I had one of these when I was a kid and loved it. Ended up shipping it to my cousin who was in Iraq with the Army. It's no Gameboy but it's a fun diversion for those of us who didn't have much growing up.
Can't really compare a SNES or a Gameboy to a tiger handheld which featured an LCD screen. In the UK the GB was around £140 when it came out. Tiger handhelds were about £10
venger Your original comment was about how it was released in the early 90's what could you expect...well i sort of expected a 16bit lcd handheld like the lynx or normad
Nostalgia overload! I had this and spent a ridiculous amount of time playing it. Even then, we knew these were awful but it was always better than nothing. Best thing I could say about it is it had a great battery life (unlike stuff like the 1st gen gameboy or game gear). Like the vhs tape in "The Ring"....You never threw these away, but passed on the curse to others.
Before the Game Boy was released (and even for a few years after the Game Boy), these Tiger handhelds were a big deal, and lots of kids had them (including myself). Very cheap/affordable, and OK gameplay (for its time). I had Double Dragon, and other kids I knew had stuff like the Castlevania: Simon's Quest one, or the After Burner one (one of my cousins had Heavy Barrel). We'd do temporary trades, so that everyone got a chance to play them (some folks would turn off the sound, and attempt to play them in the middle of class in elementary school, and sometimes the teacher or principal would take them away for a few days, or a week).
I used to play the hell out of these tiger games. I remember we all used to play these on the school bus and trade them around so we could try the different games. The battery life sucked in these things for such a simple little screen. lol
I had a Toy Story Tiger game. I used to bring it to school. Once I took it out in class and another kid took it from me and brought it to the teacher's desk while it was running with sound. When it played the sound effect for dying the whole class burst into laughter.
Never got a Tiger LCD game system, but I got others when I was young and kinda enjoyed them. You must realise handhelds like the Game Boy and Game Gear were very expensive in most places outside the US and Japan. Here in Brazil the only handheld possible for most people were LCD games like this. And, considering all that, these were good enough systems for our younger selves at the time.
I loved these when I was little, my favorite was probably Thunder Blade. I remember my friends and I used to bring these to school, swap them on the school bus, and play them during recess.
My pal had this when I was at school and I Always wanted one. Loved these things as a kid. I remember them being quite playable way back when:S Would loe a couple of TomyTronic 3D reviews although capturing the footage might be a pain
Wow... I remember this game.. I used to have this .. I remember playing it from time to time. I had this and Ninja Gaiden, as well of some others but all I remember are Double Dragon and Ninja Gaiden. Talk about some nostalgia here.
Man, what are you talking about. These games were super cool back then! For the people who didn't get the chance to play them when they came out, you missed out on something really fun.
I remember my mother buying me this for $20 at a gas station or truckstop about 25 years ago. I actually liked it because we were on a very long, 4 day drive and this killed a lot of time...and batteries which made the $20 price tag balloon rather quickly.
This LCD game was the first of many such games I would buy(40+).My favorite Tiger LCD videogame translations were:The Terminator,Swamp Thing,Double Dragon 02,Streets Of Rage,Space Harrier 02,PaperBoy,Beauty And The Beast,Bart Vs.Homersaurus(Talking),Altered Beast.
I had as a kid and i loved didnt have much either as a child but it was cool my other friends had nintendos and of course i had this lol brings back alot of memorys
Oh man, just the word "Aerostar" just flooded me with years and years of portable gaming memories... best minivan evar!!! I even inherited the family Aerostar when I was 21 and pimped it out with rims and a sound system!
These were good back in the day. I can only assume that people who hate on them never had one as a child. In fact I remember when LCD handhelds just had 2 buttons, left and right. We were spoiled by these, until we got Gameboys.
I think I'm a bit older than you as I was in my teens when Gameboys were released. When we were about 8-10 year old we had these. Oh and some Nintendo Game And Watch handhelds which I still have and they still work perfectly.
The actual handheld looks cool. The cover artwork is usually pretty good on these, to draw you in I'm sure, but I never bought one. I mean it looks like a fun game is inside. Oh well, fun review though.
OMG, I had such a bizarre fascination with these things as a kid... something about the artwork and cheap-o price just sucked me in like a, well, a sucker every time! Damn you, Tiger, damn you for tainting my childhood with fond memories of such shitty things!
I loved this game when I was a kid. While most of the Tiger handhelds were pretty lame Double Dragon was pretty good for the pre-Gameboy era. Tiger also made handhelds for Double Dragon II and III.
I had the sequel to this Double Dragon 2 also on the Tiger Handheld and I played it so much that I actually completed and because I didn't have anything better I really enjoyed it.
... If you pause it when Mark goes to the map, there's a MASSIVE amount of pins on the east coast while the rest of the country (west coast included) is pretty sparse. So most of us CGR fans are clustered about the east coast? Weird.
Man, we had this & Ninja Gaiden way back in the 90s..& this is a case where I can really cast the nostalgia aside & say that these fucking BLEW! lol...&I knew it just as much back then as well....Out of the many games that got Tiger handheld releases, I'd think that there'd have to be at least one or two out there that actually felt like you were even SLIGHTLY playing a video game???...
These Tiger portable games are older than early 90s, I can remember them in 1987 and this particular one in 1988, even then these things were garbage and a waste of 20-30 dollars I was glad to get home and play the 8-bit NES after throwing away this junk away.
I actually had a Double Dragon game as a kid, I ended up playing it till it finally wore out. For it's time it was awesome! (also had Double Dragon 3...it was NOT awesome 😝)
I beat this game back in the day, thats right there was an end to this game. Don't remember what happens so i'm sure it's pretty lame. Those tiger games do suck but if you were a kid when they were coming out then the nostalgia level is through the roof. I have been meaning to pick up the Double Dragon game for a while now just never got the chance.
There was a game I played a long time ago. I am not sure if Tiger made it but it was a similar design. It was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was actually not horrible. I mean, it was not great, but it was a lot better than most of these low cost handheld...like things.
Its amazing how primitive these are by todays standards. However, I had the Double Dragon hand held back in the day and I remember playing the thing for hours on end.
I used to have the Power Rangers one. It was very fun when i was a young child. But as i grew older i understood that it was not that great. This does look slightly better.
I actually got this AFTER I got the original gray Gameboy back in Christmas of 1990. I remember watching advertisements of Double Dragon for the Tiger Electronics Handheld, and it was a TOTAL SCAM. ALL the advertisements were a total lie. So I just sold the "Shitheld", to get the Gameboy version of Double Dragon.
Lucky or unlucky to have played this shite back in the day.....a few years before i saw Mario on the NES and gave me a mission in life....still playing that mission on the Wii U with Mario Kart 8...waiting for Zelda and another Activision game...lol
I had a Motral Kombat Tiger game back in the day because the Sega version was too violent for me... I forced myself to enjoy it. The 90's struggle was real.
I had one of these when I was a kid and loved it. Ended up shipping it to my cousin who was in Iraq with the Army. It's no Gameboy but it's a fun diversion for those of us who didn't have much growing up.
Man I had that game back in the day!! Loved it!
I liked these games when I was a lad. You kids posting "It sucks" need to realise these came out in the very early 90s. What the heck do you expect?
I play a snes from the 90's and its worlds beyond this piece of crap. Even the gameboy another handheld, laps it in enjoyability and quality.
Can't really compare a SNES or a Gameboy to a tiger handheld which featured an LCD screen. In the UK the GB was around £140 when it came out. Tiger handhelds were about £10
the atari lynx came out in the early 90's.
And the Lynx was how much? Over £200 in the UK.
venger Your original comment was about how it was released in the early 90's what could you expect...well i sort of expected a 16bit lcd handheld like the lynx or normad
64 bit. 32 bit. 16 bit. 8 bit. 4bit!. 2 bit! 1 Bit! HALF BIT!!! QUATER BIT!!!! 8TH BIT!!!!!! THEEEEE WRIST GAAAAAAAAAAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wrist game is jerking off and its free.
@Peppers515 Describing Nintendo’s Game & Watch, huh?
now of course these things are older than me, but I do remember having one of those as kid. It was a robocop one and it was actually pretty good
Funny enough, watching a review of a Tiger LCD game is *always* more fun than playing one.
Going to find it on eBay now. Thanks. ;)
20 years ago this was the bomb, for kids with nothing, this was enough to pass a whole afternoon,ah the good old days
Yeah. They make for great Christmas gifts for family i don't want to see...
I remember beating the X-Men tiger handheld on a class trip, awesome sense of accomplishment.
Yeah right! Everytime you beat the entire "X-Men" Tiger handheld game, it was a success.
I had one of these when I was like 20 years ago. I thought it was pretty fun back in the day
You've probably never seen a Game Boy back then.
When you're an 12 year old kid, something as bad as a Tiger lcd game will keep you entertained during school
So glad I had a game boy.
... My parents still bought me these things though.
Never got a Tiger LCD game system, but I got others when I was young and kinda enjoyed them. You must realise handhelds like the Game Boy and Game Gear were very expensive in most places outside the US and Japan. Here in Brazil the only handheld possible for most people were LCD games like this. And, considering all that, these were good enough systems for our younger selves at the time.
man I had so many of these as a kid. I know by today's standards these are poor but we loved them back in the 90s. great vid 👍 👍 👍
Double Dragon would be a good name for a Chinese restaurant!
There is one! In country New South Wales, near the border of Victoria.
I loved these when I was little, my favorite was probably Thunder Blade.
I remember my friends and I used to bring these to school, swap them on the school bus, and play them during recess.
This is quite possibly the funniest game review I've ever watched, so many laugh out loud moments!
Oh but the nostalgia of it all i want to buy a piece of my childhood back
I remember these games were playing a lot at my elemtary school around the middle of the 80;s.
"This game needs the Billy Jean theme, DON'T PUNCH ME!!! ..... Love the way he kicks."
ahh tiger electronics, for the families too poor to buy their kids gameboys... this was my shit back in the day
The nostalgia is strong with this one. I played this until my thumbs fell off when I was a kid.
This got me through church as a kid many Sunday mornings. I used to lose on the cave level too....
Man, they need to port this to the ps4. And make it exclusive.
I'd like to see you review the Tiger handheld Thunder Blade. I actually think you might enjoy it.
My pal had this when I was at school and I Always wanted one. Loved these things as a kid. I remember them being quite playable way back when:S Would loe a couple of TomyTronic 3D reviews although capturing the footage might be a pain
Betcha never played "Snakes Revenge" Tiger game....
It not only have voice acting, but that game is more complex than any tiger games i ever saw.
Without the Double Dragon branding, this could almost pass as a Fist of the North Star game
I used to have this !! Loads of fun memories.
I had this game. I found it quite entertaining back then. Looking at it now, I wonder what I was thinking.
Wow... I remember this game.. I used to have this .. I remember playing it from time to time. I had this and Ninja Gaiden, as well of some others but all I remember are Double Dragon and Ninja Gaiden. Talk about some nostalgia here.
I had this as a kid and I took it everywhere before I got a Gameboy. I even had the LCD game watch of this. Good times.
As the AVGN said, for a lot of us as kids, who couldn't afford a Game Boy, it was either this, or nothing.
Man, what are you talking about. These games were super cool back then! For the people who didn't get the chance to play them when they came out, you missed out on something really fun.
I had both of those! These are all I had! Because my parents wouldn't buy me a gameboy! But I was satisfied with these
I remember my mother buying me this for $20 at a gas station or truckstop about 25 years ago. I actually liked it because we were on a very long, 4 day drive and this killed a lot of time...and batteries which made the $20 price tag balloon rather quickly.
Why are there so many repost as of late?
this isn't a reupload, it's crappy handheld week here on Classic Game Room
I had Mega Man 3 for Tiger's quality console. 20 minutes of being occupied with those things, even for a kid, is being super generous.
I thought I was so cool in 1991 when I sported my WWF Superstars Tiger LCD game watch.
Bimmy and Jimmy in a quarter-bit system that managed to coexist with the Game Boy and others, a survivor Tiger.
Playing this on the bus on the way 2 school was like getting beat up before I even got 2 school ... damn Tiger Bullies!
This was a great game, I played it nonstop as a kid!
I had one of these back in the day and I loved it. Then again I was like 7 when these came out. Pre dates the Gameboy.
lool that still works these hand game console brings back child memories their was so much hand games like does even cars racing and many more
I enjoyed tiger basketball from the early 90's, but probably just because i was like 5 years old.
I had this game and I remember hating it back then, but it was all I had for a handheld.
I had as a kid and i loved didnt have much either as a child but it was cool my other friends had nintendos and of course i had this lol brings back alot of memorys
I remember beating this game in my dad's Aerostar van on the way to Dartmouth,MA. Good memories
Oh man, just the word "Aerostar" just flooded me with years and years of portable gaming memories... best minivan evar!!! I even inherited the family Aerostar when I was 21 and pimped it out with rims and a sound system!
Nice!! Yeah,I remeber it those God awful blinds, and the black and white tv in it that never worked.
Oh wow, you must've had a fancy one.
At the time we were living in Cambridge MA,and I remember my dad giving everyone a tour of the damn thing, lol
These were good back in the day. I can only assume that people who hate on them never had one as a child. In fact I remember when LCD handhelds just had 2 buttons, left and right. We were spoiled by these, until we got Gameboys.
Not me. I had Game Boy back then :). My parents bought me one in 1989 when they first came out.
I think I'm a bit older than you as I was in my teens when Gameboys were released. When we were about 8-10 year old we had these. Oh and some Nintendo Game And Watch handhelds which I still have and they still work perfectly.
from the intergalactic space arcade!
the best gaming channel i know
Cool i had this when i was younger, it came here to the UK too.
Do you have the Michael Jordan vs Larry Bird Tiger lcd handheld yet? If not I'll send it your way.
Damn you, Tiger, damn you for tainting my childhood with fond memories of such shitty things!
if you can get a hold of it, try Heavy barrel lcd game, it is actually a decent one believe it or not
I definitely had this game when i was a kid...
Didn't Derek review this game already?
I got my start in gaming on handheld electronic games like these ones!
Man i kinda love how different you rewiev things
I got one of these in 1988 when I was in Kindergarten.

So most of us CGR fans are clustered about the east coast? Weird.
then DOUBLE DRAGON ADVANCE was released.
in that time I love the version of Space Harrier of this Tiger handhelds.
The artwork on the sides of the games were great though
Soooo what are other good lcd games?
Oh my... So many memories.
I had this game when i was a kid..played it or hrs
I would like to know what is the name of the song at the end of this video :) can someone tell me?
These Tiger portable games are older than early 90s, I can remember them in 1987 and this particular one in 1988, even then these things were garbage and a waste of 20-30 dollars I was glad to get home and play the 8-bit NES after throwing away this junk away.
I actually quite liked it when I was a kid
I wish I still had my Tiger handheld
I actually had a Double Dragon game as a kid, I ended up playing it till it finally wore out. For it's time it was awesome! (also had Double Dragon 3...it was NOT awesome 😝)
man, i used to own this. those were the days
Mouse Maze was the only Tiger handheld game I ever played that was any good.
this was one of the 'better' ones
I beat this game back in the day, thats right there was an end to this game. Don't remember what happens so i'm sure it's pretty lame. Those tiger games do suck but if you were a kid when they were coming out then the nostalgia level is through the roof. I had Simon's Quest and a Batman tiger handheld.
Not sure what else.
This was one of my very first handhelds. Played it until the screen gave out!
I owned Double Dragon III on the GameBoy and that Tiger game looks WAY better!
I actually got this AFTER I got the original gray Gameboy back in Christmas of 1990. I remember watching advertisements of Double Dragon for the Tiger Electronics Handheld, and it was a TOTAL SCAM. ALL the advertisements were a total lie. So I just sold the "Shitheld", to get the Gameboy version of Double Dragon.
the cover art for the dvd collection should have some wood grain
Wood grain.. with a simple artwork and CGR Classics pyrographed on the case :)
Oh shit i forgot i had this as a kid! ^_^
Definitely one of the better handhelds from Tiger
I remember those tigers, way before Game Boy was invented. That changed the scene for all these crappy LCD handheld mono-games
This was before the ESRB ratings system came in, all violent video games are M-rated where it had blood and gore on there.
My Brother used to have this Tiger hand held game.
I had Double Dragon game watch.
This was a particuarly funny review..Mark is comic genious
I had this when i was a kid , it was good , for a tiger game.
No, it wasn't good, no matter what you compare it to.
