  • Godwin Battery was a coastal artillery battery built in the early 1900s to defend the ports along the Humber estuary. It was in use throughout both World Wars, and was modified during the Second World War to add a 4-inch gun and a pair of searchlights. The battery was decommissioned after the war, and the land it occupied was sold in 1959.
Today, all that remains of Godwin Battery are the collapsed gun aprons, which are half on the beach and half on the cliff top. The site is a popular spot for fishing and walking, and it offers stunning views of the Humber estuary.
