    Hey Rosie! I work as a taxi driver in Sweden, and I used to drive a big Crafter that could take people in wheelchairs. We often drive people and their big purchases, for example if someone bought like 10 bags of groceries or a man who bought a huge tv, a washer and dryer. So if you were to buy more wood and wanted it home in one go, you could call a local taxi company and ask if they could fit your bike and your lumber in their cars. You can also ask for an estimate on how much that would cost. I’m sure your neighbor could probably help you in need be, but if you need your lumber and insulation in one go , remember that taxis are a viable option 😁 (Or asking in a local FB groups, a lot of teenagers that drive EPA-tractors have started helping with delivers or driving trash to the recycling center, so maybe there’s one near by)

    • @wildrosie

    Hi Rosie, as a woman and DIYer living alone, I also transport LOTS of building materials with my bike (I don't own a car). I keep transporting tons of wood, and each trip is definitely an adventure, with people looking at me like I'm crazy. 😄I'm super impressed that you do it while living 35 km away from the hardware store! 70 km by bike in freezing temperatures, that's on another level! I'm glad it went well. That trailer looks super useful. Also, the ceiling already looks amazing, incredible job!

    • @wildrosie
      @wildrosie  Год назад +4

      I love this! How do you transport long pieces of wood or oversized materials? Feel free to share any insights that might help me! :D

    • @LiIiCanal
      @LiIiCanal Год назад +3

      @@wildrosie Hey! 😊I transport most ot them on the back of my bike (I have a large luggage rack), I secure them with lots of tensioners and straps so that it's super sturdy. It has worked with wooden boards up to 2 meters long. Of course, I have to be very careful because suddenly my bike is a lot heavier, wider and longer than it should be, haha! For super heavy materials that are impossible to transport on the luggage rack, I have a kind of wooden board with four wheels which can carry up to 200 kg. I either attach it to the back of my bike to pull it (but it's quite hard), or I pull it by hand and take the train/subway back home, since I'm lucky enough to have that option. That board has saved me hundreds of euros of shipping costs! (It's also very convenient for Ikea trips!)
      I think a proper little trailer like yours would be even better, though, I'm seriously considering DIYing one =)

    Thank you Eleglide for sponsoring Rosie, she will be a great ambassador! Congratulations on your new electric bike! this will make a big difference for your commute! Load your lumber diagonally like you showed at the beginning, that way you dont have to cut it so short. And your riding on quit streets anyway, so the overhang does not matter. Just mark it!. Check the load capacity of your trailer, But I'm convinced, you can load a lot more. And take advantage of your electric bike and go a little faster! Dont leave the battery in the cold and always charge it up. And specially in the winter, warm the battery up before you leave, and even plug it in at tyhe store, while you buy your stuff, I'm sure nobody will oppose to that!

    Every hardware store that sells timber in Canada has a saw station where you can cut timber or plywood, etc. It's usually a circular saw set up on a glide system. If your store has that you could really reduce your cutting time, especially if you cut several at a time.

    • @Henning_Rech

    You're a role model and inspiration to anyone looking to strike out alone. And that ebike? What could be more perfect for someone without a driver's licence?! Now you've done a test load maybe you could get and extra pack and do it all in 3 trips!
    The job you're doing on the roof lining is fantastic and it's going to look amazing. Well done Rosie and all you've done - I'm a 76 year old from rural Australia and I've started from scratch several times...but not alone, not where it snows and freezes, and I had a Ute to cart all my materials! I just love the way you figure things out, but best of all, how you always seem to get all those fiddly bits to fit so well, esp given you're working with so much basic equipment.

    Game changer! How serendipitous to get the trailer and bike at just the right time :)
    (Echoing other comments, your neighbours are just waiting to help you :) )
    Also, a future project for you might be to get your moped ("AM") driving license. This is relatively cheap and easy. What is interesting about the AM driving license is that it doesn't just cover mopeds... it allows you to drive a proper tractor, and also cars that have been converted to legally be tractors (search blocket for "a traktorer" to see what these look like. They are really popular with teens and you've probably seen them on the roads already.). Now, I'm imagining that all your neighbours have little old tractors that you could borrow. They are also cheap. But I like the idea of you connecting with neighbours and if you can drive a tractor you can help them with forestry as well as you getting your big supplies...

    What a blessing that E-bike will be! Thank you for taking us on your adventure. Could you buy a second trailer, remove the neck that attaches to the bike, and connect it to the first trailer to give you the potential to haul back full-length wood pieces?
    Also, I’d love to see how you film those aerial shots while you’re riding. Your videos are just beautiful!

    Haha you lovely introvert; instead of asking the store employees to cut the wood for you, you tenaciously did it yourself. .....I would prob do the same lol. Although a sturdier cart would be great at some point.

    That bike and trailer will change the way you live out there, living like you do without a car or van makes what you are doing special, placing your channel apart from others. Once you get used to how the bike handles you will be surprised by how much weight you will be able to carry, when you distribute the load sensibly.

    You could build a much higher wooden frame onto your trailer, so next time you’re getting new timber it could rest on the frame, leaning on it when staged upwards… does that makes sense? 😅 anyways, it was a pleasure watching you go on your little adventure ❤

    • @wildrosie
      @wildrosie  Год назад

      I thought of that too! Might be useful for transporting certain lengths, but so far I'm happy I was able to lay down the timber, less chance of balance being off etc!

    The way things are going, this is the only way of transportation that we will be able to afford soon.
    The time to get the bikes and trailers is now.
    I remember you saying in one place when picking up the other bike in Sthlm, it took you 5 days one way.
    You must have taken a lot of backroads at that time. Because the traffic along the main roads going west, would have been almost impossible to navigate on a bike.
    Nah, that display is for the bike's electrical power system, I saw later.

I understand your reasons, but I know a lot of us that are waiting for your posts every week would just love to contribute to buying you a cuppa. In my personal view, you are giving me the gift of giving. And I know I'm not alone in this :)
