Just a note, Suzuki have been fantastic with us! I'm sure they would have extended the loan if we had asked for an extension but we both had plans that week so we ideally needed to get them back by Friday due to our own tight deadlines and commitments. Suzuki have been excellent with their communication :)
Thankfully no major injuries Kate, I couldn’t believe it when the driver pulled over onto your side of the road. Nice of the locals to come to your assistance and great that the lady provided the VRM of the offending vehicle. Great to hear Suzuki have been understanding
thats the design of the road - the driving path isn't down the center, it follows both curbs around the chicane. There is enough room all along the roadway for two cars to pass without stopping
Total respect to you both for that return trip....nightmare. I hope your confidence (and your ankle) are still intact. You're both in one piece, which is all that matters. Take care and all the best. 👍
Was wondering if there wasn’t going to be an event on that road trip. Happy to see you didn’t have a serious physical injury. Enjoyed your blog a year late.
Bloody mad! I could see the crash happening as you did and it made me jump. I could see what was gonna happen. Glad you both safe though, what an experience. Well done.
Not commanding the road being over to the side as it is is inviting the car to the space. Not sure how I feel about this one although I'm glad the riders ok and the car after stopping initially shouldn't have just left the scene.
Such a sad end to a brilliant trip to Germany Kate. Really glad your ok and massive massive respect to Mike who was absolutely superb, always seems totally unflusted no matter what the situation. Big respect to you both for the trip the conditions you faced and some really enjoyable viewing. Wishing both you and Mike the very very best in 2023.
The crash was your fault too. In my opinion you should have come a to a full stop and not assuming hes going to give you enough way. I guess you guys had sport tyres on the bikes. Glad you did not hurt yourself
Glad that you’re both ok, and that you got back in one piece after that heroic effort. Uncomfortable and stressful at the time, but it’s what great memories are made of - you’ll never forget that adventure. And it has inspired me to go on another tour - haven’t been on a long tour for about five years. Thank you.
Hey kate and Mike, so sorry your trip ended the way it did but glad you were all okay. Really enjoyed watching your adventures, winter riding definitely sharpens up your skills. Keep up the great work
Well that was a mongrel way to start back. Bad enough about the pillion seat but to get swatted by German, don't mention the war. Hats off to Mike, bloody legend bloke.
Really brave riding in them conditions my days of winter riding are over. I’m only a summer biker now glad you weren’t badly hurt it just goes to show how easy it is to be knocked off a motorcycle
Sad that your adventure had to end that way. But what an amazing trip. Kudos to you and to Mike for enduring those temperatures, they are no fun with out heated gear. It will be something you will remember for the rest of your life.
Thank you both for sharing your trip, gutted for you Kate it ended that way, hope you’ve recovered. Looking forward to the two of you doing another adventure.
So glad you are ok, that was my only thought. Mike you are a machine! Well done👏👏👏 when things go wrong it's a difficult thing to focus and you did totally. Hope that your next trip will be easier Kate. Take care in this weather.
Watched your video Kate, and am glad you are not seriously hurt. The driver was clearly not bothered about a motorcyclist riding in icy conditions. Even if you had stopped safely on the right hand edge of the clear part of the road, I think the car would have nudged you off anyway. There are times as a motorcyclist when you are the mercy of others, no matter how skilled you are. I hope you will put this episode behind you, and continue with your love of motorcycling. Unfortunately , the car driver had no idea of the stress and anxiety you both suffered , especially with time constraints and the long ride home. The fact that Mike was with you must have been very reassuring . Bob
I have a triumph 1050 and I never go out in the wet. very brave of both of you to take on this trip. And you are very funny love the Chinese takeaway at the end I was laughing more as you told us the menu.
When they’re being inconsiderate at slow speeds set your road position to block their progress, it’s aggressive and high risk but it’ll keep you in a straight line. Thought you handled it like a trooper, in those freezing conditions well done you, as for Mike he was outstanding 👍
Wow! What an impressive video! This may be the best one you've made! That was an incredible journey! What a great attitude you maintained throughout! What a Trooper, what a Viking, what a Soldier, what a Motorcycle Rider! You're awesome! Mike too! Good Job Kate!
Wow, some people are just beyond words. Glad you're ok and at least you got a VERY thorough test of the gsxs gt lol. Big thumbs up to all the helpful Germans and Mike for enduring the cold like a champ 👍👍
There are a number of words that come to mind to describe this trip but I am going to go with brave and adventurous! I am so glad that you had such a good time sorry to see your bike go for a lie down. I hope that you have not hurt yourself too much and make a full recovery. The German Christmas Markets are amazing but when I went I flew into Dusseldorf and got the train to Koln. I really enjoyed your vlogs and the challenging riding conditions that you encountered. Mike was absolutely amazing in leading the trip, repatriating you back home on the back of his bike and without any heated gear or falling off. He is a fantastic rider seems to ba an all round top bloke to boot. Looking back at the footage of your crash I wonder if you would have done anything different faced with the same situation again.
You are both officially crazy. I live in Bonn and I well remember those few days when the temperature dropped to -11.5C. It was brutal! I can't believe you were out on bikes on those days, let alone making the relatively boring trip on the Autobahns to Calais (particularly as pillion!). I've given my bike a run out today, and it was a comparatively tropical +1C! Respect to you both.
Watching your 'unintentional rapid dismount', my heart jumped, having recently done the same, on ice, myself! Very slow speed, no damage or injuries. What a complete T**T!! the driver was, forcing you off line, into ice, when it was your right of way?! Glad to see and hear you're OK. Mike, absolute legend, well done lad, good effort. Kate, awesome videos, as always, good effort getting straight back on and riding again. Be safe, ride safe and have fun.
it wasn't her right of way - she was on his path. Kate's path bends around to the right (and into the ice). Had they colided, she'd would have been at fault.
@Rocketz08 id disagree, just rewatched the video, the car clearly moved into her path, around a raised area. Imo, as I'm jot sure of German roads, car driver should have waited. Just my opinion, as I say, I don't know German rules of the road.
Wow, watched last night, was not expecting the crash, scary!!!!! - Great that you caught it all on Camera, and glad you're ok. Sounds like Suzuki have been fantastic, I guess these things are bound to happen with demo bikes, but it's actually good advertising for them as they were able to show how great they were in a crisis.
Kate that was a crazy set of videos. Hopefully you'll release a follow up on what damage was done with that drop. When it was introduced last year we in the states didn't get that color of blue so I wasn't interested but for 2023 it's available and your videos were a great chance to see them on the road. Glad the spill didn't hurt you.
I am glade you both are okay and safe! I to had an accident wrecked my bike . I am okay it did scared the crap out me ! Thank you both for sharing these amazing videos
Just glad you're both safely back. Like others I saw what was going to happen! Kudos to you both for tackling that journey and impressed how good Mike is in a crisis.
What a goon in the Mercedes. Glad you were not too harmed. I could share in the stress of the race to get back in atrocious conditions. Some might say you were foolhardy to make that trip at this time of year but I salute your courage and spirit of adventure, after all it is what motorcycling is meant to be.
Well done both of you!! Hope you're not suffering from the crash too much? It's crazy how quickly you can go from upright to splattered on the floor....
Wow Kate, Mike is an absolute star, how the hell did he ride in them temperatures without heated gear !. Mike you are an absolute trouper mate. Take care and as always ride safe.
Loved this series but gutted it didn't end how you wanted. You're in one piece though that's the main thing. Mike rode you back brilliantly, absolute hero 👏
Really enjoyed this adventure & obvs gutted for you how it ended in Germany. Lucky you had Bernard and those kind witnesses to deal with police and hats off to Mike, what a good guy.
Fabulous set of videos. What an absolute pair of warriors you both are. I once rode in -2 degree temperatures going over the Pyrenees and mumped and moaned for the whole trip. To do it in those temperatures is a great achievement. Huge respect. Shame about the inconsiderate German Merc driver.

I’ve enjoyed your German series it’s been very interesting and a very enjoyable video I need to go now 😊❤
What a legend that Mike is. Total respect !
Perfect advert for the Suzuki 1000GT
So sorry to see you get hurt Kate and hope your ankle gets better soon. Hats off to Mike, what a rider.
The world needs more Mikes, Bernards and kates! Tough gig but you made it home safe which is the main thing!
Legends. Tough riding. 👏

exactly what i saw . I even muttered ' aw fck noooo ' even before Kate went down ...
In my iam training would have stopped and let car go as cars r bigger than me

As a British motorcyclist living in Germany, much respect to you both.great posts✌
Why don't you be honest and tell how badly they were driving and now they tried to trap the poor German dude simply driving his car.
