- Manu Ginobili in his rookie season, helping the San Antonio Spurs win their 2nd NBA championship, against the New Jersey Nets of Jason Kid, Kenyon Martin, Richard Jefferson, Dikembe Mutombo and Kerry Kittles (ah, plus Brian "the White Mamba" Scalabrine).
While his performance in the title game was by far his worst of the series, I thought it would be worth watching, as this is where it all begun. Even if his shot did not fall down on this, Manu displayed his usual passion and competitiveness, the ones that he built a career on.
Enjoy! Again, all credit to ABC and the NBA
minute 8:17 makes me very emotional, seeing ginobili's reaction. It looks like he couldnt believe what he had just acomplished. He looked so focused playing the last minutes ,as the commentator said 'calmly hitting the free throw', and then he realises the game is over and he suddenly understands and just grabs his head in disbelief. Looks like at that time his bond with the rest of his teammates wasnt very strong yet so he just stands alone raising his hands at first. For a foreign young guy, humble as ginobili, winning an NBA title in his second year. He must have been overwhelmed with happiness. This image just made my day, thank you
Bro everything you're saying is great, but let me correct just one thing...that was manu rookie year in the league.
Manu rookie year TP was in 2nd year
great respect to manu. from the Philippines
Pacquiao

Respect kababayan! Manu fan here

Manu was stone cold when closing matches with free throws.
Yes, except for game 6, 2013
@@RipCity267 Yeap, he was struggling in those playoffs.
arleco12 you didn’t see the games, he was playing well, actually he started 5;6;7.
Micah Farver they didn’t lose because of free throws.
@@soccercodes7943 Man, I'm a big Manu fan and I saw the games. He had a good game, but he was struggling a lot. He was a turnover machine. With him playing at 90%, that championship was a lock.
I can't wrap my head around the fact that it's already been fourteen years since I watched this game live.
Ginobili still going strong at 39
bullard123 Make it 40
"The Admiral, fighting the final wave." This really gives me goosebumps
Manu was such a beast as a rookie.
i know I'm 4 years late but let me remind you that genobili was the 3rd last pick of the draft dude literally stole the spotlight for being a 2nd round 57 pick
that reaction by the GOAT was worth the video 06:42
Obi Wan Ginobili
Obi And1 Ginobili
14 yrs later, still surprising and showing amazing play 🔥🔥
Its weird seeing Steve Kerr at Spurs' bench lol.
Naw, it's weird to see him anywhere but the Bulls or Spurs bench.
6:01 it's the coach of the Bucks!
look at those gorgeous hair
Still got some moves at age 40!! Winning Shots, Block James Harden, sick passes , Man !! he still playing like in his prime !!
Another great find by the best organization in sports. Manu is a winner and plays with great passion and emotion. Love this team.
Arthur Taranto we argentines put heart and soul into everything we do in our lives. Ginobili is a proof of that assumption. Sorry if my English is not clear.
Gervasio Miguel S Medina calm down argentines do love their Nazis must be passionate about something 👀
Kevin Laguna What are you talking about? Fuck off with that bullshit you fucking loser.
but there's no sportmanship in boxing. lol.
Inolvidable esa noche.
Oh my gosh.. The memories!!! I love my Spurs and these spurs especially!!!!
Manu wasn't a rookie at that point. He was coming from italy as champion and mvp of everything in the euro league. And winning an historic 2nd place in the 2002 world cup in indeanapolis. The rest is history. GOAT.
Rookie in NBA bitch
The NBA plays the best professional basketball in the world and he was a rookie to this league among the best players.
Nets classy at the end. Heavy underdogs. Not a single scorer on that team.
Manu has that Larry Bird IQ and ice cold clutch gene.
dman mutombo took a tough loss here too , and david robinson !! forgot he was still in the league in 03!! good for the admiral
I was watching this way back in 2003...The first time i saw Manu and Pops acting like crazy
I liked Kevin Willis's toughness. He was among my favorites on this Spurs squad.
The good ole days I love my squad forever
I Love Manu since I was a kid..
Unbelievable!!! I forget that Manu and FIVE 0 played at the same time.
Great video. Can you upload Ginobili's highlights from game 6 2014 finals?
There was no game 6
My favorite Spurs player
Also Love to my Spurs..!!
God I miss those days.
grande manu! felicitaciones
Maestro Manu Superestrella sos!!!
holy crap nowadays this would've been considered a close game when the nets were down 7 with 51 seconds to go but the nets just stopped running plays and gave up...
That's true, Spurs were up 6 on the Heat in 2013 game 6 finals with 30 seconds.
Manu jugó con Robinson y Kerr. Que locura
Gracias Manu!
Manu...!!!!
The Warriors don't have a chance against this Spurs team. Timmy, Tony, Manu prime> Curry, Thomson, Durant,Green,Bogut prime
of course they dont have a chance silly, their coach will be playing for this spurs team if they had met
hereisyourmusic don't forget David Robinson
@ Manu GOATbil... I know what you mean :D. But The Admiral's prime was really in the 90s, though he played 3 years in the 2Ks :D. I just meant like trios that played against each other :D
This is one of their worst championship teams. Prime Timmy, 20 year old Tony that couldn't shoot a lick, Rookie Ginobili, 40 year old Robinson.
The Warriors would smoke this team
Won the championhsip and WORST??? LMAO. Timmy & Robinson would have smoked the warriors in the front. 80s, 90s era were the best. Both the east & west teams were competetive. These days, all soft, just plays outside w/ 3s and builds superteam to surely win a championship LMAO.
Grande manu
San Antonio Spurs Legend Mengke Bateer sighting

Rookie Manu Ginobili 2018
GOAT
ROOKIE? HE WAS CHAMPION AND M.V.P OF EUROLEAUGUE ALREADY.
It means rookie in the NBA
@@MrRockleyend I KNOW, BUT ALSO KNOW THATS NOT THE TITLE. SO I HAVE TO CLEAR.
17 rbs from the admiral damn i had to rewind that haha
Manu my love. Lol
Damn.. hes more impressive as a rookie than Lebron was.. he was getting rebounds, snatching possessions, doing assists, and drawing fouls in the finals as a rookie..
Of course as a ‘rookie’ he was already a seasoned pro...so really a misnomer
I looked this up just because I wanted to know if Manu played with Robinson
Ginobiliiiiiiiiiii
Coach Popovich at first was infuriated at Manu's reluctance to accept his program. Until Popovich realized just how Clutch Manu was. It was at that point that Popovich accepted Manu's approach to the Game.
@Hauger I was the one who told Pop, "Let Manu be Manu."
Rookie in nba. He was known worldwide.
I forgot how close the Nets came here. They were leading most of the game and, with a better 4th quarter could've been going home to Jersey for game 7.
Game 7 would have been in San Antonio. Finals go 2-3-2.
At one point the Spurs had, Robinson, Duncan, Parker and Ginobli in one team, jeeez.
And Steve Kerr
Ginobli MVP!!!
He single handled the NJN
Lol Manu came to Spurs 1999 but Im watching the video anyway, hahaha
Grande Manu... 8:29 world champion?? or NBA champion?
No, señor.
Stephen Jackson was really good at the right time!
I didn’t know Stephen Jackson wear George Floyd’s twin
I swear SAS has done some cultist stuff from '97 to '17 in getting players. I wouldn't count Manu as a rookie, he's already a complete product when he started playing for the Spurs in '02 lmao.
Manu with hair!!!!!!!!
Spurs: 14 points with 1:30 to go in 1st quarter.
Pop: slow down on offense!
I just saw the dissapointment of scalabrine.. Could have been an ez win if only he played not restricted by mafia.
He wouldve had 85 points, 26 rebounds, 20 assist, 15 blocks, 15 steals and wouldve shot his last 3 pointer with his eyes closed and back turned to the net, while standing on his head.
6:01 it's the bucks coach!
goosebumps #GoSpursGo
Now Manu looks like Danny Ferry used to look lol
When he still had hair 😂
GSG!!!!!!
steve kerr is a lucky guy
and a great player too
scotte!!!
Look at the coach of the Hawks at 6:00
WOW. Mutombo was on the Nets?? How the hell did he end up there? LOL
bateer menke got one too
Whos that big chinese looking guy in the navy blue polo tee at 5:38 lol. getting pretty buddy buddy over there. Tony parkers face is like .. just stare straight ahead, dont make a sound.
Batir Menk
who???
I remember him playing for China's national team. Hi was Mongol by race, but born in China
6:41 white mamba knowing woulda been different if he played smh
ginbilli en 2003 era una gillette .
Manu moop the floor with poor RJ
LOL at Americans... win a national league: WORLD CHAMPIONS !!!
Manu could have been a super star and won more championships without being constraint by Pop, sad.
we will never know
Quit saying could have been a superstar he was a superstar you idiot he was definitely Superstar his whole career he was a Super Start he chose to come off the bench grudgingly to help the team he was a starter naturally you clearly have not followed the history
Rookie? The best european player that smashed the dream team was not a rookie.
European ? Are you talking about Parker or Ginobili who's Argentinian?
@@yobench i meant the best of Europe. While he was playing there.
6:42 the GOAT is frustrated
How could they bench the white mamba??? No wonder they'we lost the finals...
taba contento robinson?
white michael jordan...love manu from philippines
The Nets lost because of not using the White Mamba
He used to have hair, used to....
oh, he had hair......
not to offense, lol
"World Champions" lol.
Racism to Manu Ginóbili
he wasn't a rookie in this, he was drated in 1999, not 2002
Yes, he was drafted in '99, but the spurs left him to play overseas for several seasons after they drafted him to develop him. The spurs had little idea that Ginobili would become such a great player. There is a video of Ginobili telling his story of coming to SA; he had already been drafted by the spurs, and when he got to SA, he introduced himself to Tim Duncan by saying that he was with the San Antonio Spurs. Duncan was incredulous because Manu had been playing overseas, not in SA.
Just becuase you were drafted 1 year does not mean you can't sit out or play overseas then come back a rookie like Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic did.
+Andy Kreusel Nobody expected Manu to become as a good as he was except Manu himself.
+Andy Kreusel I remeber watching him break fools ankles, then eurostep pass another like who is this kid.
Tom Jordan maybe not in '99 (even if he was already unbelievably talented), but in '01 already european and argentinian fans knew he was something special.
LeBron who??
Hof
Lots of respect for Manu but could not get over all his flopping it was pathetic.
Most boring Finals in history.
genio
Also Love to my Spurs..!!
