Yu Yu Hakusho - I Guess I Thought if I Never Said It, It Wouldn't Have to be Real

  • An interesting way how Yusuke dealt with the death of Genkai
    "I guess I thought if I never said it, it wouldn't have to be real"
    He told no one about his teacher's (Genkai) death due to him still being in a state of denial and sadness.
    Has anyone ever dealt with their problems this way?

    While I can't blame yusuke for reacting the way he did I can't blame kuwabara for lashing out either. Honestly I see the team as a family by the end of the series. Yusuke, hiei, kurama, and kuwabara are all brothers and genkai is the Grandma

      AJ Tallent I can't really bring myself to blame anyone for their actions in this show, as all of the characters are treated like real people, even Toguro. This interraction in particular felt very real, and for a moment I even felt some of their words hit me directly, as if I were the one they were addressing. Powerful shit, man.

      On one different anime the voice actress for genkai makes you feel like she's a sweet grandmother on the one other anime she makes you feel like she's an evil space tyrant who doesn't have any care for anyone that voice actress is a legend in the anime business and this scene really resonates with me even more now because she was like their grandmother I know what it's like to lose a grandmother I lost mine when I was in high school felt all my classes that year because I would keep to myself and wouldn't tell the teacher what was going on but then when I did let me do some makeup work to get me back caught up with the class I thought if I just not tell anyone it wouldn't be real so I can kind of understand where yusuke was coming from by bottling it up all I did was her torture myself

      yusuke didnt know how to react cause she died on her own free will and way and he had no idea why....hes in denial and shock...she didnt need to tell him and he was confused...thats what makes this show meaningful...in another show like naruto they have to tell each other everything over and over again using words but people still dont get it...in yyh they dont talk a smuch because they know each other will understand cause the characters are that well written...you dont need dialogue between everyone to get the true emotions and points across to each other character....yusuke didnt need to know...it wasnt gonna change anything...she died on her own...its not his fault...he can deal with it his own way but too bad he will never know...he never does find out why toguro chose his path thats okay as long as he doesnt choose the same path ...we as an audience are told the story by koenma and his assistant but yusuke never finds out....and he doesnt have to to get where toguro was coming from....thats great stroytelling instead of the characters learning what we all learn too...its better to let the audience know the full story and not the characters because we want to see how they react to what they dont know and we do know

    In his anger and grief he finally got out and expressed a great deal of the repressed anger and sense of inferiority he always felt and repressed towards Yusuke and the team. He knows he's not the strongest, smartest, or the most skilled on the team. All he wants is to be respected for his contributions to the team and as a man. It always bothered me that Kuwarabara was never truly formally trained like Yusuke to help develop his potential even further (besides the training with Kurama)

    • @pkphantom
      @pkphantom 6 лет назад +81

      Bruce Brown everything he learned he learned the hard way; on his own, through trial and error. Even at the peak of his power activating the dimension sword, he reached it trying to save Yusuke's life. That's why he's my favorite character in the universe. He was that formidable on his own. Just imagine how monsterous he would've become if someone took the time to train him to use his talents how Genkai trained Yusuke

    • @pforgottonsoul
      @pforgottonsoul 6 лет назад +18

      to be fair Yusuke is the only one who got training to get stronger most got better on their own(not counting when genkai trained the dark tournment crew in the last arc) also it's been kuwabara's style to train himself though wish he did get some help from someone more experienced it's always been a little embarrassing to watch him fight since he always just charges in blindly and more often than not get's his ass kicked because of it, even yusuke uses strategy every once in a while.

    • @jordanhouse8706
      @jordanhouse8706 6 лет назад +22

      I also think its because yusuke needed it more, yusuke was a hot head while kuwabara might have his hot head moments he was able to always re-evaluate his decision as a man, genkai wasn’t only there to help yusuke get physically stronger she was there to help him grow up, kuwabara on the other hand had somewhat of a stable home and good foundation

      A person can be with both Kuwabara and Yusuke, I think. They both have their feelings, and sometimes people's feelings just don't line up neatly. It's one of the things I've grown to appreciate in my dotage, that a lot of friction between people is simply them trying to manage themselves.

      It's explained. Toguro planned/hoped for Yusuke to win and the winners of the tournament get any wish they want granted. And the one thing they collectively were going to want Koema was the only person who could give it to them so he told Koema to take care of Genki's body so that she could be revived as the teams reward.

    • @betadrive3357
      @betadrive3357 6 лет назад +10

      +djparker24 they explained it, but that doesn't necessarily make it narratively fulfilling.
      The story would have been better in every way if Genkai were left to rest in peace. Koenma already explained that she was expecting to die when she came to the island and had accepted her death, even berating Yusuke (through Pu) that he can't let her rest in peace.
      We had so many amazing and emotionally impactful character moments (like this video) because of Genkai's death, and I feel like we missed out on so many more great character moments because Togashi decided to revive Genkai.

      I feel like it makes the option for a truly happy ending though. I mean it's not like DBZ where death isn't a consequence. Even Kuwabara's fake death had impact, and even the temporary death of the kid who lost the word game to Kurama.... Though it was reversed the characters still learned and developed even in the short time of grief/mental anguish. And when you think about it, now that her past has been dealt with, Genkai can eventually die a peaceful and natural death, one that would be an easier pill to swallow.

      -Assisting them in their investigation in Mushiyori City with the first four Psychics.

      -Reminding us she can heal people and play games given Sensui's attack in their apartment and facing against Game Master.
      - Acting as a second line of defense should Yusuke and his crew fail. (Didn't really amount to much but they were ready to throw down if need and as mentioned in the end of Chapter Black, their small contributions still mattered to the case).

    Why they brought genkai back it was one of the worst plot decisions togashi did besides making yusuke a half demon

      To be fair it was done reasonably enough. Yusuke didn’t join the Dark Tournament to get any wish he wanted, he had to or else him and everyone he cares about will die. So once he won his wish was for Genkai to be brought back. Although I agree she should’ve stayed dead as the impact would’ve been a lot better, I still really enjoy Genkais character so I’m not complaining all that much.
