    I'm doing fairly impressively with this ship World of Warships, could it be the Germans just didn't make proper use of it?

      Back in the day of WWI, Köln was written as "Cölln". But in English it´s always been "Cologne", so no error here.

      Cöln with just one N however. The city of Cölln was neighbouring Berlin before it was finally absorbed by the Prussian Capital.

      Wernher von Kerman
      i wrote it with just one N, guess you mean the L :D
      But you are right, Cölln was a different town than Cöln (now Köln).

    how were the torpedo tubes useless?

    • @sergiocv1467
      @sergiocv1467 7 лет назад +2

      They were submerged, so that meant that they were extremely slow, with short range, and with a very narrow field of fire. And they only carried them in single tubes. They got outdated pretty quickly as above-water launchers started to get more fast and powerful torpedos, and carried multiple of them, saving both space and weight.

      I would have still liked that as an option in-game. adds some flavor and attitude. even those small cal secondaries, they dont fire. its a small complaint really and probably wouldn't add much in battle itself but i dont like how they are just there doing nothing.
      The Emden has eight guns also, two butt cannons(love this feature on the rank 3 German BB) and two at the front with 4 on the deck, They just sit there and do nothing.

      What Kolberg needs in-game is the 1918 armament of six 150mm guns and two 500mm torpedo tubes. Those would be the same as Karlsruhe's stock torpedoes, and while a single torpedo per side isn't anything to write home about it's better than nothing. And the 1918 refit would be deck-mounted trainable tubes, so the arcs would be at least decent.

      its not true that submerged tubes had narrow field of fire nor that they had to fire inferior torpedos (these torpedos were just older because submerged tubes were not use after ww1). they themselves werent trainable (literally a hole in the hull) but the torpedos fired from them were equipped with gyroangle mechanism which allowed them to make a turn to predetermined angle so their firing arc was pretty much unlimited - just like a torpedo fired from a submarine. however they were not very useful in combat because of the distances these were fought and because enemy ships were of course manoeuvering. however in game they would be certainly usefull because of all the close combat. the only advantage of deck launcher is that it is able to put more torpedos in the water at the same time...and also note that the deck launched torps were also equipped with gyroangle so their firing arc was unlimited as well, unlike in the game
