  • Thank you for taking the time to watch my video. In this video, I take my Mavic Air 2 out to Johnson Valley. I wanted to test the tracking capabilities of the drone in Sport Mode. I have done several videos and tests of the MA2's tracking abilities. This is the first time I have tracked in Sport Mode. Sport Mode will allow the drone to fly much faster. The only drawback, is that the collision sensors are all turned off. Crashes can occur. The drone actually clipped a bush during one of the tests. The drone's reported top speed is 42.5 mph. I wanted to see if the drone would be able to track at or near it's top speed. I tested this using Trace & Parallel modes.
    Please be aware of your surroundings, and do your best to follow all local, state, and federal laws when flying your drone. I am not an expert, and make plenty of mistakes. These videos are just a reflection of my use and the results that I have gotten using the MA2.
    Thanks so much for watching. If you're looking to purchase any of the gear I use, please help me out and click on any one of the Amazon links below. Thanks

    I know it's an older video, but the focused testing you did over time with active track added a wealth of information for the community. I saw that Bush collision coming as you lost altitude between your home point and where you were filming. Also, you said FCC, LOL! I know... you meant FTD. But flowers by drone is still in its infancy, so all is forgiven. 🤪

    Great vid and specs with the active track. It looks like the desert where I fly south of Las Vegas. I have AZ Screen Recorder and I noticed an out of sync with the sound and video on my recordings. I noticed on your height when you clipped the brush, it showed 150 feet, but when you were up high, it only showed 55 feet. Wondering if that same sync happened to your video.

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      The drone is not measuring your actual attitude. It is only measuring your height from your launch point. That way the drone will know when you've flown up 400 feet from your launch point.

    Hello dear friend, do you know about the issue of stress cracked on the Mavic Air 2? I see many people complaining about that problem lately and many of them only having the drone for about one month or two. If possible please let us know what’s the reason for that issue and if DJI are aware that problem and what we should do if the drone is under warranty. Should DJI refund the money or replace for a brand New one. Best Regards from Cleveland. Jorge Rebelo

    Hope you don’t mind me questioning, but You don’t set the drone looking correctly at the truck when in parallel mode. The angle of the road wasn’t 90’ to the right, it was more of a 45 so the truck drove away in an unexpected way for the software to recognise the forward motion correctly, hence why the drone don’t really move with you at first to keep that ‘side on’ view. Would be nice to see you try it again with the frame set correctly and see the drone fly sideways to the right to keep you in frame 👍🏼 thanks for the great content. 🙏🏽

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  2 года назад

      I've done that several times. It doesn't matter where you put the drone, it won't stay at a 90 degree angle. It's parallel mode, not perpendicular mode. Only the Skydio will stay out there.

  • @pwrtek9138
    @pwrtek9138 3 года назад +1

    Hey are we able to control height setting with the sticks while its in active track mode?

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад

      You can once you have locked on. Some tracking modes are better than others.

  • @Rossco84
    @Rossco84 3 года назад

    In Canada you aren’t allowed to be operating the drone as well as driving the vehicle, whether that’s a car, boat, bike. And the active track I have certainly notices that because the drone angles itself so severely the fast you fly, the downward sensors are no longer pointed at the ground so the drone believed it is higher above the ground than it actually is. So especially in sport mode, because of the severity of the bank angle, you really need to watch your height AGL and manually make the drone climb if you are on rising terrain because the drone will eventually impact the ground if you aren’t watching it.

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching. Trace is supposed to be from behind. Parallel is mostly from the side, but not at a 90 degree angle, more like a 45. It will fall directly behind in parallel if you are going fast.

      I have never flown the mini 2. I'm pretty sure it does not have active track. Check the DJI website. The Mavic 2 & 2s use the image on your phone to lock onto a subject. It does not follow the remote. Your phone screen has to stay on while tracking.

    I thought parallel would mean the drone would track from the side and move sideways or at worse turn the gimbal to face the subject hmm.. impressed by the top speed of tracking though and nice vistas around there.
    Wish you did one with the drone going backwards and filming the front of the vehicle. maybe next time :)

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      I thought parallel would be from the side as well. But, parallel and perpendicular are two different things. The 45 degree angle is about as good as it gets. In my most recent video, I did some spotlight tracking from the front of my truck. Active Track will not stay directly in front of you for more than a couple of seconds.

    Hi thanks for the video, have you tried tracking in POI instead? You get better side profiles but obviously no side sensors so you have to pick your terrain carefully. I’m hopping the new update recognises bikes as vehicles rather than the pedestrian on them and goes faster. If the drone has to climb, it has to go slower to put power into gaining altitude instead of forward speed

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  2 года назад

      It should work in Sport Mode, just with the sensors off. Make sure you are locked onto the subject. A person or vehicle icon should appear at the bottom of the sqaure. If neither appear, you are not locked onto the subject. Also, the MA2 will only track a person up to about 20mph no matter which mode you're in. It will only track at full speed if the vehicle icon appears.

    The drone was consistently losing ground on you even when you were going slow. 🤔

      It was a very windy day. Sometimes the gusts would slow it down.

    Thanks for proving the only reliable way to film a car from a drone is from a FPV freestyle-ish model.

    If you are going to test features at least understand what they are supposed to do so you can make an assessment on whether they are capable. So many reviewers fail to read the instruction manual. If you are testing a feature called parallel wait for the drone to become parallel and then increase acceleration. So many of these lame reviews out there!

      @@uosocal well truthfully, firstly you hadn't reacted anyway to avoid the bushes when the drones was gonna clearly touch them. which could've ended in a crash. Secondly, everyone knows drones definitely should not land on cars since it lands on shiny metal which is bad for the sensors and might be the reason for the crash on the car. Or if it were wind well just don't land of a car if you ask me. Don't be lazy and hand land it. Why risk it 😕?. Well maybe not bad pilote but inexperienced, or just a rich guys who doesn't care if he crashes it, he'll just go and buy another one 🤔.

      Ok. Just so you know. I normally hand catch and launch 99% of the time. I was landing on the hood because of the outside temp. I will also land on my truck when there are a lot of people around, like a park. I left that clip in the video because it was kind of funny. A gust of wind hit the drone just before it touched down. Its actually pretty easy to land on my truck, even in RTH. I didn't raise the drone during the first test to show how close the drone can get to objects, and how dangerous it can be. Im not a rich guy, and have paid for all of my equipment myself. I do have drone insurance WITH DJI. I wasn't worried about the bushes, thats why I chose that location. Thank you for responding. I do appreciate the constructive criticism.

      I am sorry that our back and forth came off bad. My wife has watched the video several times, and has no problem with it. If she had a problem with it, I would take down the video.
