, but does not make me look 12.). Also, if you’re going to put your hair up, topknots or side buns/ponies look better than styles that hide your hair on the back of your head like regular ponies or French twists.
Also: taking these steps really helps give a good impression, but at the end of the day everyone else is just as worried about how they look to you!

I'm glad collagen was mentioned here. I have been using it for 3 years now, but in the recent weeks, had not remembered to fill up my smaller container, and simply hadn't been using it. I am remedying that right away! I had started with bone broth, which really is a helpful and healing thing, but moved to collagen because it is easier, both for storage and for use. Bone broth is wonderful, but having a cup of broth every day isn't always desirable, particularly in the summer, we're College in can be mixed into pretty much any non carbonated beverage. But both collagen and bone broth are wonderful for the skin, the joints, and just general overall good health. I will also recommend trying the phytoceramides. They help moisturize from the inside out.
