Highly entertaining my friend... between the commentary and the action it was fun to watch such a glorious battle. Thousand times better than any TV show or some crappy Hollyweird movie. Thank you
That was fun to watch. REDFOR's initial strat was their undoing... bottlenecking themselves to repetitive 1v2+ fights at the front of the line, and limiting their Line of Sight to the single point of LOS at the head of their column. That's a tough way to slam into a stonewalling enemy.
This was a great video Moidawg, I think that you should continue doing more of these so players and the broader community can further develop tactics around the tanks within squad.
Large tank battles in this game are my favorite gameplay not just in this game but out of all games period. Huge war machines duking it out is the best, its like the real world version of mech combat / Gundam.
Had a blast playing this, only got 2 tanks but it was fun and exciting to hear the chaos happening across the map and right in front of us there at the end
This is like impossible for the attackers to win because squad doesn't give thermals to tanks, so the defenders are really gonna be on an advantage, especially in such a forest map
I really hope with all the big updates slotted for next year that we see more tools for people to host events like these. Really with multiple angles and a really nice display that can show you all sides of the conflict would be awesome. Yet you're doing great man keep it up!
And they're not, actually. It's all about crews. They just run into an armor wall with sneaked lower part of the tanks, ofc they'll die in a second. Among NATO tank team only the Abrams seems great vehicle, Chally and Leo are the shitty tin can (KV-1\2 and so on have a more stronger rear armor than these 2's in a front) in any area besides the turret. RU side just haven't use they advantage in being /smol/ and /low height/ vehicle
@@madrussky8485 yeah I mean being small and low height helps them when they are dug in not necessarily when they are bum rushing in an armor convoy, but regardless I agree the tanks are definitely not one dimensional unless you use them that way

@@Feshyyyyy I don't think we can chalk it down only to a single thing like this. One factor is the flat, unvegetated landscape that a lot of the combat takes place in, combined with the heavy usage of reconnaissance drones. This means that there is little coverage from typical anti-tank weaponry, like handheld launchers. Additionally, there's rarely any element of surprise, meaning that any form of AT-weps might have adequate time for preparation. Another factor might be that their significance in this type of conflict has been overblown. Remember that these tanks have for decades almost exclusively been used in asymmetrical warfare. Most footage _I've seen_ of insurgents trying to take down the Abrams have been 1 RPG-7 rocket and 2-6 Allahu Akbar's before the insurgents are either shelled in the face or ran for their lives. It's also uncertain how much knowledge these opponents has on the weaknesses of the tank they're attacking, or if they are just shooting and letting God decide whether the rocket penetrates the hull or not (which most likely is a poor strategy). In contrast, the Russians have vast amounts of different AT weaponry + strategy, knowledge and some experience on how to combat modern MBTs. Additionally, but where I admittedly lack knowledge, is that the Ukrainians might not be using their equipment most effectively. I've seen footage of very effective attacks, but I've also seen footage that might indicate the opposite. Like one massive graveyard of Abrams' that allegedly was in part due to an never-ending attempt to save previously damaged/abandoned Abrams' - i.e. succumbing to the sunk-cost fallacy. Lastly, many psychological aspects might be factoring in on ineffective use, like attacks out of desperation instead of usage for efficiency. Also, there are studies showing (yet _completely_ unrelated to warfare) how we put greater value into things simply due to paying a lot for them, contrasted to things bought very cheaply or gotten for free. This is highly speculative, but this could theoretically factor in on how freely such expensive equipment is being used. Ukrainian commanders might be deploying tanks in very risky situations, out of expectations that we'll always supply them with more, instead of using them more sparingly in fear of depletion. That said, I'll repeat that the last two paragraphs are highly speculative thinking-out-loud's, and that I'm becoming more and more sceptical of fuelling this conflict further with donating arms instead of pushing for peace negotiations.

Not going to lie, I'm really enjoying your coverage of this game. I watched all the tournament videos earlier when they were coming out. I'm kind of worried that I've built up this expectation of the game play experience that when I ever played it I'll be completely let down.
first contact NATO had good ambush positions, but the Russians also made the mistake of stopping the convoy. Thunder runs must not stop. What ideally happens is each vehicle rolls through the kill zone so quickly that maybe the first vehicle takes 1 or 2 hits, center of the convoy takes basically nothing cause they're all loading, and convoy rear guard takes little or no hits because they're all scrambling afraid of being over run. End goal is as your lead vehicle went through he designated a priority target or two (or however many you get to take a shot at without stopping) that everyone in the convoy dumped their rounds into and killed outright. meanwhile your lead vehicle may be the most beat up and everyone else has none or superficial damage. You then find a safe place for lead vehicle to pull over and shuffle to the back of the convoy and carry on. Having SLs in the crew commander seat (or just not driving or gunning) will be critical since ideally if the kill zone is long you need to have second or third targets designated while later vehicles are still engaging the first. But you really need everyone to be 100% switched on, which is a tall order in Squad. Especially because if lead vehicle goes down every vehicle needs to be ready to become the new lead vehicle.
The 'mass tank charge' tactic might have worked if it was an open map with reasonably good line of sight. But death balling into the thick of trees might be the worst idea.
They were at a disadvantage at the latter part of the battle. They would have been dead much earlier if the flanking tanks got there faster. But that made it even more dramatic. Great battle.
as a film-maker the way how you control the camera is harmful to eyes tracking, Squad should add an option for smooth orientation, or try sometimes to hold on in a view for 5s at least so that viewers their eyes get satisfied each time in the scene, that works a lot.
I wish the devs would do joint-op factions (Say the British and US Army vs RGF and PLA forces), could have a mixture of weapons and vehicles in each game.
That was a original idea the devs talked about from before the faction-units update. Mixed units (Infantry supported by secondary faction vehicles). Devs didnt seem to be able to work with it or didnt implement it with that update however.
