hey thanks for putting this up. this is the dead i wish everyone understood. seeing those little kids dancing and everyone united through the music is just what makes the dead so special for me
Those two children dancing say everything you need to know about the Dead and their ability to transcend music into joy for anyone at any age. Just a joyous swirling mix of melodies and rhythm. Thank you for all your wonderful music.
Utter musical genius across the entire stage. Thank you boys! The world is so much brighter because we shared this, and because we still can. Why are we so lucky?
Anything less than five stars is unacceptable. This one still gives me chills. My favorite China bridge into Rider ever, can't find one better than this.
One solid, beautiful groove. Slip on the headphones, folks, and take flight. The three gunslingers, if you have to ask what made the Dead so special, here you go.
Finally, I'd like to extend my thanks to friscobay01 for posting this. It really is at true example of the dead, and, along with the 8-27-72 Dark Star from Sunshine Daydream that somebody put up here, is one of my favorite videos on youtube. Well done for keeping the Dead alive!! (pun intended) oh, and by the way, I Know You Rider isn't their song... just kidding.
I know, i wasn't saying that it was any worse for being a cover. I was just saying that the song itself was not written. I love the dead's covers, and although in their entire body of work I would have to say I enjoy (for the most part) the songs that they write, luckily, we don't have to make that choice. I'm a bird song man myself, especially 6-22-73. And who could resist the classic 9-11-74 Eyes. And, in terms of China->Riders, I love the Without a Net version. Brent just rocks the keys...
Heya. Close, actually the four chord progression that is in the middle section between China and Rider is typically called the Mind Left Body Jam. Apparently it's in reference to a Paul Kantner song (more in title than in tune). Agreed, the place was rockin' for sure. I particularly like the momentum around 6:29.
this the tried and true grateful dead.i mean a week in winterland in 1974 as the saying goes ''it does not get any better than this'' i just came from a phone call i'm just tryin' to get my space together.15 minute china cat>rider pretty much smoke
you got me there man, i guess i need to beef up on my allmans knowledge. i'm pretty sure the allmans played with them that show though. the third set, with the dylan covers.
this is my favorite version of china/rider. i have never heard another show ever played like this one. anyone know of one? this is when jerry was in his prime, imo
+Jared Paul in mi opinion, the version in Boston Gardens 1974 (Dicks picks 12) has a somehow better china rider. But Yeah, this can be the best china rider recorded in video.
My mom was a dead head not hard core follow them around to every show but still a dead head Ive been fed this music I still don't understand the huge following theyre godly but why don't bands like zeppelin with jimmy page who is the guitar god have a following like this.
I love the Dead so Dead Heads stay chill and love don't be mean this is a comment of celebration im just pointing out something I think is wierd. Why dont any other bands have a following like Zeppelin and The Allman Bros. Anyway amazing performance I wish I was there I saw Jerry and the band 4 times before he died this is when I was 1 and 2 though RIP Jerry
guys, you misunderstand me. I was just noting that it's not their song. I'm a huge deadhead, although I'm too young to have seen them, I ahve a pretty impressive collection on my XHD, and would love to trade with anyone. Specifically, 72-74. But thats a different note. I'm sorry that you guys thought I was trying to be argumentative or whatever, but it was just an observation. I mean, look at NFA-GDRFB. Two covers, yet, as you said, they ended up owning it. btw, check out 6-10-73, with duane.
clintonstick: Isn't it funny! It's so amazingly easy to distinguish the intelligent people on RUclips from those whose mission if life it is to harass the rest of us. You don't even know who Jerry was. He was a great man; a man of substance. Worst of all, everyone can find out who you really are by Googling your name and finding your scathing RUclips comments. Jerry would not approve.
Does anyone know which night this particular performance is from? I have a few of those nights but can't seem to locate the one with this awesome version.
when i die i'll be here no more scatter my ashes down by that golden shore yes, i'll be missed but i won't be sore because i won't have to listen to brianm1314
One of the best jams between China and Rider ever. Pretty much flawless. A+

How sweet is this. Good music, and the kids are having a good time.
There's something so beautiful about those dancing children. The picture of pure joy. This stuff is timeless and ageless.
Utter musical genius across the entire stage. Thank you boys! The world is so much brighter because we shared this, and because we still can. Why are we so lucky?
two of their best songs delivered at the top of their game
Super China/Ride! Very crisp, tight and clear! Plus, the ever trippy sounds that come off that stage!! Yaaahhhhoooooo!!
Thank you Frisco!!
Anything less than five stars is unacceptable. This one still gives me chills. My favorite China bridge into Rider ever, can't find one better than this.
Watching this video makes my day. This is the best China > Rider I have ever heard. Long live the GD!
Bobby is playing one of his finest licks in this song. Man, do I like this performance.
time to take a break from reality and groove on the music tks for posting!!!
What a China/Rider its mesmerizing..wish I could go see Jerry play right now. Love Ya Papa Jerry
One solid, beautiful groove. Slip on the headphones, folks, and take flight. The three gunslingers, if you have to ask what made the Dead so special, here you go.
My favorite China/Rider. The Dead at the absolute peak of their powers. They were untouchable in ‘74. IMO their best year.
Living in the San Francisco Bay Area for my entire life, I can't tell you how much this means to me...
I really love bobbys solo here, so melodic. And Phil is really ON tonight, wow hes rocking. Overall performance is awesome, as usual.
thank, great vid...uplifting for this rainy cold morning.
I wonder what happened to the kids dancing on the podium! They must be...47, 48 today, have children and who knows, grand children!
...but still, such fabulous fun to watch and hear! What a long, strange trip it's been :-)
Love the kids dancing on the stage
Bob is on fire this one too. Awesome!!
beautiful............
fantastic, just fantastic!
Still awestruck, amazed at how good it is, Ah Shucks!!
Thanks I really needed this.
i love them both

This is a winner, 6 stars.
Gotta love the fact that you could wear your pajamas to the show and just dance your ass off. The 70s look fun.
this is the only thing you need
Amongst my very favorite dead moments on disc.
beautiful~
thanks much nice footage!
I believe this is what they refer to as Bob Weir "shredding"
Used to listen to everything this band had in highschool. Liked early to mid 70s peroid best.
The Grateful Dead were amazing at covers.
Burns intensely yet subtly, like coals at the end of a fire!!!
lovely
11/17/73 too. There are a lot of really good ones in 73 & 74
digging phil's red pants and that dead sheep on his shoulder
Bobby Weir saves the day!
Whereas, Jerry makes the day!!

I wish they had THIS version for Rock Band. This would just plain OWN.

we got a stray kitten at work recently and because he's medium haired and grey, i (unofficially) named him "jerry". this is his theme song

+Mario Torres YES! 100% YES. That version is stupid good.
listen to the providence ri china rider
Jared Paul Venetta, Ore, 1972
Agree this is the best China Rider on video....the bridge between the songs may be the single best moment they captured on film. Pure magic
with alittle friend of teaser nice
Ive been to quite a few shows. Hippies don't shower either. Petouli oil doesn't mask the stink, it makes it worse. Just throwin' that out there.
Good Lord. It just plain ol' makes the hair on your arms stand up.
he catches up, quickly, then laps the field. out of his mind.
Believe it, that's the Grateful Dead
china > i know you rider is such a great combo
It's actually Trey Anastasio.
My mom was a dead head not hard core follow them around to every show but still a dead head Ive been fed this music I still don't understand the huge following theyre godly but why don't bands like zeppelin with jimmy page who is the guitar god have a following like this.

Incredible version, great sound! Philzone>Garcia....

Friscobay, I swear as I was watching this vid I thought to myself, "Trey Anastassio must be the bastard love child of Phil Lesh"!! :-)

MAN!!!! WHY on earth did they leave this on the cutting room floor!?!?!?!?!?!
Just to let everyone know, I was quoting the song "Candyman" and I would never intentionally harm someone.

Great band, i dont argue that...but i think floyd is better. BRACE FOR THE THUMBS DOWNS!
dude your crazy thats an early 70s show
haha why the red thumbs?
This is great, of course, but Brent was the man on the ivory.
HA! yeah this shit evokes some good fellings huh? no problem bro :)
I lot of great musicians do covers. Look at Jimi Hendrix, he didn't write All Along the Watchtower.
No center, no structure.
Sure thing spiff. I liked Thankyoujerrygarcia's channel, to bad they shut his ass down. I might be next.
had hart not rejoined yet?
ha aha ahha
Jerry's beard will tell you
LMFAO---dead sheep!!!!!!!!
its phil just early show
yo what happened to The Other One?

Simple statement of fact, sorry haters!
This one is really good, aslo try: 2/24/74; 6/16/74; 8/4/74; 7/1/73; 11/11/73. archive-dot-org, baby!
Huh?
i gather this refers to you: clearly lacks center, mere outline of human--

to pbl1. thats actually very clever, poetic etc. but you don't 'have to' listen to him. 'ignorance is a bliss'
