Anna Fowdy well the long time snubbed factor may have helped her plus all the nominations for other categories would have helped but I can't complain about Emma Stones win she was amazing in La La Land
I think she shoulda been at least nominated instead of Meryl Streep. I'm glad that Emma won but to be honest the academy just tried to balance things out because Moonlight won best picture. Emma is great but I think she's better in The Help.

I go to the same highschool that Tarell McCraney goes to so his win will be a symbol that I will carry with me to continue on going my acting career that will one day lead my up onto this stage accepting an award for Best Actress... I'd just like to point out that two black guys have won oscars for a spectacular LGBTQ+ screenplay. Nobody seems to be talking about this. Instead, the'yre just talking about the white woman who presented. So let's stop worrying about the presenter (she'll get her Oscar, don't worry) and congratulate them for their great efforts. And please see Moonlight. It won best picture too, you know.

The crowd did standing ovation because they truly see a special deserving on the screenplay of Moonlight (which is actually an original one). Special deserving: that is the reason and only reason for the standing ovation. Otherwise, they would have done standing ovation for the original screenplay winner whatever it would be.

am I the only one who thinks this is absolute cruelty? she presented the category in which her movie was the most deserving to win, while she herself wasn't even nominated. how did they nominated the film for best picture, but didn't like her performance that was the whole movie? just like snubbing Joaquin phoenix for "her", and Jake Gyllenhaal for "night crawler"...

Agree. Loved that film and think it deserved noms for best picture, best director, and screenplay, not to mention its amazing visuals and haunting score. I even liked Adam´s performance a lot more than her work in Arrival.

I think I read that Silence came in very late in the nomination timeline and critics didn't really have time to see/reflect on the film, which is unfortunate because Silence was brilliant.
The Oscars really are notorious for not appreciating Scorsese's films.

In 1973 Al Pacino boycotted the oscars because he was nominated for supporting actor for the godfather. Amy wasn't even nominated this year, she should've boycotted this too.

They put Moonlight in Adapted because they wanted it ti win best picture so in order to "qualify" its picture win, they needed something aside from an acting win. They transferred it to adapted because they know Moonlight has no match with Manchester By The Sea in original.
Alexandro Tirador well the stories vary so much too. Manchester was an original story maybe inspired by real life but has no non-fictional grounds, Moonlight can be considered an autobiography of Mcraney’s life growing up gay in drug ridden 80’s Miami

Arrival should have won not because moonlight wasn’t good it was but because it was a really difficult adaption that managed to keep such a grounded approach to sci fi while expanding the short story it was based on to be more and more touching on screen than it was even on paper with critical decisions that would draw out maximum connection with the audience ie the perspective element and mainly how they restructure the text so their is more of a twist and emotional impact with determinism being changed to free will (you’ll only understand this if you read and watched the film and novel)
