    I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned that Nog was so important to the history of Starfleet that 800 years later, his name is so well known that they named a starship after him, and did so in one of the most dire periods in Federation history.
    The Federation was hanging on by a thread in 3189, and the names they chose for ships then were meant to invoke hope in the darkest of times.
    Excalibur, a weapon gifted by the Fae that grants its wielder great power with a scabbard that grants immortality.
    Voyager, the ship that travelled across the galaxy alone to return home.
    Armstrong, the first human to leave Earth and step foot on another celestial body.
    Nobel, a man who donated their fortune from war to award peace and scientific discovery.
    And Nog.

    I remember reading a story (non official canon sadly) that while at the academy, Nog took the Kobayishi Maru test three times. First time, he did as well as anyone else which was considered impressive. Second time was not so hot... considering the test is brutal enough that even average is still pretty harsh the second test was a disaster. Told not to do it again but he did. On the third attempt he kinda fried the simulator .. He started to use Ferengi tactics, logic and negotiation practices that created such a complex environment that the simulator overloaded itself. Essentially he haggled the system to death. The simulator and Star Fleet by extension had never thought that far outside the box and the system was designed with this very limited viewpoint. When complex negotiations even for Ferengi were introduced it was too much information.
    Star Fleet has yet to acknowledge this feat, but essentially Nog beat the no win scenario. Kirk worked under the pretense that the simulator equipment itself and the program were also conditions of the test so therefore altering them was fine. He cheated and got away with it. Nog just Ferengied the shit out of it. Who did it better?

    As far as Wesley goes, there are two possibilities I see. Either....
    His rank in Nemesis was decanonized by Picard or...
    As a traveler, he can manipulate and has full travel range in all of time and space. At some point in his travels, he took a break to experience what his mortal life would have been like if he hadn't become a traveler. The Wesley we briefly saw in Nemesis is actually a version thousands of years older than the one we saw at the end of Picard S2. He simply deaged himself and locked away most of his own memories as a traveler to experience the mortal life he missed. He's set his mind/body to "wake up" and resume his position and responsibilities as a traveler about a nanosecond before his eventual "death".

I would be the one handmade by Raam, a grand Nagus. would be wildly greater than his official starfleet issue Academy uniform uniform.
    "Opening bid for One Nog's Starfleet academy uniform, handmade by his father the now deceased Grand Nagus Raam, complete with one then code-compliant communications badge, deactivated and data scrubbed per Starfleet security requirements, is set to two ingots of Gold Pressed Latinum."

But: after being demoted from Lieutenant J.G., he is still the helmsman of the Voyager, still an important member of Janeway's crew and manages to be repromoted to Lieutenant within a year. Thank you for legitimizing Lower Decks! Unfortunately because it's an animated series, sometimes people don't consider it canon and not as "real" as the live-action versions of Star Trek, so it's nice to see characters in the series legitimized as a real part of Star Trek lore and the Star Trek universe

    Honestly I would have liked it for an epilogue of Voyager that we get Harry Kim essentially promoted twice due to his outstanding performance as an ensign and due to the fact he was essentially owed that promotion and the only reason he didn't was due to Voyagers circumstances. He had so much experience at the end of Voyager I feel he would of made a decent Lieutenant. I also don't think he'd have much competition as a LTJG to warrant him staying there long enough for him to gain any new lessons he hadn't already learned as an ensign.

      There aren’t any 2nd lieutenants in starfleet, it’s not a rank title that the naval services use in fiction and in real life.

    • @atzuras
      @atzuras Год назад

      Laforge had 1 silver + 1 black button at the time of TNG 1. Which was more than ensign (1 silver) but less than Lt. ( 2 silver), so it call it 2nd lt. at least in practice if not in theory.
      The same with Sulu, the official lore says it was Lt. Cmd at some point, but he was mainly acting at the Helm and Navigation, never acting as Chief Operations or Senior Staff tor example.
      Let's face it, Star Trek was not planned to be the most in-universe logical and cohesive as it seems. It had to work by being easy to get onboard with it, by putting people in known places and predictible roles, not to reflect real-life progression of a starfleet officer.
      LaForge was moved to engineering because the first choice for Chief Engineering was a failure from TV point of view, not for in-universe reasons, and Laforge was a beloved character doing almost nothing at the bridge.
      ST was very keen creating in-universe reasons and a consistent lore, but that official lore is not always what was apparent at the time of release of the movies and TV shows.
      In the same way, Picard would have been an Admiral and Ricker a Captain much before the end of the TNG movies but Paramount was more powerful than the fleet command.

    • @get2dachoppa249
      @get2dachoppa249 Год назад

      @@atzuras The rank in-between ensign and lieutenant is lieutenant junior grade, and thats what La Forge was during the first season. There is no 2nd lieutenant in the naval services, ie navy, coast guard, or starfleet. 2nd lieutenants are army, marines, and air force. Roddenberry served in the air force during WW2, so he knew this.

    Not sure about Harry Kim's position on this list. Granted he is highly trained and respected - with many achievements. But if the list is from Starfleets pov, Kim should be ranked closer to the bottom. Others who ranked lower were promoted and got commendations for their work, while Harry didn't even get a recognised when Voyager re-established contact with Earth. (Wasn't Ezri Dax a ensign when we first met her or did the symbiont get her a promotion?)

  • @get2dachoppa249
    @get2dachoppa249 Год назад

    The writers did Kims character arc dirty. I can tell you from my actual military experience, there’s not a whole lot of difference between an ensign after a year of service and a jg lieutenant. There was no reason that Janeway could not have promoted him given his job didn’t change. The actual military promotes ensigns after 18 months -2 years of service. Flight training for fixed wing pilots can take almost two years and they always finish as a jg lt.

    Ro: The classic problem with a deep cover operative... to be convincing, they have to have a reason for joining the organization. And sometimes, that reason motivates them to join it for real.
    Wes: My theory is that deleted scenes aren't canon. So, Wes never returned to Starfleet.
    Mayweather: He was the most competent person on the NX-01, and should have been a lieutenant by Season 3.
    Boimler: Yes! Thank you! I can see not having two Boimlers on one ship. But they should have found Brad a lieutenant JG's billet.
    Tilly: As a fellow neurodivergent, it makes me very happy to see her succeed!
    Harry: Harry's non-promotion was arguably the worst thing on Voyager, in part because it was specifically done to humiliate the actor, and in part because the Trek community has been willing participants in it for over two decades. From the contemptuous "poor dumb Harry Kim" to the patronizing "ah, Harry, our forever ensign". And please, don't use that "Voyager was stuck in the Delta Quadrant" excuse to defend this indefensible action, given that Janeway promoted both Tuvok and Paris under the same conditions.
    Nog: Why was DS9 such great Trek? Because it knew how to develop a character. And Nog was second only to Sisko himself in terms of just how much he evolved.
