      It's not like we couldn't already tell that they're scared of the kx80. They look so sketchy on it. Especially, Ike, he looks like he has to go poop when trying to burn the tire, lol.

      @@CarsandCameras if you keep the bike complete have the shocks rebuilt by a professional that’s why it’s so bouncy they are blown and get stiffer springs and on 2strokes if the head pipe has any dents or cracks in it that will affect the powerband and I’d definitely pick up the correct air filter for it those little 80s pack a big punch that’s for sure they have a nasty power band be safe and keep ripping practice makes habit keep riding it and before you know you will be able to rip it hard. 🤙🏻

    Careful on the engine braking guys… that’s not a 4 stroke lol.. when the carb slide is at idle and you let the bike still roll and the rpm’s hang like that.. it’s not sending enough fuel mix into the engine for that rpm. Just a lil warning.. pull the clutch in while slowing down.. it’ll definitely cut down on piston wear and heat cuz it runs extremely lean when you engine brake and that also causes heat.

      It wont instantly destroy it. I agree it will wear it down but so little. It will only destroy it if done on a highway at high rpms. They wont produce heat as engine braking shuts off most of the fuel entry and as there is not much to explode barely produces heat. *No hating just sayin* lol

      They are grown men with zero racing experience playing around on a clapped out 80. And having a blast at that! It's ok!

      That's a good point. I think it applies mostly for long distances. If you were to go down a long hill, I don't think it'd be recommended. But yeah, I'd avoid doing it just to increase the longevity of those parts inside.

    When riding 2 strokes, you have to shift more to stay in it. When exiting a corner, there should be no bog, you have to downshift to stay in the power. It takes time to learn to ride these bikes, but once you do, you won't want anything else .😉 stay safe and have fun guys.

      yeah i agree they have alot of riding and learning to do but yes they should 100% be down shifting at turns i do think once they get over there fear of it they will be fine i spent most of my childhood outrunning the baltimore md police on kx cr and yz 80 you guys will destroy those times with more seat time and just watching the video there were definetly sections where you guys could have stayed in it alot longer then what you did get use to letting that back tire come out and start sliding around those turns and you guys will kill that leader board

      Ride the clutch to keep the power valve wide open. A short 2 finger clutch lever is a must on a 2 stroke.

      You're right on small strokes but if you're riding a CR 500 or KX 500 they have lots of bottom end, I'm 49 yrs old and I've been riding and racing 2 strokes since I was 10 in 1985 and you're right once you learn to ride a 2 stroke you'll never want another 4 stroke if you're an adrenaline junkie like me

    This is why I just can’t give up my 2 strokes. One thing is that they sound/feel like you’re moving faster than you really are. That’s why I think you got those numbers too. 2stroke4ever 👊🏼

    My first dirt bike was a Honda XR-80. I was 11-12 yrs old, and I thought I was a badass. My cousin had a KX-80 and we swapped bikes before a trail ride....that two stroke Kawasaki scared the shit outta me as a kid.

    I owned a KX80 from the age of 14 to 16 and it was one of my favorite dirt bike experiences, I had so much fun on that bike because I could toss it about and give it full throttle at will.

    A buddy of mine had a late 80’s KX80. It was insane. It would stand wheelies with a 175 lbs guy sitting on it. Real fast bike.

    Those little 80cc 2 strokes are hard to beat for pure fun factor. My personal favorite was the old Honda CR125 though. Just the right balance of power, weight, and size for just having fun.
    I used to have an old Elsinore 250 that was a rocket ship compared to the CR125. I loved the Elsinore, but I rode the 125 WAY more often. My cousin had a Yamaha 80cc, and I used to ride the snot out of that also. It was really fun because you can just throw it around so easily...

    To clean your needle and seat use a Q-tip in a drill with some valve lapping compound. Use the fine stuff. It will make your seat like brand new. The rest of the car just put in the ultrasonic cleaner and blow it out with brake clean. As a small engine mechanic I have done this for years and it works great.

    You can fix the “bouncy” feeling by changing the front fork “air” and oil weight ….. the rear shock has some “rate” adjustment for feel!!!

    You really need some banked/ berms rutted up so you can hold it wide open out of the turns. That thing is sick!

    My first bike when I was 12 was a KX80, man that thing was insane, at that age too. Later on I swapped to a 100cc in it, crazy little bike.

    Guys, I've never riden KX80. But I know that it's like it's bigger brothers the KX125 And KX250. I have rode the KX125 and it's a hoss, no doubt. These very strong 2 stroke bikes HAVE to be ridden in the power band. Being used to the bike is very important to get good times. Understand that these are the same bikes that are used in the race circuit. So staying in the power band is very important for performance. Being on the track, up and down hills, hitting jumps, it's very crucial that you are in the power band. Watch a couple videos and see the guys gassing hard and staying in the band. I do know from experience that if you just ride, like a 4 stroke, you will be changing the plug all the time from fouling the plug. Thanks guys and keep up the awesome work.     This right here is why I want to get my vintage YZ 465 rebuilt and put back together. But I don't have a shop or space for doing any work to it. So it lives at my friends house in pieces until I have a place to put it. The big two-stroke bikes don't have to pegged and revved out like the small displacement ones to get the power down. :)

      This has inspired me to get my IT 465 out, dusted off, and riding again. It has been a long time since she was retired to the backmof the garage. But she is still there for the reason itnwas an exciting bike, both on road and off.

      @@jolla9963 I bought my YZ off of my younger brother as a project. So it was already taken apart and in boxes when I got it sad to say. So it's missing some stuff which I have no problems searching for. But I literally have no place to work on it and store it at my house. So it's been sitting at a friends untouched since I got it.

    I am reminiscing about riding a YZ100 back in 82'. That thing would stand up in the first 4 gears and then you still had two more to go. It was a rocket ship for a 15yo 150lb kid.

    That engine would be nuts on a Trail 70, but you'd probably have to get some longer rear shocks for it, if you don't want to compress all your lower vertebrae..🤣The Harley is just too much weight and you'd overheat/blow it in short order.😜 Like others have said, pull that clutch when you're coasting to keep it from wearing the rings and bottom end prematurely. Those little high output 2 strokers are pretty sensitive about that.😉 Personally, I would try to salvage one of the other KX frames, and have a pair of little rippers, even if you have to buy some extra parts!👍

      Agreed, if you're not on the gas you're on the clutch and making sure you are in the right gear otherwise that motor is going to go quick. And I also agree but I'm going to take it a step further that not only two of those little rippers but they should take off three of those frames and try and keep them as original as possible wouldn't it be amazing to see three of those in their shop lined up so whenever they all three want to go out and tear up something they can maybe even a race definitely even a race lol. Love jumping them also so learn it will make it much easier on all your other projects because if you can handle a dirt bike all these other projects will be a piece of cake.

    I raced motocross when I was a kid up to my 20's. The 1986 KX80 G1 was a game changer in the day and I was always out front! Such a good bike! I remember everyone thinking it was weird that KX was printed on the top side back of the seat lol.

    I grew up on 2 stroke dirt bikes that's where I got many of my scares on my legs from and arms LOL!! 2 Stroke dirt bikes are awesome.

    Get new carbon reeds for the carb makes the power band even more mental. I had a kmx 125, 31hp, in UK we love the 80cc and 125cc. They are great, the expansion pipe is needed so don't mess with it. Can up jet the carbs etc when u do the uprated reads. Will make it even more of an animal

      @@barryallen6293 No they're not. Boysen Power Reeds are dual-rate fiberglass reeds. I had some in my Yamaha Blaster back in high school. He's talking about V-Force reeds that are made of carbon fiber.

      @@davethemanpicton bad idea 2 strokes need the airbox and there’s no way your kmx125 was 31hp lol that’s nearly as powerful as a proper 125cc mx of today. I’ve had Dtr’s and they’re faster than kmx 125’s and they’re not 30hp

    My Father bought me a nice condition used 1984 KX80 in 1986. It was a real awesome bike! Super powerful, I was 13. This brings back a lot of good memories, hearing & seeing it rip. We called it the raped Ape till we got our 1973 Suzuki TM400! The suspension I noticed was real awesome as yours is I see. Then I was gifted a 1986 KDX 80, that was a real nice one also, more mellow when I wanted to ride that way. Thanks guys!!

    Suspension is bouncy because one your too heavy for it and 2 I bet it is blown out lol.. when you push down on the seat it should come back up softly.. if it snaps or springs back up then yeah it’s clapped out and need suspension work.

    I rode a 1982 KX 80 back in the day. It was air cooled with drum brakes. That powerband was awesome! It will cause people to loop out and land on their butts! Make sure you lean forward. I'm guessing by the color scheme, liquid cooled engine, and front disk brakes that your model is probably from 1985.

    Gotta keep it in the band through the gears!. I used to have a fully tuned with drilled jet and ground exhaust port and skimmed head Kawasaki AR125 and you couldn't set off in first and wind on without having to tank it to keep the front wheel down! ❤️💛💚😂

    Love your videos, great reactions to the bike! Those bouncy shocks and forks definitely need rebuilt and/or tuned. The 80/85cc bikes are pipey for sure, got to work the clutch and gears, next up 250cc two stroke MX'rs. They pull hard in the midrange and hit even harder on the pipe! Just to mention as well, stay in the power when you hit a jump, if you let up on the lip you endo. If you need to lift the nose in the air hit the throttle, if you need to dip the nose tap the rear brake.

    This is awesome. I saved up for my 1991 kx 80, big wheel, non arena exhaust ,ya it was a thing, through odd jobs at 13. It took awhile at $ 1,300 brand new. The "power band" is just the way we rolled... loved hanging out with 4 stroke guys. I think I will get it out and give it a rip.

    Great video! The KX80 is an awesome bike. In 1980 on my 11th birthday I got a YZ80. My best friend got a RM80. We had a blast and the next year he got a KX80. His uncle owned the Kawasaki Suzuki shop so he always got brand new. By the way to shift without a clutch you have to get it shifted just before your highest top end like 125 RPMs. Back off slightly shift get back into it.
    Always be prepared to lean forward to keep that front end from coming up. Charles is right y'all are probably just overweight for that shock. One thing that's beneficial writing a two-stroke is doing a lot of standing up I really ever sat on my seat. I grew up in Arizona flying across the desert. My what you would maybe call a specialty was going as fast as I could inland I've never been so I just stood up scanned land and was always prepared for throttle or break. I can get two free air off a gopher hole if you hit that power band right.

    Wow John, for someone without much dirt bike experience and riding one with blown shocks, your jumping form looked very good! But good call on staying in your comfort zone. The last time I pushed out of my comfort zone on a kx80 I hit a tree and luckily enough only got a scar on my leg to remember it by.

    Had one of these as a kid, living on a farm it was great! Waaaaay too much bike for a kid and the neighbouring villages could hear it for miles. Pure chaos and danger fun, great to see you dudes appreciate the true nature of this beast. It’ll be fine!

    Also a note, mentioned before;
    2 strokes oil themselves when you are on the “gas”!!!! Idling for any time at all can starve your bearings when the engine is hot!!
    Put it in neutral, and roll the throttle up(not full, just open), then let it close, and repeat while “idling”, or sitting! It will smoke when you do this , which proves you are oiling the motor!
    32:1 mix for synthetic, or 20:1 for “Castrol natural” which smells great when it burns!!! Lol

    I have a Chinese pitbike (Honda XR70 clone) with a CR85 motor on it.. but its technically 102cc with the big bore kit thats on it. It has a fully balanced crank, big bore, FMF fatty pipe, Pro Circuit silencer, ported and everything. The pitbike chassis has all billet upgraded parts too. INSANE build especially for the price I bought it for! I got it for a fraction of the price of what the motor sells for on ebay (especially since its a Honda CR). Its wild with the balanced crank because there are ZERO vibrations, whoever built it did it right. I'm looking at a Suzuki JR80 on Craigslist with a CR85 swap on it, but I dont have the cash for it hahahaha.

    Lower your profile while going into turns. Do the following on the inside of your turns. By leaning inward and extending your leg out and forward at the beginning of the turn will help your stability while exiting the turn. Snap the throttle while exiting to maintain some of your powerband. Immediately resume throttle as you start to straighten up. You can practice this maneuver riding in circles. Then, go into a figure eight to get comfortable with turning both ways. You get this down, I'll bet you obliterate your fastest lap time.

    Don’t know if you know this, but with 2 strokes, provided you tune it correctly you actually get more power by running a more oil heavy mixture as the extra oil boosts compression slightly, and having extra oil allows for a slightly leaner mixture. It also slows down your piston, rings, and cylinder wear

      When you add more oil to the mix, you are displacing fuel, therefore creating a lean mixture. Running lean makes more power, but it is a good way to seize an engine. The oil isnt part of your fuel/air mixture, but too much replaces fuel making the engine run lean.
      FYI, having the piston top flooded with oil would lead to hydrolocking the engine, plus the excessive oil can keep the fuel from igniting, and shutting the engine off. Your advice is absolutely insane and you shouldn’t be giving it to anyone.

      @@adamr9215 the oil burns as part of the fuel. It doesn’t just enter the engine and then magically separate and sit there. Also, there have been actual tests done that proved higher levels of oil in the fuel can help with performance. Essentially the testing showed that a 15:1 mixture made 15.7% more power than a 30:1 mixture, and also reduced piston and cylinder wear. It is also worth noting that the oilier mixture did not foul the spark plug, although that would be affected by incorrect tuning

      @@garageofscrap The oil does burn off, but it doesn’t burn like gas and it displaces fuel that should be burning. You can run more oil, but you have to jet it out to allow more fuel to replace what was displaced by oil. You still need the same amount of fuel getting into the engine, no matter how much oil is being mixed in.
      Your source is flawed. There are literally dozens of tests out there that prove the opposite. They are testing their special oil, not all 2 stroke oils. There is a 100-1 mix oil that is one of the best performing oils on the market, but you have to jet down for it, or retune your efi engine. All major 2 stroke manufacturers, that all did extensive testing, all recommend 50-1 mix, not the outdated 32-1 mix. So, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suszuki all day that test is wrong. KTM too, they used to recommend the 100-1 oil second to their own brand mixed at 50-1.
      FYI, in a 2 stroke, the fuel/oil mix goes through the crankcase so that the oil can separate from the fuel and coat the bearings. The heat in the engine helps vaporize the fuel, but the thicker oil not vaporize and will do it’s job lubricating the internals. It doesn’t lube the piston from being in the air/fuel mix and burning, it lubes the piston because the crank flings it into the bottom of the cylinder.

      @@adamr9215 I’m not suggesting to run every oil at 15:1, I’m saying that while a lot of people believe a higher than recommended ratio will provide more power, it’s actually the opposite and you are better off running the recommended ratio, or even more oil than recommended.
      While you may need the same volume of fuel entering the engine, with a carburetted bike the different viscosity’s of different ratio fuel mixes will alter the amount that is sucked through the jet at the same vacuum signal, so a bike tuned correctly for a 30:1 ratio for example would pull a different amount of fuel mix through the same jet if the ratio was 15:1, which would lead to a different amount of fuel in the engine. MatthewMCrepair has a great video explaining both my points about running more oil, and having to adjust jetting for different ratios. His video is actually titled something like more oil = more power

    Yasss so happy to see a Cars & cameras vid on the feed after a long day in the shop, especially this little beast.
    P.S. It seems rich on the idle-1/4 throttle circuit. Lean bog will just feel/sound like it's going to die and Rich bog will sputter/stutter and might clear up with rpm. Lot of potentials for being rich I always start with the carb tuning. The needle clip position (SEA LEVEL) start with 3rd tick down (may vary with main jet and needle taper if not a stock needle) , check/set float level height, compare main & pilot jets to stock, back out air screw 1 1/2 turns as a base starting point (any more than 3 turns out on pilot you need to go down on the pilot jet size or float height may be incorrect , more than 1 turn in then up pilot jet size) then back out idle screw & tune from there (left is leaner, right is richer (opposite of four strokes)). If it can't be tuned out it's time to start checking crankcase seals, intake boots, and reed condition. I typically go a tad rich with 2 stroke tunes incase of a gasket/seal or intake boot failure (quick lean condition). Better a plug than burning up the top end.😎🤙

    Definitely needs a shock rebuild, I’ve seen guys twice Hanks size ride the Kawasaki 85cc and send it over jumps etc. also you need to stop all the engine breaking your doing, you’ll burn out your rings in no time because of a lack of fuel break hard into bends pull the clutch keep your revs up and let fly as you come out the turn on flat otherwise pin it through the burms great vid chaps get that shock done she will feel 100 times safer

      Engine braking doesn’t damage a 2 stroke. That’s a myth that was disproven decades ago. These engines are designed to get a new top end every 10-20 hours or running. It’s very soft piston rings that seal well but don’t last, and if they wear too much they will chatter and destroy the cylinder. Engine braking doesn’t hurt them at all. If anything it helps because it’s removing heat from the engine.

    My twin brother and I got brand new 84 KX80 when we were 12 years old. We were in a farming community. The older guys (14 to 16 year olds) had Honda XR250s. We could kick their butts in every way. I've owned close to 15 different bikes. The KX80 was my favorite.

    I'm sure y'all already know this but you never want to hold a two-stroke at a single RPM for too long it will harm the engine so that constantly modulating the throttle is the best thing to do on a two-stroke

      @@azertyytreza8947 it would get very little oil at low rpm because the oil is in the fuel. These were made for flooring 100% of the time, which is why cars use 4 strokes, and those with 2 strokes have an oil pressure system.

      @@tacticalidiot175 actually it has to do with floating the Piston inside of the motor from overheating cuz there is no oil in the motor it only has its oil in the fuel so if you hold a two-stroke at over 75% throttle for more than 15 to 30 seconds you will start to destroy the piston and rings

      @@tacticalidiot175 this is why you never see anyone just Hammer a two-stroke unless they're an idiot and then more power to them when they have to rebuild their motor and yes I have been known to be one of those idiots I have destroyed a Kawasaki 80cc 2 stroke and a Suzuki dt90 because once I hit Top End I just held the throttle to keep it going did not know that I had to modulate the throttle and not let the engine hold the same RPM for too long

      @@dustinmiller7278 I know it's a completely different type of engine, but during spring and fall cleanups we hold our backpack blowers WOT basically all day. Never had one go or need a rebuild. I've always been curious about that but I'm sure it has to do with the power as well

    Where you're losing speed is in the corners, it's a lot to handle and think of when everything comes at you so fast! You need to be changing down clutch in on the back brake before the corner. Slide the bike in so you can pop the clutch and you the powerband to slide round the corner. 💯🤟🏻 But hats off boy's for your 2nd time riding a 2smoker you sure rang them gears out proper! 👌🏻🔥

    Have to chuckle a bit, but my riding 2 strokes was done in the late 60's & 70's. When I was 14 I used my savings to buy a 71 Suzuki 400 mx, that had scared its first owners (little bit of damage too, lol). Sure wish it had more modern suspension, I did a bunch to make it ride better , but that Thumper 2 stroke was a few handfuls even with bigger sprockets. Even as a 180# rider you couldn't keep it down when it hit powerband!! Know a lot of folks that hurt themselves on thumpers... I did pretty good, averaged top 5 in most of the races I ran, lol.
    Jon, if you're gonna try for air, DON'T back off! You ended up landing front wheel first, great way to face plant over the bars, stay steady or on it, so you land better. Was scared for ya...

    Growing as an '80 kid, 2 strokes 4 life. I was a very small kid and I would ride my buddies '87 KX125 2 stroke. Rode with another friend who rode as a pro motocross racer, Damien Plotts. The good old days, when the powerband kicks in hold on!!!!

    You guys are so trained for no shifting and no 2strokes. I grew up on old motocross 80s, and it is a true skill to use that motor and be fast. Mine didnt even have brakes at all and i learned how to really ride.

    I would recommend a lot of hours on a "fast" bike like this 80cc or a good 125cc before jumping on an ATK Intimidator 700. If that 80cc is "fast" the 490+cc water cooled 2-strokes are ... well ... CRAZY FAST. That torque Ike was missing ... insane thumping torque that will spin the rear tire just off idle going uphill ... and you better have throttle control because what happens next will change where in the MATRIX you re-appear.
    You guys need to check out the bad-a$$ 2-stroke minibike Mustie1 just fixed up. It's basically 2-stroke 3-speed Z50A but branded "Bridgestone" (looks like a Mitsubishi engine, but not sure)

    If you are jumping a dirt bike, you can adjust the bikes level by using the back wheel as a gyroscope. Nose low, gas it and the back wheel will come down; nose high, pull in the clutch and hit the back brake.

    Yeah, I had a CR80 when I was young. Just a sprocket change turns a 2 stroke into an animal. We called it staying on the pipe.

    I had a 250 endro when I was younger,the power band on that thing was awesome!!! Learn your down shifting and up shifting with the tork and ram's slude as needed Leaning into your turns r,s up cross it up a few times you will be hooked!!!

    my first bike was a kd80x. I begged a neighbor to sell to me when I spotted it in the back of their truckbed. He sold it for $20 and it was missing a lot of parts. I rode it with a rear axle made of all-thread, no brakes, no clutch cable, and a key chain ring as a thumb throttle. I never put 2 stroke oil in it but that didnt matter because the seals were so bad it burned gear oil constantly. I had no idea what I was doing at maybe 12 years old but that thing ran for years and I had a blast riding out in the corn fields. Nobody believes me when I tell them about this magical bike that always ran like a champ despite my abuse to it.

    I had a 94 kx80 with an FMF Fatty and jetted up.... The powerband hits so hard! It must be a 50% increase in power. Try hill climbing that thing wide open in 2nd!! It's wild! 🤘

    Those of us of a certain age grew up on two strokes so everything you said isn't a surprise. You can't ride them like a four stroke. Shifting gears often to keep the thing in the power band is all part of the fun. You need to run a good quality 2T oil as well if you want the fun to last.

    I rode a Yamaha YZ80 back in the mid 1970s. Back then, the choices were the Honda XR75, Suzuki TM75 & the Yammie YZ80. All the cool kids wanted the YZ80... :-p

    at 16 years old I used to ride a 20 inch bike all over town, could jump ANYTHING and land and be fine. I tried riding a 20 inch last year. (Im 47 now)..lasted a minute before everything hurt and I felt super awkward. Getting older and losing that muscle memory sucks!! plus I'm like 100 lbs heavier now! First time riding a dirt bike (in my 20s) I jumped it super high (straight up basically) and threw the bike..landed on my knee ..have not tried jumping since... its fun...but man does it take practice! Good thing yall didn't try to "send it" You have more videos to do!! (I wanna see the dragster go)

    This the kind of machine that's so fast you end up spending more time shifting. That's why when you combine it with the cvt like on snowmobiles it's a perfect combo for raw acceleration, although you do pay the price of a slight delay of throttle response compared to a gearbox.

      i hate the delayed throttle response of CVTs. I dunno but CVTs make the engine feel kinda disconnected from the wheels. The throttle response is weird

    You keep it pegged shift with it pegged. Go into turns wide open at the rev limit then shift coming out of the turns.

    Put the 80cc in the Harley Davidson. Around 1980 we put a Chaparral 100cc 2 stroke in my Honda Z50. And Isaac, do you remember the smog air pumps they put on 1970's cars to help with emissions? We made a belt driven super charger out of a smog pump and put it on a Honda Z50 50cc powered go kart. We placed a carb on the inlet side of the air pump, and the output to the engine. Some of your projects bring back some very fun memories.

    You guys bringing me back . RM,YZ KX 80s of the 1980s were screamers. You guy have to learn to be extra quick on upshifts and downshift to keep it in the sweet rpm range.as adults you subconcessly not run them as hard a a 12 year old will.

    If you think the 80cc is Wild, then you should try the Kawazaki 250cc 2 stroke dirt bike!
    And YES you can power shift them!!! you only use clutch in 1st gear and when down shifting...
    I would love to see what a Pro can do on this thing :-)

    John is just about the right size and weight for a KX80 the great thing about these older bikes is you can find everything you need to make one really fly for cheap on ebay. Awesome content men!!!

    This 2 stroke dirt bike brings back great memories for this old Man, Charles! At 67, I still ride. I like to ride fast. The most frightened I've ever been is 2-stroke street bikes. That 2nd power band will paint your underwear. I've had the motorcycle shoot out from under me from a red light and ended laying on the seat until I could reposition.

    The shocks are usually valved for a certain weight. Had a triumph suspension setup for my weight; night and day difference.
    2/3 gear starts are normal for 250/450 bikes. They do tend to have a wider powerband (especially 450/ 4 strokes).
