I found the Kolberg more frustrating to play than the Karlsruhe. The damage from the guns is pitifully low.
One game with very unfavorable matchmaking I had over 260 hits (mixed AP and HE) for a total of 56k damage. Best play is as you describe. Support a friendly BB. Keep destroyers off of them and use your stream of shells to fluster larger opponents.
+Pepper Mill Well, at least you can harass people with them peashooters. Karl has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Nice review. you obviously have more patience on that tier 3 ship than I had...
can't wait for your review on Konigsburg.
German cruisers get competitive only at tier V. Before that they are all painful to play. Slow, short range and little guns. They get outplayed easily. Surely WG will buff them at some stage, just as I invested all my free XP to research the Konisberg. Just like it happened with my Furutaka.
Kolberg is fun, Just got the Karlsruhe. Only played one game in it so far- won but very ho-hum. Heard from others that it's crap but also that it's just recently been buffed. Zoup - Can you comment? Good vid btw
The Karls is a struggle. slow in speed and firing. If it's been buffed I haven't noticed. Can't wait to get past it.
+NoZoupForYou Gaming I agree. I kept my Kolberg and really enjoy doing anti-DD in it. I had a DD driver cussing up a storm in chat one match. The Karlsruhe is an awful slog. I finally broke down and used free xp to get to the Konigsberg.
+Thomas Jennings Ran a bunch of games with the Karl last night in co-op mode to see what she was made of. It was dreadful. XP'd my way to the Koingsburg, That's a first for me in WOWS
I did enjoy the Karlsruhe more than the Kolberg. Not sure if it was sheer luck but it did feel better to me. Karlsruhe's guns were fairly decent for the tier, if I remember correctly. The rest is ... well, a good boot camp before the fragile Koningsberg. One will definitely love Koningsberg and play her better if he does not free xp the Karlslushie...
The main problem with the German line I have run into is they are easy to citadel or knock out the engine. Still not a lot of fun till tier 6.
This is bad in Konigsberg especially
+warthog2022 Then engine issue is making me reconsider going past tier 5, getting really tired of it being knocked out first shot I take.
I didn't notice the issue with the Kolberg but it's real bad with Karls and Kinigs
+Der Wahre Hunter How on earth? my amagi luck is sooo bad, i hit a stand still Roon full broardside 8 hits 8k damage.... i was furious when it happened a second time 2 minutes later. I dont ever think i have citadelled a Roon now that i think about it, only in cruisers.
i call my New Orleans my German cruiser killer, almost a citadel with ap everytime

For sure. Either premium or unlockable. I'm sure we'll get a USS Arizona as well....
+NoZoupForYou Gaming i sure hope so. maybe they coild implement it as a separate branch starting after the Wyoming. where they put Nevada as a tier 5. and Pennsylvania as tier 6. with Arizona as a premium tier 6

So is anyone else find it odd that the Soviets and Germans got preferential treatment to the Royal Navy?
I was a little surprised myself. Can't wait for the British battleships. I suppose I can see why they went German first because of the allure of the Tirpitz and others. And I imagine they had to do Russia being that's where the game is made. I hope the British line comes soon though
Yeah, I hear ya. Still the UK had a much larger surface navy than either the Germans or the Russians. I would have expected more than just one premium dreadnought. She's a good ship but...
As you said, the Kolberg is great fun in Tier II and III battles, but it really struggles even against Tier IVs, let alone Tier Vs. I thought it was a pretty painful ship as I constantly got uptiered in it . .. then I tried the Karl ;_; But they are both worth pushing through for the Konigsberg.
When you get up tiered it's painful. Brutally painful
karl. karl is the f*cking nail in the coffin in the entire game.
+Kev Cheng I had to free XP past it after 10 games, it's just awful
U JUST SUCK OR need to upgrade ur ammo mags a couple times....i get off 3-4 shots by the time a battleship gets off its second....simple math
kawachi has accuracy??? I had to play it for a bit and my god is it terrible. Slow, bad at turning and though you have big guns, they can't hit shit
Lol. I should have said you can easily take on a Kawachi because it has NO accuracy. worst ship in the game imho.

+Outwardpanicjoe it's not much better but at least is has a decent chance to hit it's enemy.
Gonna have to disagree with the SC. I pull off decent rounds in it and can land citadels. No such luck in Kawachi.
+NoZoupForYou Gaming I do as well and the turning is pretty good for doges and the armor isn't too bad when you angle if I can get close to a kawacki I can usually out circle them and get some good shots of an I can still get hits at range which is nice the kawachi has more health I think and the gun lay out can be a benifit sometimes
