  • Sharpening your Pitt® Charcoal Pencils can be tricky because of the natural texture of charcoal, but when you use our double-hole metal sharpener (FC185710) it’s easy to get a nice, sharp point on your charcoal pencils.

      U should sharpen them like this the first time but later u should use a cutter (someting sharp like a knife)

      Yeh mine keep snapping. I think it’s because I have a nasty cheap plastic sharpener that cuts too deep into the wood and charcoal.

    For those of you having an issue with the pencils breaking, the Faber-Castell sharpener has a hole labelled "soft" which is mentioned in the video and is like a miracle sharpener for soft pencils. I love it!

    I can't get ANY point on these things. They always break off. Even when you finally get a pointy end after wasting 3/4 of the pencil the tips break off when you lay it down on the table.

    This is a great tutorial if you´re a beginner or amateur and you want to experiment with them.
    If you want the best results as a pro with these amazing pencils there´s just one word for you: Cutter.

    I found that the only way is to be gentle with it while sharpening. During the process,do it slowly and don't rush.

    I have also issues about sharpening charcoal pencils especially Faber Castell Pitt charcoal. It always end up breaking. I just want to know if its depends on sharpeners or the way you sharpen the charcoal?

    • @fabercastellusa
      @fabercastellusa  5 лет назад +3

      Hi James! Yes, the sharpener and how you sharpen matters with our Pitt Charcoal pencils. In the video we recommend our metal double hole sharpener FC185710. The blades are sharp and made in Germany, so the quality of the item is excellent. With our Charcoal pencils we also use very high quality wood, which can make this process tricky. The video shows the sharpening of the charcoal pencils, but you want to be gentle when you start seeing charcoal come out of the sharpener. This means you are getting the charcoal sharpened, not just the wood casing. When you see charcoal, make your twists lighter and check that you do not over-sharpen and break the tip.

      Tips for easy charcoal sharpenning:
      1.Put it on a Freezer for more than 30 minutes
      2.Use Mechanical sharpener
      If you are going to sharpen it again, bring it back to freezer.
      But the easiest way is using a sharp blade or razor.
