My R90/6 I purchased in October of 1976. I ride it on a regular basis, looks and runs like new with 6 digits of mileage on the bike, 5 on the odometer as it passed 99999 long ago. I'll never stop riding this bike and yes I don't do long trips anymore with it, I have two modern BMW's, but this is still my favorite ride. The nicest thing about this bike is you don't need computers, electronics or anything special to maintain it beyond wrenches and a timing light. These are the best. Yes, it has a gas "gauge" when it starts sputtering, twist the petcock to RES, start looking for a gas station, but you will have another 20 plus miles before you run out.

      Sounds like a nice bike.

I can completely understand why you like the bike so much. And yes, I discovered the interesting gas gauge as well.

@@scott.lindroth I bought one of these around 1978 off a guy that owned a garage,I drove off and ran out of juice so I "pushed the machine a couple of km's back to the garage and he said "sorry I should have told you about the reserve position" So I was very happy that there was nothing wrong with the bike. When I eventually sold it this was the first thing I told them about.I drove all over Europe with the bike and never had any problems at all..would love to have one again..

@@brianwallington9744 Haha. Such a great bike. I love it more and more even though it needs TLC.

I've had an R90/6 since 1994, and I still love it! It's as honest as a motorcycle can get, and still incredibly capable.

Can’t beat an airhead! I have a ‘73 model R50/5, one of only 7800 made. Absolutely no electronics, apart from a Boyer electronic ignition which I fitted, twin-leading shoe front brakes etc. I have loved tinkering with it and getting it dialled in mixture and timing-wise and she runs like a sewing machine. I change the oil and filters annually, but only do about 1500~2000 miles per annum. She will easily keep up with modern traffic. I would love an R90s but would never sell the R50. All the best from the UK 👍🏻

I’ve had my R90/6 since 1979. Been down a few years for maint but putting back together now. Had a Vetter fairing too. Purchased a light kit to put back original. Mine is white and congrats on your find.

It’s been a great bike, but yeah, it needs attention. I recently had to put on a new clutch but it’s running great now.

My grandfather (who I’m named after) had one of these for years and years and loved it but it was given to some friend of his when his Alzheimer’s started getting bad about 15 years ago. He passed away years ago and I don’t really have anything of his, so I’ve been trying to track it down for years and figure out how to get it back but I recently got a lead that is looking very promising. I’d love to see this thing in its glory again, looks like an awesome bike.

My R90/6 story just the same I couldn't do much to my newer GS or should I say it didn't need much. I enjoyed getting my Barn find Maine BMW R90/6 back on the road.

      Very cool.
If you ever want to shoot a walkaround video of it, I'd be happy to edit it and put it on our channel. Always like hearing about cool bikes.

Congrats! I get parts from boxer2valve and maxbmw, maintenance items from Bob’s Motorcycles (formerly Bob’s BMW), and electrics from Euro Moto Electric. I’ve been able to find everything I need (and more…).
