You’re apparently young. I’m a 1950s kid and remember buying cigarettes as a kid for 25 cents for my uncle (the only smoker in my small family). I’m surprised that kids could still buy cigarettes much more recently.
This is a docuseries for Lung Cancer Awareness Month! Sydney, Donnita, and Calvin will all have their separate, individual stories published in the next few months. Thank you so much for watching :)
Lady makes a very powerful point about the previous cultural acceptability of smoking and how so many people have been the victims of the tobacco industry in various ways. 😢
My mom was a heavy chain smoker. So, 17 years around her. Then my father in law was one too. Does all that second-hand exposure increase my risks for lung cancer?
I don’t understand it either, but I guess we should be thankful that we come from a context where it never appealed. Also the shocker for me is non smokers with lung cancer :-(
It’s interesting that for Calvin, lung cancer was actually better than the lung disease that would have killed him within a year. Asking someone if they’d smoked is a heartless question. Don’t blame the victim (IF the person smoked or had smoked). What does it matter now? And many with lung cancer, especially women, never smoked.
thank you for listening to the story! patients are asked to share as little or as much as they feel comfortable with in regards to their background- lifestyles, gene mutations, family history, etc.
Way to go, sharing your stories and spreading awareness for lung cancer!
so so important to share these stories! their individual stories coming soon :)
I remember that I used to be able to go to the store as a kid and buy cigarettes for my mom.

Same. I was six.
Yes, presents for my dad were either a carton of cigarettes or an engraved zippo lighter.
Same & I was under the age of 10
crazy how times have changed!
This should be three separate videos, it doesn’t do justice to their stories
Agree.
Agree too!

the sad truth :(

it possibly could! always ask for testing if you're concerned or having health issues
Yep-stigma is so messed up.
:(
I have never understood the fascination or desire to smoke, it is so very destructive, stinks to the high heavens & serves no benefit to anyone.
I don’t understand it either, but I guess we should be thankful that we come from a context where it never appealed. Also the shocker for me is non smokers with lung cancer :-(
no one deserves to battle this awful disease :(
