I would choose hardware. I don't want to feel the need to update my hardware within a year or two just to keep up which is where I feel the Series S will land.
Funny thing is I wasn't looking for an Xbox. After my Xbox one S I was leaning towards going back to PlayStation. I've always been more of a Sony guy. But when I saw I could get a next gen system for $249 with the Xbox series s I decided to get it. Sold my Xbox one S for $200 and got it for $50. The instant on and quick resume are two very underrated features. Makes getting to your dashboard and playing so much faster. Even the load times are much faster. Then there's game pass it's a game changer literally. The compact size of the console combined with game pass means you can play at home or on the go seamlessly. It's the future of gaming in my opinion. I've had mine 8 days and I'm absolutely loving it. The only downside I've found is the storage, but even that isn't a huge deal. Overall the Xbox series s is the best deal in gaming because you get next gen gaming on a budget.
The Series S was a bad buy for me. It struggles to play certain games compared to the X. Players won't know this until they compare, but once realized, it is night and day... It's almost like a layer of Vaseline is on the screen with half the fps. 120 fps is key.
It's interesting you say that. Most players don't see much difference until they play FPS at 120 fps. Then they can really tell. What game(s) were you playing?
@@RidirFamilyGaming My first experience having trouble with the Series S running games was with Arkam Knight, which I had already beaten on PC (90 fps). Series S gets roughly 30 fps, and I don't think 60 fps is asking too much for "new-gen" titles... Next was MW 2019, Cold War, Vanguard, and MW2 2022, which play horribly... Glitches aside, the FPS is WAY too low for a competitive multiplayer shooter. Jedi: Survivor" was an immediate uninstall/refund due to performance issues about an hour into the game. "All of these titles I mentioned play on the Series S as a shell of their former self... Literally. When i bought the Series S two years ago, I was also under the impression that it was just a digital version of the X (like the PS5 digital), which has everything minus the larger hard drive and disc capabilities. I was SADLY mistaken and now regret it wholeheartedly. Lastly, the smaller HD has ALWAYS been an issue. Im CONSTANTLY uninstalling games, and I dont understand why there is a monopoly on NVMe storage devices for direct plug-in for the X/S. God forbid Microsoft/Seagate allows generic storage expantions. I know that I can just buy a cheap external HD/SSD for older games, but that won't run X/S titles. They were overpriced for too long! Now, I'm not bothering with the recent price cut bc I'm buying a PS5 in a couple of weeks. We're in a dry spell for games on Xbox as well. The current available exclusives for PS5 (including Spiderman 2 coming soon) outweigh my current library of 30+ games for Microsoft, tbh. The FPS is worth the switch alone, and I dont have enough patience/hope for "Starfield," especially not after the "Redfall" disappointment (which also was an immediate uninstall after 1hr of gameplay due to performance issues.)
@@evanmccue736this is the most transparent and honest literal take on the series s I've seen on the internet The mass media and youtubers (like the guy who uploaded) all pander against everything that you said I own a series s and I share the same sentiments. Going to get a Xbox Series S after a 1TB anything but white SKU is released. Can't afford $500.00 for a Series X and I'm already well versed at making due with weaker tech because my PC gaming is on a Lonovo IdeaPad 3 AMD chipset laptop.
@@RidirFamilyGaming - Only recently experienced SSD fast loading of games on my 256 GB SSD laptop with a 1TB Samsung T7 Shield SSD. Feels like a luxury after playing on the Xbox One S.
I think a Series S would fit fine, unless you want to collect physical copies and limited editions. You will see a difference in high end graphics but if you're just going for fun gameplay, the Series S will more than fit the bill. If you want to have the absolute best experience on the best TV and money is no issue, then the Series X would be better.
In short, yes. Long answer: MSFT has stated to publishers and developers that if they want to put their games on Xbox (to include series X, S, and Xbox on PC) they need to run on all three. Will it run comparable to a Series X or a high end PC? Not even close, but will it give a good gaming experience? I believe it will.
What matters more, games or hardware?
I would choose hardware. I don't want to feel the need to update my hardware within a year or two just to keep up which is where I feel the Series S will land.

Man I love the designs of Series Consoles this gen. They look great next to each other. Monolith type design is amazing!
The design is pretty nice from my perspective, the series S is SO TINY, the X is bigger but easy to find space for.

S if you already have a PS5 because the S is really good already for performance games if you want high fps and good quality
@kirbykirbs9521 I don't think this mesh's with MSFT strategy of getting into more houses at a lower price point though.
