    To save more time, in the reading portion I would read the questions before I read the article so I automatically know what I’m looking for. That way I don’t have to go back and read through the article again.

      You could also just try looking only for the 1 or 2 questions that are about the WHOLE passage. They're often the first question after the text. You can also try repeating a two-word summary of each of the answer choices in that question to yourself before you go back and read the passage. (shout out to my student Dylan for coming up with this method)

    How long did overall raising your score by 200+ points take you? How many hours did you spend per week? Any tips on how to balance school, extracurriculars, and studying for the SAT?

    • @JillianGoldberg
      @JillianGoldberg  4 года назад +103

      I took my first SAT in October, took a small break and then started studying for my second one during winter break (late Dec.) and then took my final SAT on March 3rd! So roughly 2-3 months. I think I mostly tried to study on the weekends - I would try to study a little on Friday night and then do around 4ish hours on Sat and 4ish on Sunday, because during the week I was busy with extracurriculars, school, and work! The best tip I have is to try to be really productive with your time so even if you don't have a ton of time to study, you make the best use of your time. A good way I would do it is section by section, so like I mentioned in the video, I would do an entire math section (for example), then check over that one and see what I did wrong, and then take a small break and repeat with the same subject or a different subject. That way, you study for 30-40 minute increments while also making sure you are productive. Hope this helps!

    I scored a 1590 and got into Stanford, but you do have slightly more subscribers than me, and Berkeley is the best UC.
    How I scored a 1590 was essentially learning all of the grammar rules through an Erica Meltzer book, reading The Economist every day until my reading comprehension peaked, and doing math drills with Nielson Phu's College Panda Math book until I could finish the entire book without missing a single question in a row.
    What helped me get into Stanford is the fact that I had strong stats, stellar essays, and my extracurricular was me starting a company at the age of 15.
    Good luck at Berkeley!

      As for how long it took me to improve, I just studied all the material over a 2 week period, took a practice test, and then repeated it until I could consistently score a 1570+ (my goal score). This was 4 practice tests, so roughly 2 months.
      If you ever consider paying for help, don't. Self studying is the best learning method, pirate books using LibGen, don't let anyone milk you or your parents for money just because you are wanting a high score.

    Got a 1270 on my junior year PSAT, 1410 on my SAT only from studying on khan academy, and then took it again during a very stressful time with little studying and got a 1350. gonna take it one last time and focus on mainly improving my reading score and also taking time to *read the problems carefully* throughout the test. i'm the type of person who makes careless mistakes because i rush or don't pay attention, rather than because i don't understand the content. Khan academy has been extremely helpful for me tho and im hoping for a 1500 on the oct 1 test.
    edited: my life actually went to shit and got incredibly stressful and overall really really bad so I took the SAT without studying the month prior. i got a 740 on the reading and 700 on math. this was the first time I've ever done better on reading than math. I got a 1440, but unfortunately the school I'm hoping for doesn't superscore, which would have been a 1460. all in all, the reading sections are doable as long as you are present in what you are doing and just trying.

But then if you need MORE practice tests or find that you don’t like the style of explanations in the Collegeboard books, I would say from personal experience (SAT prep + AP Test prep), I trust the Princeton Review almost just as much as collegeboard. Hope this helps and good luck!

    I resonated so much with what you had to say about a reputed test prep company being largely unhelpful in your prep of the SAT. I too went to a very reputed company but found it not worth the money and time, at all.
    If anyone is seeking to enroll at similar test prep company, but is worried about the fees, my advice to you is : Don't enroll.
    Instead, make use of Khan academy and other online free resources. I promise you it will help so much, and as per my experience, much much more than a test prep company that will make your pockets empty.

Like for me I didn’t do well on the sat I got like a 1340 but I got a 34 on the act. there were other factors since the sat was in Covid so I had to wake up at like 4 am and drive 3 hours after which I fell asleep in the math with calculator section(after answering all the questions) but for the act it was like 10 minutes away and I woke up at like 6:45, but the act just felt better to me.
