Thank you so much! I have a WIP on a London phone booth and it was difficult for me to figure out how to add the glass windows, even after watching many other tutorials. Thanks to you I can move forward. You rock man!
After watching long ass videos with much more complexity just to realize that it doesn't work, I am soooo so happy that I've found your video... Thanks so much for the quick tutorial.
Big Thanks! I followed the same steps and used the same materials, but why is there no glare on the glass? It's only transparent. Do you know how about it is?
Id first suggest checking you opacity and making sure that it is set to a value of 0.1 and no less otherwise it might not work. I would then advise you to check if the material setup is done the same if the first thing did not solve your issue. Last thing that could make a difference is the 3d model itself. Like a window it has a thickness and so the light has to pass through two faces of your 3d object if that makes sense. I hope this helps.
Hey mate, in substance painter can i separate the pieces like blender? In blender pressing "/" i can hide the other pieces and work more easy, here in subs painter i can?
@@-manuterodactilo-7177 The only way I know is if they are imported with different materials. In the top right you can hide objects based on this. Outside of this I do not know.
hey could you do a video on how to put this texture into blender? because i have tried so many different things and tried looking it up but every time i import it, the glass isnt see through even if the opacity is very low in substance painter
I have a short covering the node wrangler add on that will import all your textures apart from your opacity. Then add the opacity and plug it into alpha. For it to show properly in eevee you will then want to watch the video "make opacity textures work in blender". I will also release a video tomorrow to help out as I've put it on my priority list
@@jamiestudio363 At 6pm gmt a video will come out that ive made which should hopefully address your comment. Thank you for helping the channel grow. It means alot
Sorry for the extremely late reply. This is meant to happen if I’m correct and by adding scratches and dirt/grunge you are able to help it look visible.
I have a video that covers this topic. If you can go to the tutorial playlist I have on my channel and find the video named 'How to export glass textures from substance painter' it should describe how to get them into blender.
Opacity is just simply how see through an object is so if you make it to low it will be like the object does not exist. Make sure that you add scratches and Grunge to the texture as it can help sell the look as if you've ever got close enough to glass in real life there is always going to be small imperfections
@@WeTheExplorers everything should be fairly similar in the newer updates as I uses the 2022 version and it is still very a like in terms of UI and workflow. It is annoying that they have not made this easier to do still.
In the new adobe version I can't seem to find the glass visor material. Have they removed it? And there are also less shaders available. I previously used one called lens studio for glass which is gone now. And none of the ones available I tried would affect the opacity.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your software. As far as I am aware you do not specifically need the glass visor as the main thing, but you do need an opacity texture that you can change. Make sure you are in substance painter not designer as I have once mistakenly done this. Also I do not know how to solve the opacity texture issue you are having. All I can say is make sure you are looking for help on the appropriate discord channels or forums and even google searches. Also one last thing make sure you have done everything correctly that I show within the tutorial as it is quite easy to miss certain things. My best wishes, Aaron.
Hi Bradon! I had same problem, but I was looking for glass in materaial section. And there is in "smart marterials" beside materials tab. Hope you can!
@@Secretlycat31 I would google where to plug an opacity texture into in maya as the normal map slot is not the same as opacity and so will not give you the desired result

Looking forever for something like this, great and simple tutorial!
I try to keep it as informative as possible whilst not wasting your time.
Dont forget to remove the metalness. That preset put metal at 1. But glass dont have metal in them. Should be no metal or metal at 0
Thanks for these straight to the point steps :D
Thanks Aaron, great video and easy to follow 👍🏻
I'm glad you could follow along

Thank you , this was helpful in adding transparent wings texture to my bug model.
Super helpful and simple to follow, many thanks!
thanks for this one! any Idea on how to keep the glass transparent when exporting to Unreal Engine 5?
thanks for your sharing!, can you tell me more how to make the glasses with only color on the edges?
thank you so much

the opacity channel and all the other channels are greyed out, my trial also ended just before I started, so I don't know if that affects it. ;(
can confirm it was because of the trial ending, which is so weird they locked literally just that one thing.

I have a video about exporting the glass texture to blender so could be worth checking that out.
thankyou

Fbx files don't retain the opacity texture if I remember correctly so once it is in the game engine you have to import the opacity texture again
