Even the song’s lyrics reflect this “That’s when everything went wrong” when Vander betrayed the Undercity and chose to not fight was when Silco gained influence and when everything “went wrong” with Sevika and several others changing allegiances.
"Block with your face" And the good thing about this fight is that she learns to stop that and finally goes on to block her opponents attacks with her gauntlets. before that she would either dodge or tank them, but with Sevika's blade she cannot. Her blocking an attack also makes the HexTech Gemstone expel a forcefield and make Sevika leviatate, an ability which we know Jayce's hammer had, but Vi would have never even discovered if she hadn't learned to block
1:18 God that fall is so beautifully animated. You can see Vi trying not to fall but the heavy gauntlet is weighing her arm down. I feel like the reference they used is someone holding a big ass dumb bell and falling.
that's so true!!! As soon as the gauntlet stops working, the hextech magic that made it super light fails. So the gauntlet take up the real weight it actually carries and she's not used to it.
Holy fuck, Sevika has such a good heart. Out here, with no hesitation, pushing Silco out of the way of the explosion. Losing her arm in the process. Do we see her complain about this? Bring it up in some petty way? No. Sevika gets fucked over by Jinx and then we see her do what? Give compassion! In the form of advising Silco to give her time! Because she relates! She may have her petty moments but honestly, is this any differnet from what we've seen with Vi? She even had the same righteous spirit as Vi when the Enforcers were cracking down. Sevika, my beloved.
1:12 I thought: "those gauntlets seemed too heavy, how can she handle it?" But now I understand. Hextech energy makes gloves lighter. This is confirmed when Sevika cuts off the hextech energy flow and the gloves get heavy again.
Vander is the perfect example of a man who wants to redeem himself, even though he made mistakes in the past. He is the example where people indeed deserve a second chance.
@@J.S.Arthur Warwick is a vigilante, not a bad person. Yes, originally he hunts people indiscriminately., but after he is haunted by memories of presumably Vi, he specifically targets those who smell like blood in the figurative sense as well as the literal - criminals who have gotten their hands dirty and are responsible for the deaths of people. Even as Singed releases Vander/Warwick's inner monster, he still is trying to do good in the only way he can now. He's basically League's version of the Punisher. he knows he's doomed and has nothing left, so he may as well clean his city up
This is arguably one of the least talked about fights of the show yet in my opinion, one of the most badass. It's like both of them were each other's boss fight.
We got a little tease on Jayce vs Vi, which sounds interesting, but Sevika was definitely her _fated_ rival, this fight carries quite a lot of emotion.
Vi is hands down my fav. Then again I’m biased to characters who straight up box and throw hands. I love down and dirty fight scenes, I prefer their first fight, but this one is outstanding.
I agree. I prefer the first fight too because we get to see the more complex choreography in that fight compared to this fight where its more about super strength and throwing each other around the room. That being said, I really enjoyed this scene as well
She will definitely have a bar that recharges that allows her to use the blade. They tease at her having to put new Shimmer tanks into her arm so many times in the show.
I absolutely love the fact that no one has to be told that these women are tough as nails. Arcane doesn't try to convince us of "Girl power". These women are just genuinely ass kicking enforcers and you don't even have to think about it.. That's what great storytelling does!
Yeah, I mean there are plenty of influencers/youtubers who usually brutally criticize woke culture in movies and series but they praise this show to the heavens and back. Something truely special has been made here
To me, thats because the show has a bunch of well written and strong characters... and some of them are female as well. Thats kinda the thing to me, theres no spotlight on their gender. They are just really well written and it doesnt matter whats between their legs so nobody points it out. Cause as our wise and spikey Hedgehog friend Knuckles once said: “anytime someone calls attention to the breaking of gender roles, it ultimately undermines the concept of gender equality by implying that this is an exception and not the status quo.”
Cause these Writers are very good at writing female characters as sho don't tell without rubbing people off with Empowerment they are the embodiment with telling people off it. Kinda like the RUclipsr and I quote "ARCANE respects it's audience and show it without telling it, it doesn't rubbed it's audience in the face"
It is also because they actually ARE feminists. They are not just trying to win audience by having a character say surprised: "That girl is strong!" They are actually SHOWING strong women without having people being surpised or having to directly say that, because they know that there ARE many strong women in the world. If you have to say that a character is strong then you failed, you have to SHOW them being strong. Also the female characters (but every character in Arcane to be fair) are actually complex, they have both strenghts and weaknesses, and the writers know that a character doesn't have to be phisically strong to be badass (Mel is a perfect example).
The fact that Vi hallucinates is not talked about nearly often enough. Jinx's hallucinations are more obvious because they're in your face and constantly crawling over the screen, but whenever Vi is weak and out of it she starts seeing Powder or Vander. It's an interesting parallel between the two, they both have psychotic episodes but Jinx's are informed by trauma and have been made worse by her attempts to suppress them, while Vi's were a comfort during her time in solitary and so are gentler in style and content than Jinx's are.
@@pandora8354 I'm aware. But Arcane has taken some liberties with the lore so far, so I don't doubt that they'd do it again if that's where they decide to take the story.
@@awesomeman2245 understandable but personally I kinda like the tragedy more and I don’t want them to forgive each other. I want them to move on and be who they want, Vi to eat cupcakes and Jinx to be a psychotic terrorist I want them to find there own family.
I don’t have much hope. Jinx is off the walls unstable now with Shimmer running in her veins, and then she gets another layer of guilt and isolation from accidentally killing Silco and firing the rocket at Piltover’s council. She’s actively pushing everyone and everything away, especially Vi, who is the source of her trauma. With the guaranteed war between Piltover and Zaun, a potential politician going on a warpath to avenge her assassinated daughter, a power grab in Zaun due to the ramifications of Silco’s death, and whatever the fuck Singed’s cooking up, chances are they’re going to end up gutting each other instead.
ayo!!!! I was saying the exact same thing. There's so much more to this scene than the actual fight. She came here to blow off some steam, she was tired and losing hope. This is equivalent to going to the gym after a stressful day.

YES! Jinx was there to watch her sisters moment of triumph, and had things gone south, she WOULD have shot Sevika dead to protect her. It makes the whole sequence feel a lot more meaningful (like Powder was reminded of why she looked up to Vi so much as a kid).
I just realized that Sevika didn't underestimate Vi. When Vi was down about to pass out instead of deeming herself the winner and walking off she got herself ready so when Vi got up she would be ready for her. She knew Vi wouldn't just give up she knew Vi would keep fighting. I just found that interesting when comparing how she was in their first fight.
In fairness, Sevika's less of a brawler and more beserker, she hasn't got the stamina and endurance Vi does, just shock-and-awe rage. Plus, being top dog for so long is gonna dull anyone's blade, prison doesn't. Still, it's good to have a good old-fashioned rivalry in a show like this, and I expect we'll see more of these two butting heads in Season 2.
To be fair, vi's knee along with the multiple blows to the head surely gave sevika a major head concussion. I don't think he was fighting in the best conditions.
This scene is amazing. The blatant respect they have for each other as opponents, the animation itself. I love this scene. The part with Vi falling and seeing Vander, her strength personified, was heartbreaking. It wasn’t really Vander, more so her own psyche in the form of Vander to keep going.
I love that throughout the show, Vi keeps using the move mid fight where she jumps in the air to come down on her opponents. It's an impulsive and arrogant move that leaves her open, and repeatedly, she does get taken down when she tried it. In this fight, it is Sevika that makes that play, and Vi takes advantage of it by going on the defense and taking advantage of how open Sevika left herself. That's such great subtle story telling
God this fight is just so good, like, honestly there’s so much to talk about. Like for example, at 0:27 when it cuts to scenes where they both get roughed up. It never feels like a game of cat and mouse, but more like two powerhouses beating the life out of each other. It highlights how evenly matched they are, it’s never just one person beating the other up, they’re both going to have scars and bruises after this match. Not to mention the respect they have for each other, taking breaks and never beating the opponent that’s already on the ground, because they don’t need to. They’re so confident in their abilities that they’re not so desperate as to throw a cheap shot and try to hurt the opponent when they’re at their worst. And honestly, it’s just good. Like what more is there to say??
i'm on my fourth rewatch of Arcane, and on this time around I've started paying attention to these little flourishes that Fortiche have added to the script. They appear more in act 2 and 3 and i love them. They feel almost inconsistent until you realise there's lots of them.
It’s even better because it’s not just family = win. Vander actually gives her combat advice which leads to her discovering the shield ability in the gauntlets. Aka, she finally learned how to properly defend and not to block with her face like Ekko says.
its just mindblowing to me how much story-telling and characterization is crammed into this single scene while STILL being fun to watch as just a simple fighting scene
I love that they show Vi's badassery by making her unstoppable not invisible yes she gets knocked down but she always gets back up it makes her victory that much more satisfying..
I love that two women can put up a good fight. I mean not the ninja kind of stile, just punchs, blood and broken teeth! Loved this fight and their previous one.
Most animated fights between two women: "I'm going to fight you elegantly and gracefully while somehow looking gorgeous" Fight between Vi and Sevika: "I'm going to beat the ever living shit out of you while getting blackout drunk"
I love absolutely everything about this scene. It’s the best animated fight scene I’ve ever seen in my life and arguably the best fight scene I’ve ever seen in any media. Two things I haven’t seen commented on: when Vi blocks and the shield comes up, to me it looks like Sevika has the tiniest smile at the edge of her grimace - like she’s impressed and Vi has fully gained her respect. I also like to think it’s a grin of “god, this is fun.” My other favorite tiny detail is immediately after Vi ripe Sevika’s arm off, the majority of the light in the room then comes from the shimmer leaking everywhere as Vi swings her. That bright purple glow in the mostly dark room, just barely lighting the final moments, are absolute art.
Neat bit of visual storytelling- Sevika gauges the first swing and is able to dodge appropriately since there is distance between them, but mistimes Vi's second hit (a palm strike, look closely) because she isn't used to Vi's fist being covered in a giant gauntlet 10x the size of her hand.
They got every genre of music in this show and it worked. Western barfight music, street hip-hop, club dubstep, punk metal and more. God, I fucking love this show.
Am I the only one who LOVES this? 0:37 I think it is such an awesome detail that Vi hurls her glass at Sevika’s face. It’s so petty, badass, and the perfect touch of childishness. Perfection.
Love how the camera follows the movements of their blows ever so slightly. Really lends weight to their swings. This a thing in the whole show but its extra satisfying when vi is fighting.
Something that I quite liked is the fact that the background music that plays during the fight is not only heard by us, but also by the characters, since the music sounds directly from the vinyl record that Silco's henchman placed.
THIS! This is what I missed while watching the first act of season 2. Everything feels so emotional in this fight, from the voice acting to the expression, body language and build up. In season 2 so far it feels like watching a story about events without really getting deep into the emotions. Like there's no time for it. I really hope it's going to get better during the 2nd and 3rd act.
gotta say, i love how the fights (especially between the women) in this series are so raw. they don't hold back, & have these characters take some pretty heavy hits while actually taking realistic damage for it. it's refreshing, in a sense. :)
I love this fight for 3 reasons 1: Its a grudge match 2: VI losing her right gauntlet mirroring Sivikas arm is brilliant 3: VI litteraly +1'ing Sivikas Barrel punch in their first fight with a fucking pooltable is honestly way to funny
the hit at 1:18 man that gets me every time. the metal clang, her stumbling away like she's drunk off the strongest whiskey ever, the fall trying to keep her self up and then just flat my god the animation team did WONDERS with just those few seconds
I have a feeling that what's said at 1:39 is going to relevant to season 2. Even though this is in Vi's imagination, this is Vi's mindset, and even after what happens after this: In Vi's mind, she's knows her sister still needs her and that it's not going to get any easier. Vi's relationship with her sister was at the heart of this show, and I think that will still be a big part of the show in season 2. Vi giving up on her sister, despite what happened, would be so out of character for her.
When Vi gets up from the fight and fills Vander's silhouette, symbolically showing that her main arc is complete, she has found her purpose and fully subsumed Vander's role.
This is such a great scene. The brutality mixed with the gorgeous lights, the frantic, madcap, music versus the tense silence later on. The LIGHTING, the expressions, the fluidity of motion. Just damn. It's so great.
I love that when the hextech shield goes off you can briefly see magic runes flash. It's the first time the hextech seems more magical than technological. And if you think about it, it's the first time in the show that hextech is used to *save* someone rather than to be harm or make profit. The first time it did what Jayce and Viktor intended it to.
I love that Vander still looks huge to her even though shes an adult now, which just goes to show that she will always look up to him no matter how big or strong she gets.
Beautiful detail and it makes sense. When you're kid, the adults in your life are these huge protective figures and even once you grow up, especially if you lost them at a young age, that's how you remember them.
At 2:06 vi blows her nose. As a word of warning don’t do this during or shortly after a fight. If your orbital bone (the bone around your eye) is broken, which may be likely. Your eye will pop out of the socket when you curate the pressure from blowing your nose.
this may be one of the single best clips of animation ever put on a screen. without any context, this scene would still tell a story without so much as a word spoken. absolutely insane
Love how “You still block with you face” line also had its own small arc, she initially lost in this fight cause she immediately rushed in for the attack, getting one of her arms deactivated, but she won, when she finally blocks
Vi and Sevika are a perfect example of how our enemies make us stronger. They force us to stay on our toes, to adapt, to always seek improvement. It's probably why despite hating each other, they never land a killing blow even when they have an opportunity to finish each other off. It's almost as if they recognize this themselves and don't want to lose such a worthy opponent since they benefit from each other's existence. It's also why Sevika refused to fight Vi until everyone cleared out of the bar. She wanted no interference because if there was, how would she be able to tell if she was progressing or not? She views Vi as her greatest foe and the only way to truly test her skill is to face her alone.
I really like how she threw the table at Sevika, a little reference to her song: Here Comes Vi. "Have you ever really wanted to be, a total rebel flipping tables on the enemy?"
I honestly hated her, when she was (I thought) about to kill Silco. I thought once a traitor always a traitor. After that scene I realized that she wasn't loyal to the person, but to the cause and gained my respect. Honestly hoping she'd be the next big boss of the undercity!
I love the little details in this scene in the whole fight like in 0:04 on the record thingy you can see like I think Vi fighting seems to be like an Enforcers or Officer then there’s that part where Sevika was sitting down and she let Vi get a drink.
This fight has everything, funky bar music, a cool moment where Vi takes a drink and throws it at Sevika, full intent on murder but still respect, and of course! The classic Anime "Remember your friends" moment and a ghostly mentor pep-talk give the main character a big boost. Also Vi is built like a brick shithouse, taking hits from a goddamn metal arm and still kicking ass.
2:41 you see that Sevika still tried to fight by trying to pull Vi off balance despite her arm being pulled off she continued to keep fighting no matter what.
I LOVE how they show the slo-mo deformed face of Vi when she gets punched. It's not smthg they would normally show because they need to keep the female fighters pretty and beautiful. But street fights are dirty and rough and I love that they displayed it accordingly!
I love that fact they take a break for Vi to get a drink and for Savika to get a breather from the shimmer drop.

I thought: "those gauntlets seemed too heavy, how can she handle it?" But now I understand. Hextech energy makes gloves lighter. This is confirmed when Sevika cuts off the hextech energy flow and the gloves get heavy again.

This is arguably one of the least talked about fights of the show yet in my opinion, one of the most badass. It's like both of them were each other's boss fight.
They kinda were. Vi and jxyn wasn't going to happen season 1 and we have no real indication that Silco would be that tough in a fist fight.

I love how Vi stops in the middle of the fight to knock back a drink then just gets right back to it
I absolutely love the fact that no one has to be told that these women are tough as nails.
Also the female characters (but every character in Arcane to be fair) are actually complex, they have both strenghts and weaknesses, and the writers know that a character doesn't have to be phisically strong to be badass (Mel is a perfect example).
imagine if they where woke lol
Love how Vi was about to give up at 1:30 but heard Vander's voice who reminded her of what she was fighting for, her little sister.
Yes
Un gran momento.

Funny how Vi seeks out Sevika whenever she needs to hit something.

One thing to keep in mind while watching this scene: *Jinx is in some corner of this bar watching them the whole time.*
YES! Jinx was there to watch her sisters moment of triumph, and had things gone south, she WOULD have shot Sevika dead to protect her. It makes the whole sequence feel a lot more meaningful (like Powder was reminded of why she looked up to Vi so much as a kid).
@@DLxxx ja, ja, lo mismo pensé, así como intento evitar que se la llevarán y no pudo, seguro que si VI no se levantaba, Jinx la hubiera salvado.
This is the same girl who took out Silco's goons at 15 and laid Sevika out at 22 with nothing but her bare hands.
It's pretty cool that in their first fight Vi kicked her ass without the gauntlets, so they had to give Sevika a lightsaber to give her a upper hand.
That ambush knee in ep5 was cheap. Sucker punched!
@@XStreet1985 In the streets there's no such thing as a cheap move. Only winners and losers
@@XStreet1985 Sevika still had a metal arm while Vi was barehanded lol
0:33 these jump cuts are so f??king delicious. Absolutely genius.
i'm on my fourth rewatch of Arcane, and on this time around I've started paying attention to these little flourishes that Fortiche have added to the script. They appear more in act 2 and 3 and i love them. They feel almost inconsistent until you realise there's lots of them.
YES! I love the way it shows Vi refastening her glove by punching them together.
You know a series is good when they only use the power of "friendship and family" one time and it fits the moment
*Sevika exists*
Vi: I'm about to end this girls whole career
You gotta respect how tough Sevika is, she basically spent most of season 1 eating dirt but she's always back for another round.

@@darthcygnus7692 but the theme is called "Vi, Piltover Enforcer" so I guess they're holding it until she indeed becomes one
Most animated fights between two women: "I'm going to fight you elegantly and gracefully while somehow looking gorgeous"
Fight between Vi and Sevika: "I'm going to beat the ever living shit out of you while getting blackout drunk"
I also like to think it’s a grin of “god, this is fun.”
My other favorite tiny detail is immediately after Vi ripe Sevika’s arm off, the majority of the light in the room then comes from the shimmer leaking everywhere as Vi swings her. That bright purple glow in the mostly dark room, just barely lighting the final moments, are absolute art.
U need to to watch some anime if this is the best animated fight you've ever seen 😂
This is one of the most greatest animated fights in the history of animation
Neat bit of visual storytelling- Sevika gauges the first swing and is able to dodge appropriately since there is distance between them, but mistimes Vi's second hit (a palm strike, look closely) because she isn't used to Vi's fist being covered in a giant gauntlet 10x the size of her hand.
0:15
It was this moment she knew....she fucked up
I absolutely love how you can see Sevika being like "fuck..." when Vi stands back up. Arcane is amazing at telling a story without words
They got every genre of music in this show and it worked. Western barfight music, street hip-hop, club dubstep, punk metal and more. God, I fucking love this show.
2:39 I love that frame stop so much. Models are in the same position for a second and that makes Vi look really scary.
That's not a frame stop. That's the artificial-gravity effect of the gauntlet holding Sevika midair.
Am I the only one who LOVES this? 0:37 I think it is such an awesome detail that Vi hurls her glass at Sevika’s face. It’s so petty, badass, and the perfect touch of childishness. Perfection.

This animation is literally so nice to look at. It makes every fight scene fun and their movements are so smooth, I absolutely love it
Love how the camera follows the movements of their blows ever so slightly. Really lends weight to their swings. This a thing in the whole show but its extra satisfying when vi is fighting.
Sevika's laugh at 1:12 is the mother of my 12 children.
This is the most gorgeous animated fight scene I've watched in years.
I love this fight for 3 reasons
1: Its a grudge match
2: VI losing her right gauntlet mirroring Sivikas arm is brilliant
3: VI litteraly +1'ing Sivikas Barrel punch in their first fight with a fucking pooltable is honestly way to funny

You were right
@@W1LLUMP Damn, I forgot about that comment. Wow, it did age well.
When Vi gets up from the fight and fills Vander's silhouette, symbolically showing that her main arc is complete, she has found her purpose and fully subsumed Vander's role.
Awesome.....cause now season 2 is gonna challenge that arc in the most gut-wrenching way possible 😢
@@mgh7634thats a big thing in general people just stop aging once you dont see them anymore
Vi using her passive was the moment I stopped thinking and just collapsed from my fangasm
2:29 and it never happened it again. The end
1:12 That laugh of Sevika though. Damn
I really like how she threw the table at Sevika, a little reference to her song: Here Comes Vi. "Have you ever really wanted to be, a total rebel flipping tables on the enemy?"

I really found myself liking sevika ngl
Yup, she is a badass, she looks like a typical brute at first glance, but she isn't actually stupid, I hope she becomes playable.
she got the kind of respect/vibes that officer grayson had. two sides of a coin
I honestly hated her, when she was (I thought) about to kill Silco. I thought once a traitor always a traitor. After that scene I realized that she wasn't loyal to the person, but to the cause and gained my respect. Honestly hoping she'd be the next big boss of the undercity!
She gained my respect when she showed true loyalty to Silco. In this business this is nothing to be taken for granted.
Not just loyalty to Silco, but for his cause too. She switched sides only because Silco promised independency.
I love the little details in this scene in the whole fight like in 0:04 on the record thingy you can see like I think Vi fighting seems to be like an Enforcers or Officer then there’s that part where Sevika was sitting down and she let Vi get a drink.
0:33 i love this part sm 2:14 god the music and the visuals with the lights is SO AMAZING
I love when vi gets up and sevika just goes "ugh you're still not dead"
The gutteral animal roar when she throws up the table and punches it really hypes me up
I miss when arcane fights were like that
2:41 you see that Sevika still tried to fight by trying to pull Vi off balance despite her arm being pulled off she continued to keep fighting no matter what.
I like how Vi can come whenever she wants looking for a fight and Sevika will be like "fck why not".
