me and my dad recently got a mavic air 2 for a trip to get some good views and pictures and ive been watching alot of videos. probably one of the better more detailed ones. it was interesting to find out how it lands in different modes it seems to me that its the same for all but idk.

Based on your research, it seems that the 3 flight modes are just “stick responsiveness” and auto landing is a separate and consistent mode. There must be some variables that make up for the slight differences in landing placement. My guess: the optical guidance gets it down to some really close point before touchdown, then quits positioning and only “worries” about being level. Any drift or wind at that point makes it skew a little. And judging by the accuracy you had, their programming is spot-on. Just like a regular aircraft though, there’s little things that we learn from everyone being in new situations. Now to just keep up with it!
I think your assessment is basically correct. I'm guessing the vision/infrared sensors become ineffective several inches about the ground which would explain the tiny bit of drift while the drone is a couple of inches from the ground while landing.
Any reason why OA is not functional in sport mode? Is the due to latency of sensors versus the flying speed ?
Hi B NA, my appologies, I must have missed your comment/question until just now. I am not exactly sure why obstacle avoidance is disabled in Sport mode. I guess it's possible that if I am in Sport mode flying fast then the drone wouldn't be able to slow down for an obstacle anyway, so DJI turns it off. If you find the answer please let me know.
But the air 2 has cine mode not tripod much faster than tripod mode and did you check the speeds of your return to homes as I am under the impression that it automatically puts itself in normal mode for any return to home no matter which position the switch is in and showing on screen
Remind you of course, now seven months later, they’ve made it so that you can sit atop speed in cinema old as low as 1 m/s, which is 2.2 mph much better.
Alot of people dont let sit for little when it takes off if you just go up and let it hang out it gets a better landing

Does normal mode don’t allow u to fly far I couldn’t get my drone to fly far away from me it would say max distanced reached
All three modes - including Normal mode - allow you to fly as far as the drone will receive signals from the controler. Sounds like you just need to go into the DJI Fly app and and adjust the max distance. Let me know if that works for you.

Hey Ririlan, thank you for the kind words. I do fly almost all the time in Sport mode. I do slow down to tripod if I need a cinematic shot but other than that it's full speed! 😎
I bet it os on fpv mode as. well :)
Actually, I don't fly in FPV mode very often.
