My MIL died this past August. My husband and I were at her retirement apartment, going through her things. I had the door to the hall open so I could put stuff out that was going to the rummage sale. MIL loved tchochkes, and had about a dozen-and-a-half decorative birdhouses. As I was packing them up, I put on Birdhouse In Your Soul. Then RUclips did what RUclips does, and on came this song. XD I closed the door to the hall. Didn't think that the residents -- average age 83 -- needed to hear me blasting When Will You Die?.
I just give the artist, album, and track number in comment sections of videos and articles that need to have this question posed to them. Make them do a little homework before they clutch their pearls.
"Look me in the eye, tell me when you'll die" is hilarious to me, probably just because it implies that this person knows when they'll die somehow-- also the visual of someone leaning over someone else and saying that
imagine you're taking a walk down your street, out for a nice stroll, when a group of like five guys roll this huge pink cardboard truck out of their driveway and down the street, with a cardboard boombox following behind them.
You can see a lady going somewhere with her baby in a stroller at 1:00 and a man walking his dog (the one in the establishing shots, no less) at 1:33. What I would pay to know their thoughts as they stared up at a pink cardboard monster truck rolling down their street...
Love this song. It's so cheerfully rude and throws so many insults around without a care, even while the brass in the background happily toot away. XD I'm trying to decide whether to literally laugh out loud or feel super bad for whoever this song's about.
One time I asked TMBG on tumblr if this song was about Donald Trump. Flans simply reblogged it without a reply, which is the best answer he could have given.

That looks fun, but how the hell do you scale a papercraft up that much? Cardboard is a pain to work with, and cardstock isn't much better, and scaling in the first place costs a ton of money. Still, I can't tell you how kick ass it would be to see some of my models at that scale, you know just have something like a life sized Lugia (a 17ft long dragon bird) lying around. This is such a fun and mean song overall.

November 29th, 2023 🥳🥳🥳
It sounds so friendly when he introduces the band members, but it takes a hard left when he says "all of us are wondering when you're gonna die."

Henry Kissinger just died, and I thought of this song. For some reason.

Nobody writes a love song like They Might Be Giants.
Maybe Flogging Molly, but then again that's like comparing great beer to great ale.
Nevermind! Didn't notice the "love" part in that! Sarcasm detected. Carry on good sir :)

The issue with this being one of my favorite songs of all time is that I can't sing it in public.

The song isn't wishing for someone to die, just pondering a question as to when it will happen. Harmless imo because we all die someday.
