Cal the professor comes out! I’ve listened to a lot of Cal Newport interviews, this one is where he pulls out a lot of philosophy and history. As a 38 year old parent myself, it’s obvious he is very protective of the upcoming generation.
Great content! I’m 37, mother of 3 young children (6& bellow,) and I’m def concerned about raising them social media free. It’s also important to mention how long parents are on their phones, in front of their kids. Put it down and live in the moment! No need to take pics of your kids all the time, post online and expect others to validate it. Kids grow so fast. Engage with them eye to eye, instead of worrying how many likes your baby pics will get.
I can't believe you two actually invited Prof.Newport and you guys are incredible interviewers!!! I can see you two really blowing up with such consistently high-quality content. Looking forward to seeing more great videos 👍
thank you Dee! we have been on a bit of a hiatus but this comment really helps us get back into the recording booth. cheers and so glad you liked the conversation!
Living “off grid” used to mean a log cabin in the hills with a log burner and your dog, today it much more means not being on social media - both are very healthy.
So glad you enjoyed it! More interview like these to come every Saturday. Additionally, we just released an extended version with Cal Newport: ruclips.net/video/8H3igRSLEOE/видео.html
Great job guys. Social media is The most addictive thing I've ever encountered. Trying to break the addiction right now. Before smart phones I remember this thing called channel surfing which was very similar. Remember thinking what am I doing? Why am I wasting so much of my time doing this... 2008ish.. I made conscious decision to ditch cable and regain my freedom. Several years later... New crack pipe called a smartphone and this new drug called Fakebook.
Social media cause resentment...beause when you dont practice relaxing without social media...then you go out having a break...you feel bothered that there are so many people in the park, that you require peace with yourself to not be distracted by people, because didnt practice it before...so people on street may feel bothering, which is oposite of why you seek people on social media. Your brain needs a break from it therefore you feel bothered with so much people in the frst or in park when you try to relax and sports.
Real human connections you do not get with social media. People take things granted for what is going outside like attending events. The constant bragging and gossiping can be too much. I can't phantom why people would not an event that would be productive. Instead they would spend countless hours on social media. It is an addiction. I like real human connections. I do not want to live in a virtual world where I am not achieving a purpose. More needs to be done to encourage people not to be addicted to social media and put importance to things what matters the most in life. I feel.far too many people are glued to social media today. It worries me
Great interview! Cal's the MVP.

Excellent interview! This is an increasingly important topic especially for millenials and younger generations who grew up using all this technology.

Parents should practice "digital minimalism" to focus more on kids....so the kids will not be isolated from parents...Kids are mimicking parents.
couldn't have said it better myself!
This channel is an oasis of sanity on the internet.

On social media you dnt have to introduce yourself....just as the robots and computers doesnt have to introduce themselves.
This man common sense videos calm me down but we need a device that will measure it.
