    Update April 2024: A recent patch has reduced Tac/Eng/Sci Team to 0.5s! The same principles apply, however, so don't spam powers too quickly!

    omg, you guys have a youtube channel???? ty for this video! i've noticed the problems with casting times, especially when using a spam bar but haven't quite wrapped my head around those timers yet. appreciate all your work on the website and look forward to watching more of your videos now that i know you actually have a channel lol.

    Yes, Thank you. Finally I know why people say tactical is bad. They were screaming about a 1 second delay in DPS, OMG.
    I do STO research too. Did you know you could jump 8 meters into the air with a certain ground ability? I do it all the time. It's my secret.

    Oh wow, I never knew Engineering Team had a long activation time and that weapons were blocked by activating abilities at all.

    1st time in 14 yeatrs of playing I've seen someone actually explain *why* Tac Team is bad

    Just a reminder that this video is out of date now and that After a recent patch has reduced Tac/Eng/Sci Team to 0.5s! But as they say in the description text box the same principles apply. I still think they should go back and edit the slides they use to reflect correct information as some players might not look for or is not automatically shown the text box the update is in, lets say mobile browsers for instance.

      Unfortunately, we would have to re-upload the whole video. The entire point is that you can replicate the same issue by spamming any powers too quickly.

    Great Vid! I'm wondering if you guys noticed firing mode activation failure, it constantly go directly into a shared cooldown. some ppl say it was a server-side issue, but by any chances, are there any ways to alleviate this problem?

      As far as we can tell, lag and random make it hard to nail down the issue.

      I've considered it, but the core principle is still the same: spamming abilities will lock out your weapons just as bad as Team abilities will. They're just quite a bit more usable now.

    The only time I use tactical team is to counter boarding parties to prevent delay activation in abilities

    So if i have a spam bar, the recommendation would be not to mash it like crazy but in a controlled pulse every like, 3 seconds?

      3 seconds might be a bit long. I make sure to watch my weapons, and if they are in a firing cycle, every 1/2 second or so is fast enough. If I notice my weapons not firing, I hold off for a moment to let them get going again, then go back to a gentle rhythm. Also doesn't do any good to hit spacebar if all the abilities it can trigger are on cooldown. Don't mash it if you don't have to.

      @@stobetter oh okay cool thanks. I kind of do a "rolling press" or something every second or so then check the cooldowns so it looks like that's the right approach.

    What about the shield redistribution effect of tactical team allegedly interrupting weapon cycles?
    Is that real or just a myth based on misunderstanding?
    I've seen people claim the crystalline regenerative shield array that auto-redistributes itself also does this.

      So I did a little testing on this, and it doesn't look like either the Tac Team redistribution or the Crystal Shield redistribution interrupts firing cycles, but it's hard to absolutely rule it out.

      Thanks for looking into it. I always assumed it to be a misunderstanding because I never noticed any delay from it.
      Maybe manually redistributing shields counts as an ability activation and that's where the misconception came from.

      I'm apparently one of those stupid plebs who uses Tac Team all the time, and the redistribution effect has never interrupted or delayed my weapons fire. Then again, neither does Tac Team, because I always activate it while my weapons are firing, but that's neither here nor there.

      I mean, I also always use tac team. I think people saying not to use it because of losing firing cycles were just repeating without understanding.
