On my 3rd Dodge/Ram diesel. 1999 - 2500, 2005 - 3500 dually, 2017 - 3500 dually limited with aisin. Interested to see how the 2025 Ram diesels turn out but don't know if I want to buy another Ram due to their BS. Need to trade my Tahoe, another Tahoe, Denali or Escalade is out of the question until GM resolves the engine problems. I like the GM 2500 with duramax but with the trans issues, that's a headache waiting to happen. Supposably they fixed the trans issue on the 2025 models. Never owned a Ford but the new Ford F250 are cool, leery about a Ford with the electrical problems along with other problems and Ford having the highest warranty and recall issues, makes me shy away from Ford. Now days, seems like with all 3 HD brands, you spend close to $100k and just hope for the best!
The 99 Dodge was my first diesel, $42k new, 2500 LB 4x4. Other than servicing, a wrench wasn't put on it until around 140k miles when the fuel pump went out, front wheel bearings around 165k miles. Traded it at 251k miles with no other issues. And, that truck had a GN horse trailer, 16' equipment trailer or bass boat behind it about 75% of its miles with me. it's the first time since 2016 i have actually been interested in any new designed truck of any brand. Ram has finally got my attention with the new 2025.
What about the lifter issue I felt like I’d put a few miles on the ram and one day when I’m pulling my rig it will blow up right out of warranty but I won’t work the trucks like you do Overall reliability only for grocery getters that pull a beefy fifth wheel they live in full time still go with ford? You were a factor in my decision based on your personal experience with these trucks if it means anything I appreciate the free solid real information it’s hard to get because none of the dudes like me maintain their shit right so can’t take their word on these topics
I'm coming from a late model 1500 silverado with IFS to an alumaduty F350 with solid front axle. I don't really experience a rougher ride at all. The Ford is actually more comfortable considering i have a 176 in wheelbase. I think the driver seat also has alot to do with it too.
Paul, I know you said the 22 Rams killed you. What’s your experience with the 19 Rams? I bought one back in the summer with 78k miles. It’s been fine so far 😬
You can get a 2025 Ram for the same price as the 24 Ford equivalents so I’m probably going with Ram to buy a new dually. You can get a ZF trans if you get the diesel and it’s awesome they removed the high output option in the 25’s. Ford still using the CP4 pump is a good enough reason not to buy a diesel from them.
Ram removed the Standard Output, not the High Output. According to Ram website, all HD trucks come with HO as the only other option (6.4 Hemi is standard). This includes the 2500s. They also get 430hp - 1075tq HO. I have 2 1500s and 2 3500 4x4 dually's, one 3500 with 600k on the clock. Replaced 2 alternators, 1 hpfp, 2nd set of injectors, 2 water pumps, and 2 #5 injector lines. Oh...and the oil cooler gasket. Haven't had to touch anything else. (Did have trans bullet proofed at 80k and haven't touched it other than the occasional servicing) 2000 Dodge 1500 Laramie 2x 5.2 magnum 217k 2006 3500 4x4 Laramie Crew cab 5.9 Cummins, 600k 2021 Ram 3500 4x4 longhorn limited crew cab, 6.7 HO 80k 2022 Ram 1500 tradesman 4x4 crew cab 5.7 Hemi 113k
NO WAY I’d be going with a ‘25 Ram Cummins. I don’t doubt the zf trans so much, but the “cp 8” that looks a whole lot like a cp4, and all of the other changes… I’d be letting other people finish Ram’s beta testing.
@@JustAverageJeff 🤷♂️ the first attempt at a cp4 was a “Cummins” upgrade. The grid heater bolt, that everyone has began to panic about, is a Cummins thing. The upgraded electronic architecture is a Ram thing, as is the integration between the engine and transmission. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t want to be a beta tester for their updates, regardless of whether it’s Ram, Cummins or anyone else.

Ford denied the claim, only had 290 miles on the truck with no mods. Still battling it out and truck has been sitting at dealer since November 2nd. Ford is awful
Oh man!! Sorry to hear that!!! The more I hear stories like yours, the more I believe these auto manufacturers are related to our corrupt government!!! No accountability!!!!
The Ford Power Stroke is a nightmare to service and repair. The engine simply fills the entire engine bay from fender to fender. Ford made the mistake of building a V8 instead of a I6. With that you create a myriad of space issues to fit a large turbo and emissions equipment. Sure they managed to cramming it all there, but at a cost of difficult and expensive service and repair costs. How many items have to be removed to get to another part? Are they replacing seals/gaskets they disturb or just hoping it just goes back together ok? The 10 speed seems to be hit or miss on reliability. Ford standing by their product and fixing obvious manufacturing defects seems to an ongoing problem too. Look up Ford 10 speed transmission problems and you will blow up your search results. Sure the PS has big numbers and refinements, but at such a big cost of purchase and ownership you better really have a big towing need.
Paul we know u live rams buy pls keep the ford so we can have a guy who knows his stuff about trucks and review this superduty and let us know how it does at high milage please!!!

My company 2022 f350 6.7 has been fine. Never had a CEL, def use isn’t bad, at least not nearly as bad as people are complaining about the newer ones. Power is great, towing or empty. Trans gets a little confused every so often, mostly hanging in a lower gear longer than necessary when towing sometimes. Exhaust brake is quite weak, definitely no comparison to the one in my ‘17 Cummins Ram with manual trans. You can kind of feel it doing something (on the ford) if you manually downshift, even in tow/haul mode. Wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me, but I don’t tow very heavy often & no mountains where I do. Only problem I have is the pass side power lock has quit working. Think it’s going to be a simple fix, just haven’t had time to get it in. I’d definitely look into an extended warranty from granger, flood or Ziegler.
Paul: I know you have a long term well based Ram love affair. I'm seeing more people having more problems with Cummins as their miles increased, just as you experienced. I hope those problems are now solved, but I would wait two years on Cummins to see if the fixes prove themselves worthy of your money. Bottom line, stick with Ford in 2025 and 2026.
