In 2005-06 i built a primitive style pithouse in the White Cliffs area between Zion NP and Kanab and have lived in it ever since. Took me a whole winter to build. Stays cool in summer and easy to heat in winter with a small wood stove.
Son was sent with another scout for a night of survival practice. 1 AM a huge storm started. The scout leaders came collecting the boys to return to main tent camp. My son and his friend said, No way! We're warm and dry in here (their survival hut they made) . So proud he's capable. 😊
Entre las piedras, se echa tierra. Ademas de tapar huecos, aislando el interior, se crea una base magnifica para la siguiente tanda de piedras. Dará a la construcción mucha mas firmeza. Salud !!
What amazes me is, that when ever i see something like this being done, the ground is always, easy digging, rocks, and, timber are all at hand, and, theres always plenty of rope/ string to tie things together ??
I think he must have had a truck tip a load of nicely sized an shaped rocks just off camera because there isn't a single similar rock visible in the surrounding landscape. These shelters are easily constructed when you have the foresight to have all the materials delivered to the site but just off camera 😂😂😂
@@michaelsorensen7567 Its also possible that there was a suicidal rabbit that just walked up to him ready for him to cook for his evening meal but I don't think it will happen!
Yeah that's my major concern with this. It's not see easy to see the surrounding terrain though, if it's on the side of a hill so water can drain away through the ground then it could be ok.
I've never understood building survival videos when you have enough room to bring sickle, a shovel, wood stove and lord knows what else. JUST BRING A INSULATED TENT. ITS NOT AS HEAVY AND WARMER. OH and congratulations for building a swimming pool if it rains.
@marjoriecarter5549 Yes mud bath. I live in Darwin, Australia. It is a dry and wet season. Doesn't rain for 6 mths. The bush shelters are to block the sun, here not rain. It would work here in dry season .But not monsoon.
Pretty cool and amazing skills! Of course if it really rains you’ll get flooded out and wish you had built it with a better roof on top of the platform instead of dug into the ground where it will fill up with water. But for the purposes of this video and for demonstrating cool construction methods in the wild that’s pretty awesome! Thanks for the bush craft!
Yeah, like did this guy dismantle an important historic ruin or archaeological site to build this? Hope he’s not doing it on public land - could be facing a felony or two.
Out mountain biking i found an ingenious home in the woods. Below a ridge where rocks had cracked and slid about 8 feet leaving a 4 foot deep by 8' by about 20'. It had a tin roof rock walls a working door and wood stove.
Why place the horizontal branches underneath the vertical branches when tying them? On top allows for the branch to hold the weight while underneath the twine does.
Pit houses like this were very common in the past, it would depend on the water table , soil drainage and the quality of the thatch as to how much or little they flooded.
Two major flaws here the way I see it. Sorry but there’s no way in hell that roof is going to keep out the rain. Secondly, what were you planning to sleep on? The rock couch is too small and too hard. Yes, the Bushcraft tricks are impressive, but the shelter itself is lacking. I’ve definitely seen better.
The thing I wondered about, is how he has all of those stones lying around waiting to be used. I built stone bases for stacking wood on, and it took me months to acquire enough for the job.
@pauldesjardins8166 So many vids are contrived. He may have just been in a rocky place. But so many of these have no food, no water, and I survive vids. They're drinkinking beer and eating and laughing all the way to the bank. While filming.
Where did the food come from? His backpack only had that sleeping bag in it. Suggenly there's a stove with chimney..a frying pan..potatoes..onion.. eggs. And spices. Then whatever he made to drink..coffee?? Yeah the sleeping thing too..where? Amazing he did all that in one day. Jeez I'd be so tired I prolly would have slept on the rock couch.
Would of thought he would of just found a bed, kitchen sink and a shower/ bath tub! Hope they were scented candles just incase a beautiful forest nymph wondered by! 🤣🤣 Peace to the World 🙏 🏴 🇬🇧
A lot of work to have a drafty, uncomfortable shelter (?) which has high potential to flood when rains come, and may gather water from shallow ground sources even in dry season. If you like to freeze while sleeping sitting up on cold, wet stone and enduring wind whistling through, this design may be to your liking.
Nice idea. But where did he get the beautifull stones? Looks like he mugged an old agricultural drystone wall! I have never found stones like that on a forest! 😂

Try being homless, outin the same elements with nothing to protect you but ratty clothes and a damp cardboard box for shelter and then tell me how tough you are. Oh, there's also no vehicle to take you home if things get too rough.
Des jours et des jours de travail très dur pour un abri qui ne protège ni du froid ni de la pluie … c’est vraiment pour histoire de faire une vidéo pour faire des clics. Poor guy …
This shelter seems more suited to a semi permanent situation. It would expend precious calories and quite a time investment. Suitable only if there is sufficient edible vegetation & game in the area to justify the investment. Still a clever design
There are some interesting videos out there about these "outback survival" videos and how unrealistic they are. Everything from pre-site selection, to a cadre of support personnel prepping the materials and doing the heavy lifting. So, while he might be able to get this done in a day, it would be impossible without all the off camera crew support.

Whats always funny about these shelters is the builders never add drainage, and the entrances almost always allow water inside...
