Did anyone else think that Piranesi found the secret knowledge? The other and the prophet were looking for the knowledge of the ancients, why they interacted with the world and it interacted back with them. The way they placed importance on the stars, that we lost in the modern world. I think Piranesi was so child like and so much more human, especially with the dead, and he had this religion with the House because he found that knowledge. He was cut off from modern civilization and technology and the other even mentioned he was out of sync with time, because Piranesi was in sync with the time of the house, he knew the tides and the stars and the statues. Piranesi said there was no secret meaning to take away from the house and statues because the knowledge they were looking for was admiring the beauty of the world and of life itself. When Piranesi returned to the real world and saw everyone as the statues of the house, that wasn’t just Piranesi still being ‘trapped’ in the house still in his mind, that was Piranesi applying the secret knowledge of the ancients to the real world. He appreciated humans and civilization because they are humans. I think the reason he was so trusting of the other was simply because its in human nature that humans stick together.

Piranesi actually reminded me so much of Convenience Store Woman. The way both the protagonist feel so connected to the House/ the convenience store to the point that it becomes their entire identity. Both of them know more about it than anyone else but the other people also don‘t really understand why the protagonists are so enthralled.

This is such a good insight to both of the characters

I'll be honest, I ALWAYS watch the spoilers in these videos, mostly because I'm nosy and want to know if a book is really worth my time. This time, maybe it was because Ellias was so convincing (lol), I quit out of the video before spoilers and bought Piranesi the next day. I'm so glad I did. This book was healing to my soul! It absolutely transported me to my childhood, as I grew up reading The Chronicles of Narnia every night with my mom. In a world where many of us continue to read children's books and YA into adulthood, there's something totally refreshing reading about adults who are chasing the same high -- the wish to return to a time where magic was possible, and shaped our conscious thought and our experiences.

I ALMOST DNF-ed this book at the beginning, but I am so glad that I did not! I was really struggling at first to get into this world, but when I did I was HOOKED! I too had ZERO knowledge of what it was before coming into it, but really loved the world building and the beauty of the descriptions and imaginative writing. I did end up giving it a 3 star just because of the ending, which I felt was a bit of a let down. It felt like the conflict was resolved too quickly, but then the comparisons between the real world and the statues at the end were gut wrenching and gorgeous, so I am glad there was enough attention given to the after story. ❤️

This book made me feel so smart just because I pushed through when it was confusing. At first I didn’t know how I felt but the longer I reflect on everything I realize how much I loved this book. Great pick! I would’ve never chosen it myself so I’m glad TLNBC got me to :)

One of my all time favorite books discussed by some of my favorite BookTubers! Perfection! AND you all loved it! So good. This is such a magical metaphor of a novel that will live in my head forever. Thanks for choosing this one!

I read it because Sussan Clark is a Scorpio and my reading list this year was to read books by famous Scorpio authors. This book was so well-written. Even though I couldn't understand anything that was going on, I was captivated by everything. I was just as curious about the world as Piranesi was. I don't know how Susanna does it but her world-building building skill is amazing.

If you have ADHD this book is a real challenge - it took me, no joke, 17 checkouts from libby to finish it because the writing was so dense/repetitive and not a whole lot of plot was happening. so I'd go back to another book and have to put another hold on it. For me, it took until just about halfway through to click, but I'm so glad I finished it!! the emotions, the reveals were absolutely worth it.

Coming to this 2 years late. Ha! But I didn’t see Piranesi as this wonderful, childlike person. So sweet? Yes, to a fault. He’s stuck in the past (if the house represents the past). He thinks everything is fine. It’s not. Yes, he’s a wonderful soul, but he’s being taken advantage of. You can’t get so lost in something that you can’t see reality. Yes, you can appreciate it, but you have to move on.
