This is what I was looking for. Rules explained, a demo to understand what it is, and descent sound work as you can feel the tension. Love the fact even movement has sound effects.
I can't normally watch gaming videos, but this is a nice, easy playthrough of a turn, without going into excessive details like some others do. Thanks, and looking forward to finally getting this to the tabletop this week.
This is a fantastic video - cleanly laid out, explains everything clearly. I picked up this book on a whim and now I've come and looked at this video I'm pretty hyped about seeing how it plays myself
Thank you for making this, it clarifies many rules questions I had. My favorite thing about this game is the Shock Roll, it really keeps things dynamic. Some of my favorite gaming moments so far are when unqualified troops try climbing and take 1d6 hits!
reading the manula for this now. Had a query if anyone can answer it. Theres a weapon with the ability Surge ( i think) that seems to say you roll 3 dice and do two damage per die on a roll of 1. Is that the only way this weapon does damage? if so there almost no point using it cos the chance of it actually doing damage is lower than any other weapon in the game including "weaker" weapons. Unless its some sort of printing mistake? EDIT reading it again i waas clearly on drugs when i read it the first time haha. Its on a rolls of 1 the ATTACKING unit takes damage.
You know that's the creator of the game doing the tutorial, right? I guess he might know how the rules are intended to work better than you do. Anyway, free actions follow the normal rules, they are just additional actions that the model take
6.55 Shouldn’t the Devourer had rolled for movement when using the free move action triggered by the destruction of the first nexus? Technically it was not the first move action of it’s turn.. Unless a nexus effect counts as a new turn for a horror, but I don’t recall that specified in the rules..
The key here is the distinction between Turns (each unit's activation) and Rounds (a full sequence of every unit activating, ending when all units are exhausted) Here the Nexus was destroyed on the Marshall's turn, and the Horror had not yet moved on that turn, so the first move was automatic and the second move (triggered by its Advance ability after shooting) required a roll. Hope that makes sense! The key thing to remember is that a Turn is a single unit's activation (in which other units might perform actions as a result of Shock, Nexus effects etc) and a Round is made up of every unit taking their Turn.
@@Bastionland I guess that makes sense.. So a unit will for example also be able to perform two (or more) recovery attempts in a round.. One in its own turn and one in an allied unit’s turn triggered by for example a Herald’s “inspire”..
@@ulcbattlereports7388 That's right. Units can attempt a Recovery action on behalf of a downed ally they are touching, so that's another way to get that important unit up onto their feet.
When something allows you to Move to any point, or any position e.g. the pathfinder's shortcut, the Curator's infilitrate ability, or the Shadow Cutter's shadestep, is the intention that it follows normal Move rules(straight line over open ground, 6" cap if using that rule) or are those kinds of abilities meant to be exceptions? Edit: also, if the move specifies Move into Touch, does it move there regardless of obstacles/distance(if capped)? Does it fail if it can't reach?
If it says you can move to any point, such as with Shortcut or Infiltrate, then you ignore obstacles and just move to any point that meets the limits described, so Shortcut needs to be a point on the same board edge. For Move into Touch I guess it depends on the specific rule. Was there an example you were looking at?
@@Bastionland Thanks for the quick reply. Specifically looking at the flesh titan for "move into touch" The Nexus effects are to move into touch with the unit that destroyed the nexus, and the response table has the titan move into touch with the nexus, without checking visibility.
I'm about to put a review of this up on my channel. I love the game, but I have a few questions regarding some rules clarifications. Is there a way to contact you?
I was wondering about the size of the horrors and the denseness of the terrain interfering in , my learning games have been quite hard or I've been unlucky
In the OnTableTop videos they activate the horror after each of their own activations. Should the horror have been exhausted after its first activation?
I'm very curious about this system I really like it. Our little gaming group has shrunk a lot since the lockdowns. Is there an option for coop for groups or is it always only semi-coop when playing with another person ? I know someone who'd play this with me but only if it's true coop. Great video by the way ! Very informative, liked the session :)
If you just play with the Horror scenarios and omit the Conflict part then you can run it pretty straightforward as co-op. It makes things easier but some of the later Horrors get pretty nasty, so should be plenty of challenge in there.

That was so kuch better and more informative than 40 min of talking from OnTabletop. Thank you.
1:00 Unspoken yet crucial rule: always remember to pat the Horror before the game to aknowledge its contribution to the oncoming glorious mess. ;)
Where's that smooth McDowall baritone?
I like the choice of markers for exhaustion. Obvious, but pretty subtle - they fit the aesthetic of the table nicely.

I say it here again for posterity. The camera work is fun and creates a perfectly tense atmosphere.
Excellent rules clarification. I like everything about the video, Music, sound effects and even the camera floating filter. Well done sir

I appreciate you making this video, I learn better with visual references. Looking forward to getting my copy, thank you!
This game seems really cool! I love how freeform it is, and that the terrain actually gets used.
“Playing with one hand can be challenging”
Gold.
Didn't realise you could play this solo, so thx for opening my eyes to this. Great vid
Just learned of The Doomed on The Dungeon Dive channel. Great tutorial/play session. Thank you , Bastionland.
Bought it today. Cannot wait to start kitbashing..!!
Awesome video. Great editing and background music is awesome!
This watches like an experimental art exhibit in a gallery. Cool game too!
Thanks for the excellent video. I taught me to play in under 10 minutes. Mission achieved!
IMHO:
BEST-TABLETOP-MINIATURE-GAME-EVER
Very well done video! Please make more! Made me want the game and that's what I did. I bought It!
Super helpful rules explanation.
Thanks for the video. Awaiting my rulebook from Amazon. Just subbed.
Heres a thought, the kinetic driver is actually a range weapon
Damn! I wished you’d filmed the entire skirmish. Oh well, great video nonetheless. Thanks for creating it
Helpful playthrough. What did you use for the horror minis?
Thanks! This one is a GW Chaos Spawn. Not sure if this kit is still available, but it's fantastic for making Horrors.

Sounds like you've got it! Hope you enjoy the game
Great video, just received the book. Where did you get that terrain???
Thanks! It's the Shanty Town set from Battle Systems
The Devourer did not need to make a recovery roll when the 1st nexus was destroyed, it was a free recovery.

@Bastionland looks that it is the battle systems’s shanty town core set. Could you confirm? Thanks!
Yeah that's it

Yeah looks like that's an error. Horrors get exhausted after their activation just like other units (unless specifically noted in that Horror's entry)

It's from Battle Systems

It's from the GW Chaos Spawn set. That kit is a fantastic source for horror bits.
not a fan of the distortion effects. kinda makes my eyes wobble.
Yeah afraid that's the stabilisation, as my camera hand isn't very steady!
You know that you are allowed to speak in a video? 😜
