    This song opened the album. I can tell you from someone there at the time 1995, it was out of nowhere. An alien crash land or meteor hit.. No one had heard anything like the combination of the sound, the voice, the lyrics, the pure raw feminine force and energy. Many hated it. Many more were stunned and entranced.

    • @frog382
      @frog382 Год назад

      @@rodturner6759 Thats very situational, singing your own back vocals, most of the time back vocals need to give contrast to lead. They are on the side channels and much quiter and the back vocal singers usually dont have very colourful voice, but more "generic", normal voice, which works great for choirs especially, where your tone should be more normal, without accents on a frequency scale, so that it works better as an instrument, while lead should be unique and recognisable. In this song it pretty much a boost to the lead, its not exactly a classic back vocals, but they sing in unis and with heavy effects applied, it almost sounds like a robot. There is a pitch effect also, on both channels of the back vocals, making it an octave higher, so you basically have one back vocal on each channel and each of them have another channel with a octave filter. Why did i have to go so deep, sorry xD

    It is not just her voice. It is the cleverness of her lyrics and the way her song structure is always very unconventional, who sticks 2 seconds of silence in the middle of a verse?, but she makes it work. Don't be jealous Lex. It is the songs and skill he is in love with. Who would have thought a man brought up on hip-hop and rap etc would fall so hard? :-D

    What an amazing song! What struck me was the perfect psychedelic music supporting her crazy/beautiful voice. Brad is right, there is so much in this song. In the olden days when there be dragons and music like this, no one attempted to get to the core of such a song. We hardly knew the lyrics of the songs that we listened to every day. I really think you would need some strong acid to get you in the right mood but these days I prefer edibles. This is where the overused expressions, "Far out, man!" and "Too much, man!" came from.

      Listen to the way she almost screamed the word justice, that’s what makes this song powerful, you can feel the passion

    The more Alanis you do, the happier I am. I really dig y'alls style and realness of reactions and love it when I get to rediscover awe with someone.

    Yes! I've been waiting for you to react to this one! I absolutely love the pause after "Why are you so petrified of silence? Here can you handle this?" And was waiting for your specific reaction to that. Love how it caught you off guard!

    I love watching these. So awesome to see people discover and love Alanis. And yet I never assumed I'd feel so old - I'm 38 and suddenly feel ancient seeing people discover her as a new discovery lol

    She was a teen pop star in Canada. Had a relationship with an older man in her industry. That was her heart breaking incident. She grew up and put out this album. Popular for a couple years then gone. She used that anger for "Jagged Little Pill"

    The way Brad smiles everytime he introduces an Alanis video is life right now. Her singing her own stuff is just fantastic, but her singing Basket Case by Greenday is utterly sublime, you should check it out

    Love watching your reactions to Alanis Morrisette! Jagged Little Pill is a well played album of mine.
    When you were talking about vocal gymnastics, I thought one of my favorite artists, Hua Chenyu. In his song, Nunchucks, he blends from ballad to rock to rap to traditional Chinese seamlessly. And his voice control is phenomenal. He can be an emotional roller coaster ride, but I always find him pure joy to listen to.
