30:40 This was foreshadowed WAY earlier in the manga. Mikasa's mom was actually giving her this tattoo in the scene when the traffickers tried to kidnap her but they censored it because they didn't want to broadcast a child getting a tattoo and changed it to her mom teaching her an embroidery pattern. @Ultimaniacx4 Then it's a textbook plot device. For foreshadowing to work it's meant ot built upon from the moment the factor is introduced. As a One Piece I'm not afraid to admit there's a lot of asspulls and story progressing plot-threads within One Piece that are falsely claimed by the community to be "foreshadowing".
@@kappachino335 Lol, you're not making any sense. You sound like you're just parroting words you've heard other people say. What do you think foreshadowing is if not a plot device? Is a plot device somehow a bad thing in your mind? Does calling it 'textbook' invalidate it? Plots are built on plot devices. Set up and payoff is an example. One that takes foresight and planning to execute. If it's blatantly referenced and mentioned all the time then it ceases to be a small setup in the back of your mind and becomes a focus that distracts from the main events. The author trusts the audience to see the bandage periodically and think about it for themselves. The early setup is what separates it from an asspull.
@39:40 As for Hizuru being Paradise's ally not being mentioned - neither we, nor Paradisians were aware of this. Hizuru was an ally of Fritz's kingdom prior to creation of walls and wiping the memory of everybody inside them - that's how you can have a friend and not be aware of it. When Marley took over as global hegemon, Hizuru was punished for their loyalties, thus renewing the connection between Hizuru and Paradise: to regain their position or avenge the slights, they need to double down on alliance with Paradis, as they need to ally with the only force capable of taking down Marley. Yelena's saying "Paradise Island has one friend" is just sharing common geopolitical knowledge of the world, a fact Paradisians are ignorant about.
This! It means Hizuru is a friend to Eldians in a world full of nations who see them only as monsters that should perish. I wish one of the guys caught on to this, but hopefully your comment will get seen.
Pretty sure he meant the trade that happened within the 3 years of the time skip, which of course is explained throughout the episode. Or he somehow confused the long ago past with the recent past.
Black guy's name Onyankopon means God in the Akan language Twi of Ghana, west Africa. As a Ghanaian born Dutch person, seeing him in the episode after many seasons with THAT name just sent me.
Wow! Thanks for the info! I didn't know it's actually a real name. Here in Japan there was a famous group called OnyankoClub while "nyanko" is just another nickname for cats so the sounds themselves aren't unfamiliar to us, so I thought maybe they just made up a cute, slightly foreign-sounding but still easy to pronounce name. 😆
@@ohsweetsummerchild5141Seeing that most of the names seems conventionally German, it makes sense that the author would make a meaningful name for Onyankopon
Here's a non-spoiler answer to some of your questions or thoughts: - Zeke has ONE year left, not 3. He had 3 left when he connected with Paradis through Yelena. - The plan to impregnate Historia was conceived one year ago. Eren opposed it. Then something happened and he went rogue on his own to Marley. - The Azumabito are basically Japan (obviously), and they allied themselves with King Fritz during the Titan War (gee, I wonder who Japan allied themselves with during a real-world war) and they ended up disgraced. Lady Kiyomi is trying to regain her nation's glory, but that requires money. And they start trading with Paradis. So yes, there's a bit of "using" going on, but she has her loyalty to Mikasa in the end. - I think I can say without spoiling that the volunteers ARE pro-Eldian. Now, whether you trust the plan or not is your decision. Eren certainly seems to be in favor of the plan, more than the plan from a year earlier. So something changed.
In the first few episodes set in marley, Kiyomi Azumabito appears a couple of times. First, when Udo (one of the young warrior candidates) spills a drink on her and she covers for him. Udo is left confused; why would someone be gracious to him, an eldian? Then, right before Willy Tybur gives his big speech, she walks up to him to reassure him before immediately leaving into the shadows. Now, in retrospect, this episode (10) reveals why she acted the way she did. She empathized with the Eldians and knew to leave before the war broke out because of Hizuru's secret involvement with Paradis Island.
i agree with mason quinn's take on how he didnt particularly enjoy the way information was presented to the audience and it felt very "oh by the way..." even on rewatches this episode is mentally taxing for me to follow. i can differenciate the flashbacks from the present tense scenes and i did keep up, though i had to pause a lot on my first watch, but it was tiring to do so. i remember being relieved when i finished that ep in particular.
Sasha said "meat" before she died, translated to Japanese as "niku". This could also be taken as her possibly saying "Niccolo" or a nickname for him. This double meaning hits even harder when we learn her relationship with Niccolo.
It's written with the Kanji for meat, and Hiragana pronunciation helpers (furigana). If there was a double meaning intended, it would likely be written in Katakana, or at least the furigana would be. You'd also probably not abbreviate Niccolo to 'Niku' in Japanese, as you could just clip it to 'Niko' - you only need to insert the silent-ish 'u' or 'i' sound if the word doesn't fit the Japanese syllable structure and ends with a (non-'n') consonant, or has a consonant combination that's not allowed. It's not completely impossible, but it's very likely an accident and not intended, and I doubt Japanese audiences would notice this supposed ambiguity.
A lot of people bring up this theory but it honestly doesn’t make sense. Partially because of what the other commenters said, but also because the actual language they’re speaking is something made up and it isn’t Japanese. So whatever word means “meat” in their language probably doesn’t sound like Nicco
The Lobster/Deer conversation between Quinn, Oak & Answer was so funny! 😂 Gabi "Don't eh me, we can't leave an important role up to an idiot" Conny "Eh?" Great reactions to that line haha 😄💚💙
It's alright, being confused is par for the course at this point of the show, try not to get frustrated by things not falling into place yet, everything will slowly start to make sense, and you guys haven't missed or misunderstood anything major, you're doing well. I can understand how the time jumps would be super confusing but the characters do look a bit different depending on the time period + there are usually cues in the dialogue.
When I first watched this part, same, I couldn't trust Zeke one bit. But when you guys named the characters you trusted, Armin, Mikasa, Levi, Hange, for me and after that flashback with Eren telling them they were the most precious to him, I added Eren to that list. The laughing when Sasha died, he did the same when Hannes died in season 2 so up until this point it'd take much more than just a laugh and a reckless revenge plan for me personally to distrust Eren.
Nah, Mason is completely valid for this. I thought the same thing when I first watched this episode. It feels like an episode jam packed with content they omitted from previous episodes/seasons; stuff we should have already known but they opted not to adapt for whatever reason, and now we are left playing catchup. Writing wise, it's pretty weak. Especially compared to all of the previous episodes.
Nah, the only thing omitted that's important, was the Mikasa thing and by omitted, I mean the tattoo foreshadowing. It's almost one-to-one to the manga.
Writing wasn't weak.i said to them a few episodes ago that everything they say ,do or looks that are made is done for a reason. Zeke giving them the odm gear was a callback to when he took it in the very first episode when he talked, Mikasa tattoo was a callback to the first season when it was as to why the kidnapping tried to happen.the old woman who told her about her heritage was seen in earlier episodes this season and it was said who she was and it wasn't marleyian. I'm sick the weak Writing or it was filler trope that a lot of reactors and comments have just because it was laced with action.
It's understandable that they're not used to reading subs without missing things. They're new to anime in general. That said, it's not necessarily true that they'd understand it better with English dubs simply because of how complicated the plot gets.

Zeke is Marley's "Golden Boy" of the Eldians, having betrayed his parents and won wars for the country. He's a big deal, and has been a titan for almost 13 years.
Remember waking the wall colosal titans is equal to lauching nukes on all nations of the world, they're not "tactical weapons". The only control there is either "stomp" or "stop"
51:26 It feels that way because we, as the audience, are catching up on the 3 - 4 years since the reveal of the basement at the end of S3. The Azumabitos are allies, but it's a recent development in those 3 - 4 years. In the end, it didn't work out because they had the ulterior motives of using Paradis resources. The ODM gear Zeke shows the Azumabitos is the same one he took from Mike in the first episode of S2. And the railroads they're working on is outside of the walls, probably leading to the shores of Paradis, since all that land is unused. This is just the memories of what happened before Eren goes on his own to Marley. We're shown how they tried to find different ways to deal with the threats of the outside world that wants to kill them, until Eren decided to do his own thing. The weakest part of the reveal it's probably Mikasa's tattoo, but even that was foreshadowed in the manga better than the anime. They could have probably change some things of the script of this episode, to make the reveals easier to keep up with, but that's a kind of the way episodes like this work. It sets the tension for the next ones. In the end, all these reveals are just new information that has happened in recent years that the audience didn't get to see.
Hizuru nation had ties with king fritz ( one who made walls 100+ yrs ago) later on , hizuru got into war send their one of last ruling decedents here , lost war and due to titans outside walls wasnt able to got in again , there was lesser titans in starting years , before Mikasa there were probably 3-4 more generations of her family where they pass alone this wrist symbol
Eren laughed partly because of the memory of her mentioning that she wants to take back the land to raise more cattle, but also it is how Eren copes with sadness and trauma, same as how he reacted in season 2 when Hannes died, he is laughing at how he still cannot do anything, in this case, save his friends and their long lives
Nah don't worry, I too was super confused at this point. Tbh I had to watch explanation videos, read explanations and re-watch season 4 to understand what's happening and even then I wouldn't say I understand 100% but that may be because I'm stupid lol
Great reaction and analysis, guys! Oak, I sympathize with you. I had to watch this episode (and many others) a few times to fully understand everything. It's definitely a bit of a tangle and watching them rapidly begin to unravel it while trying to keep up with each storyline is a bit of a headache. But it's a great show! 🍻
One of the most important plotpoints to consider going forward is Carla talking to baby Eren: 'he's already special because he was born into this world'.
Duno why the anime cut out Mikasas tatoo from season one. It would have been in like the 3rd episode of her mom giving her the tatoo. But for some reason they cut it.
Eren's laugh when he learnt that Sasha was dead is similar to how he laughed at the finale of season 2. When he couldnt transform even though he wanted to take down the titan that ate his mom. So its an emotional outburst of despair and helplessness...like giving up and no matter what you do nothing works so you laugh at yourself for even believing in yourself in that moment...Sasha died in the process of executing a plan that nobody wanted to but Eren....But Eren is doing this to save everyone so he feels despair.
That the top MPs feel free enough to besmirch the queen shows how precarious Historia's position ALWAYS has been, coincidental to the ACTUAL practical realities of her blood status in relation to titan powers, Historia reigns as monarch with the support of Premier Zachary and those most immediately loyal to him.
I think the Oh the way points make sense in this context from the pov of people on paradis. They weren’t beware of the entire world until three years ago. They DID have go thru a lot new information they had no idea exist like we are doing right now. And the detail about mikasa’s tattoo the comments took care of that already so yea it’s a shame the studio left that out. Another thing is, normally anime’s tend to do quick flashbacks a lot. Sometimes too much for me tbh. Like a flashback of this character saying this one sentimental line that we saw literally at the start of the episode or sth. Like I get it I know what you’re talking about get on with it. But AOT ain’t be doing that lol they said you better remember this random bit of info we gave to you three seasons ago when you hadn’t got a clue what it meant back then mwahahaha. Which is why the show is so great on rewatches! First watch was pure shock value after shock value for me. I had to pause a few times per episode at the start the ss4 to catch my brain up to where the story is actually at
I agree with people who say if you prefer English, go with English. I watched the show with subtitles, then rewatched it with my husband in English (he doesn’t like reading subtitles). There’s nothing wrong with the dub. It might sound weird at first just because it’s different, not because it’s bad. It’s not like you’ll be losing pieces of information. Some people think Japanese is superior and invalidate those who prefer the dub 🤷♀️
@ and just because it’s better for you doesn’t mean it’s better for everyone. I like watching everything in the original language, but I don’t judge people with different preferences
@ You’re right in the sense that it requires certain skills. It’s just different than reading in general ‘cause while reading you gotta try to catch what’s going on at the same time (reading, listening, and watching simultaneously). I’m used to it but I understand why some people struggle. Anyway, while there’s a lot of badly dubbed anime out there, most of AOT’s English voice actors did well imo so I don’t mind people watching it dubbed
Great reaction as always 🩷 Also I appreciate Mason Quinn's honesty, yeah this episode was too much with the flashbacks. I too had to watch it twice, and if it helps, keep track of Eren's hairstyle, if it's longer it means they're in the future.
I always enjoy how people in the comment section bend over backwards to defend eren when he is laughing when Sasha dies. Like that’s the only thing people can defend him on bc his other actions are soooo bad in the end lol.
I don't believe the Azumabito have been trading with them, they're just the only friendly nation with Paradis probably bc they held out hope that someone like Mikasa might still be on the island.
Eren laughing at tragedy is his defense mechanism. When Diana Fritz ripped Hans in half he laugh too. Also fan fact about Mikasa. I believe this symbol on her had was shown very early in manga. But creators of anime didnt understand what purpose of this tatoo will be. And tatoos are taboo in japan so they remove it from anime and swap scene about that with Mikasas mother teaching her about crochening.
Oh, they want heartbreak, huh? :S The end scene was meant to give you a hint, since the guards for Zeke are drinking something that's been teased before... Not sure why you struggled with the flashbacks so much? You can clearly see the visual differences between the characters and they're told from the perspective of the various characters to contextualize the current situation and showing more of what went on during the last 3 years before Eren went on his own. Mikasa's tattoo I actually already explained to you all the way back during the cabin scene. She always had the tattoo, she got it by her mother. But in the show they changed it to her embroidering the logo with her mother instead, because tattoos in Japan have a bad reputation and are commonly stereotyped with criminals (Yakuza). When they changed studios for season 4 they reversed this and gave Mikasa the tattoo back. The trade with "Japan" was also very much told through the episode though? They showed their arrival and private talks, which started their relations. The ODM gear that Zeke gave them was the one he took from Miche in the beginning of season 2, this happened likely before Eren's attack since she excused herself before it went down. Obviously they could not have shown all of that chronologically due to the surprise reveals behind the time skip of season 4. I really highly suggest to try to pay more attention, maybe throw some caffeine pills if you're struggling so much, because the key episode that's coming up soon-ish will fly right over your heads if you're already struggling with this.

I don’t understand the hate for choosing that option if that’s what the reactors would prefer
all of your "oh, by the way"s have already been planted in earlier seasons: - mikasa's wrist tattoo was shown in season 1 in her flashback of the day her parents got killed. except it was an embroidery that her mother showed her instead of a tattoo because of censorship in Japan for tv - the odm gear that zeke gave lady kiyomi is the same one that he took from miche in season 2 after the beast titan killed him in his first appearance. - the rare resource that fuels the odm gear, the same resource that the hizuru clan wants to monopolize, is the crystal orbs that was discovered in the underground cave of the reiss family. prior to defeating historia's father and exposing the cave, the production and distribution of the orbs were solely managed by the government. afterwards, the resource was brought to the common people. they even use it to make light bulbs. - you have met lady kiyomi during the first few episodes of s4. at the party where falco, gabi and friends were servers for the nations' leaders, udo spilled wine on her kimono. but while the rest of the world hated eldians, she saved udo. that should already tell you that she is an eldian sympathizer. again before willy tybur made his speech in "declaration of war", she somehow knew of his plan, came backstage to praise his bravery and quickly got out of the zone before the attack began. she must've been in cahoots with Paradis, specifically eren, to know that that attack was coming. this show is very tightly written. if you think some details are there just for convenience's sake, you've probably missed something.

Any person: slightly taller than Levi
Levi: emotional damage
Yeah, this needs to be waaay higher up. Or hopefully their patreon members have already informed them.
Pretty sure he meant the trade that happened within the 3 years of the time skip, which of course is explained throughout the episode. Or he somehow confused the long ago past with the recent past.
Only Ackerman and Oriental race remembers it.
The writing on Sasha's grave is Japanese letters written upside down.. it goes ( to Sasha blouse, rest with feast. forever )

Here's a non-spoiler answer to some of your questions or thoughts:
- Zeke has ONE year left, not 3.
Eren’s outburst at Hange has such a deeper meaning than the surface level..🥺
Yep
It's because Eren knows so much more than everyone else.

Mikasa's tattoo was more prominent in the manga. That's why it feels kinda weird here
Sasha said "meat" before she died, translated to Japanese as "niku". This could also be taken as her possibly saying "Niccolo" or a nickname for him. This double meaning hits even harder when we learn her relationship with Niccolo.
In the Manga the Kanji for "meat" was used
no its not people have to stop with this lol if she had said niku then eren laughing would make no sense
This just isn’t true man wish it was cuz it’s super cute but sadly no. It’s meat, no Niccolo
Levi looks so cute even though he is so short! and I love how they compared Levi's and his squad's height
8:57 I saw someone pointing out this transition simbolize how Eren's plan to make himself a hostage lead to Sasha's death.

They seriously cut the entire "why are you black" reaction 🤨

Levi is like a badger, small but terrifying and will f kill anyone
When I first watched this part, same, I couldn't trust Zeke one bit. But when you guys named the characters you trusted, Armin, Mikasa, Levi, Hange, for me and after that flashback with Eren telling them they were the most precious to him, I added Eren to that list. The laughing when Sasha died, he did the same when Hannes died in season 2 so up until this point it'd take much more than just a laugh and a reckless revenge plan for me personally to distrust Eren.
THANK GOD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS LOBSTERS LOOK LIKE AN INSECT. It looks like an insect or a spider.
its such grim vibe this season
Nah, Mason is completely valid for this. I thought the same thing when I first watched this episode. It feels like an episode jam packed with content they omitted from previous episodes/seasons; stuff we should have already known but they opted not to adapt for whatever reason, and now we are left playing catchup. Writing wise, it's pretty weak. Especially compared to all of the previous episodes.
Yeah this content is better in the manga, Mappa was too rushed to adapt it perfectly.
Couldn't have asked for a better birthday upload! Let's fuckin go! Always have appreciated you boys, keep it up!
It's understandable that they're not used to reading subs without missing things. They're new to anime in general. That said, it's not necessarily true that they'd understand it better with English dubs simply because of how complicated the plot gets.
You guys are so close to one of the greatest reveals and finales in television history. Man I love this damn show!

@@annojance Well yeah but the majority of the fandom are edgy teenage-young adults that have impulsive rage. Mason Quinn is a bonafide middle aged adult that has a heart and doesn’t hate Gabi, but is still able to joke about it, so it’s quite different here
@jagerbradley You're talking about tone, not intent. The emotion behind it is the same; it's just expressed differently.
@@annojance No it isn’t? Mason Quinn here was clearly joking here and the people who hate Gabi literally wish the worst upon her

Zeke is Marley's "Golden Boy" of the Eldians, having betrayed his parents and won wars for the country. He's a big deal, and has been a titan for almost 13 years.
I always forget how short Levi is lol.
Like every week, I can't wait for next week!

Due to censorship because she was a minor getting tattooed.
Black guy really went: "Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Jesus Christ?"
I'm excited to see what happens next!! Great reaction fellas 💙🩵🖤🩶
Mason Quinn calling lobsters a ‘bug’ just sent me
My sister is like Eren in the sense that she laughs in situations where she shouldn't, in her case is out of nervousness 😅
Finally, so excited! Been checking y'alls page all day lol
I had to pause a few times per episode at the start the ss4 to catch my brain up to where the story is actually at
Historia and Mikasa be like: you and I have heavy responsibility to bear 🤰🤰

I agree with people who say if you prefer English, go with English. I watched the show with subtitles, then rewatched it with my husband in English (he doesn’t like reading subtitles). There’s nothing wrong with the dub. It might sound weird at first just because it’s different, not because it’s bad. It’s not like you’ll be losing pieces of information. Some people think Japanese is superior and invalidate those who prefer the dub 🤷♀️
I totally agree with this
Because any show or movie is 99.9% better in its original language. I swear, how did you people even learn to read
@ and just because it’s better for you doesn’t mean it’s better for everyone. I like watching everything in the original language, but I don’t judge people with different preferences
@@skynonym4840 no, but again, it shows how and why some people don't develop certain skills
😂What? Every single action of him can be defend if you watch it with your brain and soul !!!!
18:07 as a Mississippi man: “Oh yeah!” 😂
1 minute!!! Imma put my comment then watch the episode lol
I don't believe the Azumabito have been trading with them, they're just the only friendly nation with Paradis probably bc they held out hope that someone like Mikasa might still be on the island.
0:38 oh my god guys 💀💀💀
Trust No one but [Armin]..... you should not even trust Eren
Season 4 is so goated. Since episode one it is intense and crammed with great character work.
The end scene was meant to give you a hint, since the guards for Zeke are drinking something that's been teased before...
Been waiting all week for the next video!
Please react to a movie called How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. It's a Thai movie, it centered around a young male who, after received news that his grandma got diagnosed with cancer, decided to take care of his grandma while he himself trying to secure his inheritance from his grandma.

Don’t ever be afraid to say you prefer dub. It’s easier to watch and follow and not have to read and watch at the same time. The dub voice actors are amazing as well
The last time they reacted to the dub nearly the entire comments section threatened not to watch their channel again if they continued with it. It was extremely toxic. I could see why they wouldn’t want to return to the dub again if people were that riled up over people watching a damn show in their own native language. Fuck that noise.
@ I will never understand the hate for wanting to watch a show in your native language, especially when the voice acting is just as good and or better than the original
@@LouieJV3I myself prefer the sub because it’s what I watched first, but when I watched the dub with my parents I became a fan of their voices as well. The dub’s also pretty good in its own ways, with some flaws of course, but it can provide greater insight for fans who just want to listen without reading. I don’t understand the hate for choosing that option if that’s what the reactors would prefer
@ I also believe for a reaction channel dub is better suited because the video playing in the background without having to completely focus on it
The dub isn't bad at all. Armin's voice dub and changing the Titan screams that sound like demonic chickens is what holds it back for me.
all of your "oh, by the way"s have already been planted in earlier seasons:
- mikasa's wrist tattoo was shown in season 1 in her flashback of the day her parents got killed. except it was an embroidery that her mother showed her instead of a tattoo because of censorship in Japan for tv
- the odm gear that zeke gave lady kiyomi is the same one that he took from miche in season 2 after the beast titan killed him in his first appearance.
Mikasa was the only one that has Asian look. Now we know that she's a descendant of Hizuru, the Japan of this world.

Great two episodes.
These episodes make you as the viewer question eren and his motives, where his loyalty lies. With eren acting out on his own, asking hange what other options they possibly have, and his position in everything. Is eren truly different after these years have gone by?
Also the MPs were discussing historias pregnancy, regarding the original plan to feed zeke to her, but had to put it on hold due to her becoming pregnant. Someone mustve told her about the plan to push it onto her but came up with an idea to postpone it.
I really want to spoil and say that someone is cooking with his takes. I won't say who, but someone is picking up what the show is putting down.
Not a spoiler: Mason Quinn was right about how the storytelling unfolded in that episode. It's pretty hamfisted in how it was all revealed.
