Thank you for a very clear and informative video, David. I have an HP 8300 into which I have just installed an ssd (replacing the hdd). I'm currently pondering other upgrades, including the cpu, so this video is very helpful food for thought. Keep up the good work!
Thanks you. I'm very glad you found it useful. I have two of these systems now that I use for testing out non-Windows operating systems such as Linux and FreeBSD.
The problem with these HP 6000 and 8000 series from 2011-2014 is the poorly designed cooling with a passive CPU heatsink and only a 1 92mm very noisy front case fan from Foxconn at 4200rpm, which in a normal room at full load sounds like a tractor. There is almost no effect from this 4200 rpm, amd processors almost reach the tjmax limit of 70 degrees Celsius under heavy load. Very unsuitable computer for home use, due to the loud noise.
@@PE4Doers Yes, that is what I have seen also. I actually got this at a decent price with windows 10. I only paid $89 for it. I got it from this local company in my hometown 210geeks, here in San Antonio, TX. The tower works great and It really was easy to upgrade the unit.
I have an HP Elite 8300 which is very similar to this one. It uses a Core I5 3470 and Windows 10 easily, but I'm currently using at as Linux workstation with Ubuntu Mate. Upgrading to a SSD greatly improves the performance of this little computer.
Thanks for the video! I was wondering if the graphic card upgrade is necessary? I will be using this pc for IT and not gaming. The graphics card costs as much as the desktop:(

My CPU is an Intel i7 and currently have 20GB of RAM in memory (all in my Elite 8200 HP desktop like shown in this video) Would appreciate any info you can give. Great vid!! -Travis
Travis, I don't see why that would be a problem. The only change I would consider is upgrading yout Power Supply to a 650 Watt, just in case you ever go to a 3060 or 3060ti. Also, I would suggest a 750 watt for a 3070, or an 850 watt for a 3080/3090.
@@PE4DoersAwesome, thanks!! I plan to get the 1070ti as I'm on a budget but will definitely take that into consideration if I do upgrade later. I appriciate the response!
Thank you so much just 2 days ago I purchased this refurbished model and was planning to put thermal paste on it . you showed me the procedure. Can you suggest a good thermal paste
Glad to hear. As you may have noticed in the video, I use 'Arctic Silver', however I think all but the cheapest would be OK. Let me know how it goes...
I use Arctic MX4 Thermal compound (Thermalpaste). Very good and non conductive. Arctic Silver 5 is conductive, so you have to be more careful when you apply it.
@@PE4Doers You are more than Welcome. I just try to explain and fill in important details. The Arctic MX4 is a very good thermal paste. Try it, I am sure you will not be disappointed. Also you can get a 8 gr Fat tube once you tried ithe Arctic MX4. For PC Build Novices I would recommend the Arctic MX4. It is long lasting and non conductive.
That may be difficult, since the motherboard and power supply are arranged specifically for an HP SFF layout. I have considered using some sheets of tin and polyurethane plastic sheets to make a custom case for one, however that would be costly in parts (and of course time). I did look through used case at one point to see if I could find one that would fit those components, and look more attractive, however I could not find on. An alternative would be an 'Open Case' which would just need a large sheet of tin, a large sheet of clear or colored plastic and four standoffs at least three inches long.
Sir i have hp computer with mother board hewllet packard 0a60h. I want to change my main borad with new latest core i 3 or 5 to support core i3 to 7 processor. Which main board i can purchase to upgrade my PC with maximum support ram more than 8gb
That is a Micro ATX motherboard, with standard power connectors. So I believe any micro atx form factor motherboard should work. Generally tha only other concern is the power capability of the power supply. Since the i3 does not draw that much I think you would be ok. Is your case a 'Small Form Factor' model?

Sir, I am not that familiar with all the HP SFF models, however I believe they are limited to 16gb of ram (4x4gb). and since the motherboard only has a LGA775 ZIF (Socket T), I do not see an upgrade path for a CPU that would support many modern games - only legacy titles maybe. @@lynxfeni9234 That sounds like exactly the same specs mine was originally. Did you see the first video on upgrading the hardware on this refurb PC. My ram wont recognize all 24 in bios. How do I fix it? I tried installing new ram and it would not recognize all of it. Even after I did the f1, it still only recognizes 12. @@talismanskulls2857 Have you tried reseating the CPU chip? I had something like that happen to me when my AMD CPU was not seated properly in the socket.
@@PE4DoersYup. no changes. When shops are open again I am likely just going to go to a PC repair place and have them flash the bios and then if that doesn't help have them run diagnostics on the board. I even went as far as pulling the MoBo battery out for 24 hours and replaced it with a new one. For now I am just going to leave it as is since everything else reads like its suppose to. Its probably some stupid little minor setup thing that's being missed but one of the reasons I hate dealing with HP's bios and firmware settings.
I've got a question. I own this PC and since I'm starting to run out of storage (500GB HDD), I went to spec sheet on HP's website. Apparently, there are two internal 3.5 inch drive bays. Does that mean I can add another HDD (not SSD) which would ideally be 1TB 7200 RPM? (since that's what's supported according to spec sheet). Would it be a harm for the 240W PSU inside it, running two drives simultaneously? I've never added a GPU, SSD or any additional hardware inside. Thanks in advance!
I believe you are correct. In one of the two units I have, I've installed a 500gb SSD in the first slot and a 1tb Hard drive in the second without any problems.
